Mystery inc. is a pretty easy choice really. The old series were cheap hannah-barbara shit which had a some endearing and 'comfy' qualities but it's mostly nostalgia. I'm saying this as someone who loved scooby-doo as a kid

My biggest gripe is that when things really do start to go tits up and the rock music kicks in, the zombies are still depicted as goofballs rather than anywhere near as creepy as they were earlier in the film.

Sadly no, and it gets worse. The one thing I hate about Mystery inc is how much of a controlling/ borderline abusive bitch they make Velma. Like if they kept the snark and maybe the personality of the other Velmas from other incarnations the relationship would actually be kinda sweet and not obnoxiously painful.
