This isn't the point of the show thought, it is mostly supposed to show how others react to technology which is so powerful it even drawfs the devil. There are a shit ton of things which matter to Rick, there are a shit ton of things which matter to Morty and to the rest of the family. Nothing matters isn't really a common theme in this show at all, hypocracy is far more common.

From around the second part of season 2 till now Rick and Morty's themes have been surface level nihilism and nothing much beyond it. It has more emphasis on the most boring and teen-marketed side of philosophy without bringing anything new to the table, then it has on adventures or speculative fiction. I'm ok with a show having a central theme, but the point of nihilism is to overcome it and so far no one has shown any signs of doing that.

its a writer's show, which means its made by the writing and for the writing, much like bojack horseman on that regard. the writers are deperate to show how smart and clever they are but they are not clever enough to actually show it through the themes of the narrative, instead they'll have the characters do faux philisophical monologues where they talk about how nothing makes sense and spell out all their emotinal and psychological issues to the audience and then thet'll cap it with a fart joke or some other inane punchline just to assure everyone that they dont take themselves that seriously, except they totally do.
its this unbearable culture of meta humor where the characters have to look at the camera and do a wink wink nudge nudge thats seeping on modern storytelling.
