The strong Christian overtones are weird to me. MM walking along the beach with Highfather felt very blunt. In this thread a long while back we discussed it and my position was King had to vary the tone: opening the issue with Mister Miracle slitting his wrists is not doing that I'm down for the book regardless but right now I don't feel excited by it, and I if the twists are what I expect and what's really spelled out in the issue, I don't think I will be.

Secret Empire looks to be gearing towards a big reset button with the deus ex machina/technically a chekov's gun (but he screamed "I'M IMPORTANT LATER) via the inhuman who can puke out cosmic cubes (yay, another inhuman to save the day)

Can't join in because of internet outages which sucks because I had a lot of things to say about Mister Miracle and the reaction to it.

I mostly wanted to say that, as a pretentiousfag myself, I think artsy comics like King's just don't resonate with everyone, and I think there are people who are gonna call his work shit no matter what, like Alan Moore.

Maybe it's that some people look at cape comics as just being for entertainment, which is why you have so much backlash against any sociopolitical commentary in them. Maybe some people are simply contrarian and hate that he's gotten so much praise. There's lots of reasons.

And I have seen plenty of detailed and legitimate criticism of his comics including Mister Miracle, so that's not to say they're unquestionably good. But I think that a vast portion of the hate comes from people just not liking his type of comic. And I think in the case of Batman people expect it to be for everyone, being their biggest flagship title.

That's a lot more than I wanted to type and I won't be able to discuss it much more until next thread, unfortunately.

I also forgive it more because I'm not that big of a New Gods fan, but as a Wondiefag who has to deal with the praise of the New 52 Azzarello and Chiang run (which I like as a comic but resent the disregard for the character and her mythos), I can see why a NG fan would be frustrated or not want to read it at all.

In one comic Gotham would look like the most Gothic cityscape and in other one it would look like it's NYC and yet they're equally different from the Gotham initially conceptualized. If the story wants to be a standalone and form its internal logic and work with those going forward, let it be, that's what I mean by creative liberty. Capeshit has the most fluidity when it comes to different interpretation of same rule or premise of other narrative devices and depending on the situation it can absolutely be the best or worst thing but it definitely is a thing that's not shared largely in other mediums/genres or whatever.
As for your point about interview, I'd say judge the product when it comes out and how different it comes out from what it initially sounded like. But I can't really change your mind, I hope story is good and ends up appealing to you on as many levels as possible now.

That Tom Scioli Transformers G.I. The hand has been interpreted in numerous ways but it's almost definitely not Real-life God. I say "almost" because it's possible Gardner Fox was implying that but I highly doubt it.

I think it's accepted by most now that it was just ambiguous and not necessarily a literal hand, but the first canon explanation was in CoIE, Anti-Monitor reaches back through time to stop the universe from being created in the first place, and Spectre grabs his hand to stop him, so it was either AM or Spectre's hand we actually saw, but I can't remember which one.

Most people think this has been retconned but I can't recall ever seeing a different explanation for it.


As for New Gods I'm not an expert but it was intended as a pseudo-continuation of Thor and IIRC it was implied if not outright stated that the Old Gods were the Asgardians, wiped out by Ragnarok.

Later on other writers especially Morrison have reinterpreted them to be ALL of classic mythology instead of just the Norse, but I can't remember what the explanation for them existing simultaneously was.
