Tiny Rick was an episode to build up Summer as an actual intelligent and useful sidekick.

Pickle Rick was an excuse to animate a crazy fight scene and inform the audience that Rick is a terrible person. An obvious fact, but one the writers must feel is a stroke of cleverness, because they feel the need to reiterate the fact at the end of every episode in a dramatic, not comedic, way.

Pickle Rick's shittyness was intentional. Look at how hard Rick was selling how cool it was in the first scene, and how Morty just could not give a fuck. Rick is trying to force awesomeness like he used to do but it's not working.

The clip from next week's episode has Rick and Morty going through an exaggerated montage version of one their usual adventures and then freaking out afterwards. I think the show is going OTT lame on purpose to show how the past two seasons have worn down the characters.

Neither Morty nor the audience are supposed to give a shit about this stuff any more.
