>Each department carves out their own fiefdom, constantly fighting each other for more power in the company.
>IT and R&D reign like total monarchs in the building I'm in. Nothing can be done without the approval of at least one, and they hate each other's guts.
>IT veterans wrote the language that codes all their products and lord it over everyone
>Joining them means making enemies of R&D and QA
>Currently QA has been charged with cleaning up this mess, and I'm working in QA directly under a recent IT defector to get it done
>Because it is a defector, IT does everything in their power to slow the process down
>QA feels pressure from both IT and R&D to both finish and hold the project.
>IT wants it stalled so they maintain their position while R&D want it done so they can get to work proper
>Manufacturing meanwhile is in the next building over complaining that they lost power twice.
>No one listens but QA.

>your resume will read like a strongly implied criminal record, and there is no way out
You don't even get very /fit/ doing this shit unless you've been at it for years, either. I feel your pain labourbro, but service ain't always gravy. Problems that shouldn't exist (but do) because the company shouldn't have fucked up like that (but did) that you then have to deal with (but can't) are not an uncommon experience - working in service has taught me that most companies are held together by exactly enough red tape as it takes to get to the next legally dubious mistake and/or idea.
well technically Im on the support staff now.
>>94561454
Worked at my hometown's waterpark for one summer, I can attest to shit hours (fuck 50 hour work weeks)
The labor itself was piss easy though. Dick around sweeping up random trash one hour, wipe off tables the next, mop shit off the bathroom floor one hour, go empty all the trash cans the next. The only hard part was that the trash compactor was on the opposite end of the park from the area I was assigned.
The heat surprisingly wasn't so bad, free sunscreen and water jugs in the prep area helped. And at least once every two weeks they'd let me leave early either because of rain or because we just weren't busy enough.

>>94567827
Wal*Mart has a high turnover rate for a reason. my friend worked there for four and a half months before he left, and he had some stories to tell.
>First of all, you're dealing with the public and Wal*Mart doesn't have a good reputation for having smart customers, prepare for dumb shit
>Second, management see's you as a body, not an investment. So prepare for bad shit to happen to you, even if you didn't do anything to deserve it.
One time, upper management told lower management to fire some people, just because there WASN'T any firings/infractions that were taking place in their department.
>The third most important thing, they will not work with your schedule, even if you told them of your school/college schedule.
My friend went to college and he plainly told Wal*Mart of the days he had to go there(Tuesdays and Thursday nights). For two months or so, Wal*Mart understood that and worked with his schedule, then they decided to say "Fuck it, let's just ruin his studies for fun." He really tried to make it work, but once his grades went down, he quit. Didn't even give them a two week notice and just quit that week.
Now he works at a Kawasaki plant and makes 14 dollars an hour, with PTO. Lucky bastard.
>>94567957
Anything is better than Hel*Mart. But yeah, local grocery stores are pretty ok. I work in one and it's not that bad. management understands that treating your employees in a good manner get's good results.

I don't know what field you're in, but from my experience in chicago, it's this:
>HR keeps pushing 'diversity'
>send teams statistically improbably number of indian/asian/black applicants
>basically discriminating against whites
>teams call them out on their racism, usually to no effect
"Fine, we just won't hire anyone"
It's important to note it's not personal, but you represent HR making decisions that affect the team because HR doesn't care how well the team performs so long as they can brag about diversity
>eventually hire minority
either
>fine to work with
>technically works, but there are communication problems
fun fact: in Illinois, it's illegal to force your workforce to speak English. When my old boss found that out, he started typing up his status reports in German to annoy management. Chinese and Indian teams basically formed cliques to support themselves, and people would have to ask them to repeat themselves for the meeting.
>they're an idiot, and can't be fired because 'muh diversity' from HR
>tl;dr, you're going to be just as good as another candidate, but much harder to fire
or maybe people are racist.

For most people under 30 in America that's a lot of money. There's a reason tons Millennials still live with their parents. >God forbid they take orders from a woman
>hit on women, despite being married, her being married, age difference, being her manager, whatever
>take advantage of minority status
>complain whites shut them out
>refuse to let whites join their social circle
>chase managerial status without bothering to learn how to be a manager
about the same level were Chinese women
If you hire a Chinese woman, you will never EVER find out her honest opinion when you're a dude managing a project. She'll find the nearest female HR rep to complain about your managing style, despite telling you to your face that everything's fine.
Chinese dudes had troubles explaining themselves, and were also eager to please, but they were on the level of beta white males, and eventually got it right.

All my days, and I have encountered ONE male HR dude. He was pretty cool, if a bit beta.
>>94568995
Oh yeah, here's another thing about Hindis (>>94569027)
Hire a white dude? He might bring in a handful of people over the years that he's known, and they'll typically be pretty capable. If they're not, everyone's pretty mature about it.
A Hindi will be giving you applications for his brother, his father, his brother in law, his childhood friend, his uncles, his cousins, his second cousins, his first cousins once removed, his neighbors, etc., and they'll come up with any excuse to keep that guy on the workforce, even when it's clear he's an idiot, and the first dude is basically doing two jobs.

26 and still looking for a first job here. Not making any social connections was probably my biggest mistake.
Anyone who is still in college make some friends. Being a loner doesn't really work well in real life unless you want to live in the woods.
>>94569072
Well I should have clarified: owning property in or near a major city is impossible for anyone not making six figures. You could always move out into the middle of nowhere and buy a house for cheap, but there's not much economic opportunity outside the big cities. And the cities are expensive as fuck to live in. It's possible to get by on less than 20k/y in a city, but you probably aren't gonna be living a middle class life.

>Gotta navigate back the same way with the cord
>As i get to it i realize that the electronics table is so packed that there wont be room for the typeriter on top of it
>Pull up a small piece of furniture and put the machine on top of it
>Manage to connect the power cord to an extension cord
>Realize i have placed the machine and the cord so now there is a thigh high trip wire over the passage
>Decide to ignore it, thinking that folks can see me, the lady and the machine blocking the hallway
>Somebody still walks down passage, manages to go over the cord and squeeze past me, machine and granny
>No idea how the machine works
>Manage to get it operational and working

I work in a application development group now and I'm not joking, only 3 out of 15 people there are white males. The rest are Indian or Asian women or Indian men. It's wild.
The group seems fairly well run but my biggest compliment is when they call me though shitty mics and I can hardly understand them. Also the entire rest of the company is on Windows 10 but we are still developing on 7. it's going to get real hairy soon.

I fucking feel you buddy.
It was hell being stationed in Germany for 2 years and never once getting to travel because they could never give me more than 2 days off in a row due to low manning.
or if you are on the noon to midnight shift on the 31st of the month and switch to the midnight to noon shift on the 1st of the month having to work a 24 hr shift. sometimes by yourself. id rather be deployed to the dessert where we have proper manning.
