I agree, though will make an exception for pickled onions. Pickled onions maintain a distinct flavor better than pickled cucumbers. Some other veggies like cauliflower also taste better pickled, I think. But lots of things just soak up the brine and take on the same taste with no variety, and lose their own taste.
