1. Produce easy-to-consume content on the side, like jokey fanart for things you like, that people will be more likely to find you through.

2. Support other artists in your circle and they'll feel inclined to support you in return. Just don't be pushy and try to "force" friendships.

3. Be very, very lucky and hope people notice you.

>>
>>94557645
Hey Morbi, have you decided to stop being a dick to your fanbase?
>>
>>94557645
I'm going to recommend against the fanart thing for a few reasons.

1. It requires a certain social media presence. The artist needs to be able to see the fanart, reblog the fanart, his followers need to see it and have access to the blog of the guy who drew the fanart and also easy access to the comic made by the guy who drew the same fanart. Tumblr makes this sort of easy but a lot of people aren't on tumblr or have left.

2. If somebody does get through all that mess, they still only got there because somebody was a fan of the same comic that they liked, and not because they had any interest in this comic of the guy who drew the fanart. So then you have to keep drawing the fanart to keep them interested. Which becomes a chore itself. So it's very unlikely they will end up being fans of the comic drawn by the guy who drew the fanart.

3. I think it sets up unhealthy expectations. "If I draw fanart for this famous guy, he'll reblog me, and all his fans will see it, and then they'll see my comic and they'll start following my comic, and they'll draw fanart of my comic, and I'll be famous too!" Then this is followed by the inevitable "Why aren't I famous? Why don't I get fanart? Why don't I have followers? How come he never reblogged me? Did he even notice?"

The fanart approach never worked for me and my comic. Maybe that's just me though. Others might get better results.

I think the absolutely only reason anybody should ever draw fanart is for pure unadulterated fandom.

Which reminds me, I was totally going to draw some fanart, so thanks for that.

Nobody knows about the Veil except the dragon hunting sect Friederich seems to work with, and The Specter plus those that work for him/her (Poda, Chicadino).

It's most likely nobody in the royal family is aware of it, or that one of the mothers of magic is still alive and running it, so if he has to frame someone, the ex personal guard that was found "planning" regicide is the most obvious choice.
>>
>>94558525
More like how friggin small all of the main characters in the comic are.
>>
>>94550811
>Friederich defeated off screen without giving a fight
I guess i can let this pass since he was literally teleports-behind-you'd while distracted, but i kinda expected more from a war veteran that doesn't need magic to fight even in unfavorable scenarios.
>>
>>94558897
I'm not sure that the whole dragon sect knows about the Veil.

>>

There's also a lot of stuff you can't capture in a comic that you can do in a illustrated novel, or at least you could do it, but it would dramatically increase the length of the work and slow down the pacing.

I'm optimistic that new format will be just as good as the comic format. If it isn't, then at least Morbi is doing something that he enjoys.
>>
>>94563760
I've thought about doing things like that myself. Mostly because I'm a much better writer than an artist. I'm hoping he pulls it off and it becomes a more popular medium. Not really expecting it to though.
>>
>>94565214
>There's also a lot of stuff you can't capture in a comic that you can do in a illustrated novel
Considering the broadness of the definition of comics, not really. The only differentiation is that an illustrated novel doesn't have image-to-image flow most of the time.

You'll notice those books tend to also not be illustrated novels. There's no fight scenes drawn out by Charles Dickens in Oliver Twist or doodles of cat nuns holding guns and drinking booze in The Grapes of Wrath.

Seriously, the difference between a comic and an illustrated novel can be as thin as "the narration is sometimes held within inset boxes, and there's more than one picture." He's not writing an actual novel here.

As a degenerate, I'd probably latch onto anything with an anthro girl. It doesn't matter how anthro they are, what anthro they are, or what body type they are (even if I prefer novel bodies): if they're anthro, me and a lot of other degenerates will hear about it and pass them down the grapevine.

The best bet design-wise would probably be some kind of thicc, though. You can't beat trends that never go away.

>>94566497
The one with the anthro romantic female lead was called Res Nullius. The art is of very poor quality, my first attempt at a comic, so I'm not going to blame it's lack of success on anything else but my lack of skill.

The one that is comparatively successful by my own standards is called Study Partners. It's furry and it's porn so it's never posted here, and this might be the first time I've mentioned it on /co/. The latter was the one I storytimed on /trash/ and while people seemed to like it, but I guess I'm still not ready for primetime.

Dammit now I feel like I'm shilling which was never my intention. I only wanted to say that I've had a long interest in the illustrated novel format, and I hope someday that's a thing and so I hope Morbi's really hits it out of the park.

No, anon. I took every bit of criticism I got to heart, worked on it, and it made me a better person and artist. All four or five times. It's all the dramawhores and autists that were the problem.

Have you considered trying the forum adventure format à la Homestuck and Prequel?

Woah that's impressive, why are you downpl-

>porn comic looks like pic related
...oh. uh.
This isn't what I thought you meant.

>The one that is comparatively successful by my own standards is called Study Partners
Keep up the lesbian shit. Do you know how hard it is to find F/F furry comics.
>>
>>94567025
Sure but I never had a problem coming up with ideas. And having other people direct the comic for you is just asking to get boxed in. I think it's why Prequel was doomed.

>notes
I said readers, anon. I don't even use tumblr.
>>
>>94567188
This very thread is about one such comic.
Don't encourage him when Morb's got your fetishes covered.
>>
>>94567221
That's two, anon. In a sea of gay and cocks. I will take what I can and grab hold.

I was talking about the not-porn you mentioned, which is on Tumblr. Not that having a low number of notes is inherently bad, just that the way you phrased all that was kinda misleading.
>>
>>94567322
Yeah no, sorry, Res Nullius was a total failure. Under a hundred readers tops. And most of them are on comicfury, not tumblr. Gonna try to relaunch it some day, but it's back of the burner.

>>94567188
You got it, chief. Next couple pages go out to you.
>>
>>94566918
Dude, I'm not gonna press it any farther than this, but you were the kind of guy who pushed aside any criticism or suggestion that wasn't 100% iron-clad stone cold objective fact. Like, you got pissy at people asking you to try different angles and stuff.

I'm really sorry to hear that you still don't and just probably never will get it. If nothing else I just hope you reach a place where your art makes you happy regardless of whether 1 or 1000000 people are looking at it.

I really wasn't. I was there in the first place specifically so I could get real criticism and improve my art.

If you're the guy who still holds the grudge over the layout thing and thinks his shit don't stink, then you're just sort of person I was talking about.

Really, dude?
You'd be better off reading FoxDad.
>>
>>94567589
No, I'm a terrible artist and I'm not trying to start an argument or anything. And instead of saying anything more than that --since I saw how those HYW threads went-- I'm going to repeat the point of that last post.

If nothing else I just hope you reach a place where your art makes you happy regardless of whether 1 or 1000000 people are looking at it.

He's right I would. Though I'm also interested in fantasy and magic settings too.

Anthro women are a dime-a-dozen characters, I prefer daughterfu characters like Lily, honestly she's more engaging than Poppy and if she wasn't in the comic I wouldn't even bother reading this.

I just like damaged characters like Rei, Asuka, Miki Sayaka, etc.
>>
>>94568079
Foxdad is great because of how turbo autistic it is not because the jokes in it are funny.
>>
>>94568354
Foxdad is great because of how funny it is. I think you're just too autistic to admit it.

It really isn't.

No shame, I forgot too because this comic sucks at establishing anything, and I knew that faggot 'read the comic' guy would reply.
>>

>>
>>94568772
is cute anon
>>
>>94568985
Technically this is the first time we're actually seeing him use the power from his perspective. In comic its mostly just been hints and foreshadowing but a general audience probably wouldn't know for sure at this point either, though they would have a pretty good idea.

it's moreso alluding to it but the proof is in the pudding

Chicadino's power was explained in Haley's letter to Poppy, in this very same chapter.

I legit thought it was a metaphor, cause he got all his goons and shit.
>>
>>94569801
You're not the same idiot who thought the gods and trees of life were metaphors too, right?
>>
>>94569827
No but I was in that thread, it was pretty funny.

I think it'd be more compelling and magical if it was a metaphor though. Magical worshipped trees.
