>for some absolutely retarded reason the EU believed that the Empire was an external threat that fought the Republic hundreds of years ago in the Clone Wars that featured Jedi fighting Clones and ended in the Empire taking over the Republic like 150 years before ANH

Which stories explain it in this detail?
I think the worst offender I ever encountered was the Thrawn trilogy for saying the Noghri are under imperial control for 44 years.

I love to read up on how people from te 80s and 90s saw the clone wars era and apparently a bunch of people got duped into buying a fanfic called Episode 3 Fall of the Republic which coverd much the same points as ROTS right down to the duel at a volcano and people thought that this thing was the official script and not a cut down version of 5000 page fanfiction by some guy who is now a university professor.

I've had a flick through it. It's written as a sort of in-universe documentary, with interviews from various people who were at the battles. You're thinking of the wrong Ben
>>
>>94508824
In nucanon Han actually respects Ben a lot after he sacrificed his life for him. Han hadn't seen something that compassionate in a long time after he had spent nearly his entire adult life as a smuggler so Obi-Wan's death is likely what convinced him to actually join the Rebellion. You have to think of it from the point of view of Han being a guy that honors and respects the concept of a life debt like he has with Chewie. Obi-Wan may be dead so Han doesn't really owe him a life debt but in his mind he at least owes him a great deal of honor and respect.

As far as the Ben name goes, that's the name that Luke was used to calling him so I imagine after years of hearing Luke refer to him as that name Han thought of him more as 'Ben' than 'Obi-Wan'.

That has actually deleted scenes and other special features?

Regardless of re-shoots, I think there are definitely some scenes that where just plainly axed, like Whitta and Tudyk's fighter pilot cameos, or Melshie and the other guy being killed, spurring Chirrut into action.

Actually honestly I'll just come out and say that any scraps of footage they show from the space battle I'd gladly eat up.

Taking the FFG approach to things, lets say there are three primary ways to enjoy star wars. You can enjoy...

Living at the Edge of the Empire, stories about smugglers, bounty hunters, and other scum and villainy.

The battles during the Age of Rebellion, stories about war, with plenty of tacticool non-sense words and lazer weapons. The empire and its might vs the nimble and stealthy rebellion.

Or the mysticism behind Force and destiny, stories about finding inner truth and becoming a fucking space wizard.

Which one captured you? What aspect makes your excited for star wars?

Which films, shows, and books do you think best showcase these three aspects of star wars?

>Bounty Hunter movie
>Boba is the main character and a pod racer is his target
>just a simple story of some pod racer borrowing too much money from the Hutts and other gangs to fuel his drug addiction and pod racing funds so Boba is hired by Jabba while other bounty hunters like IG-88, Bossk, and Zuckus are trying to get the Pod Racer themselves

Luke's fell down an exhaust shaft that emptied straight into bespins atmosphere.

If they want to walk through fire and retcons to bring something back that should have been destroyed, they will.

>>94509488
I feel like one of their cameos would probably have given Green Squadron some screentime, as they are listed as having been there but can't be found in the movie.

Where they mentioned in the novelization?
>>
>>94510199
I have no idea how that rumor still exists when we've known for like 2 years that Vader's lightsaber was completely destroyed in Aftermath.
>>
>>94510325
Have to admit that out of the three, Age of Rebellion was the most appealing, followed closely by Edge of the Empire. At the risk of being an OT fag, the conflict between the Rebels and the Empire was always a major selling point for me as a kid.

I'd kill for more bounty hunter stuff; best I can say that I've been exposed to that caters to that regard is Uprising and >>94500607

That said, all three have their own charms, and I find myself falling back on the Force to make sense of some...issues.

I really don't get the where the whole 'man Boba Fett is a fuckin joke lol I hope they never make a movie about him because he doesn't deserve to be anything other than a comedic relief character that always fails everything' started in here because I clearly remember a few years back when they first announced the anthology movies and people in this thread were hoping that they made a Boba Fett movie with Morrison as the voice of Boba. I don't think this whole passive aggressive butthurt attitude towards Boba started until the issue of Star Wars where he lost to Luke.
>>
>>94510520
>Luke's fell down an exhaust shaft that emptied straight into bespins atmosphere.
No, Luke's fell into a gas storage shaft that had multiple exhaust pipes where it could have landed and gotten stuck.

Vader's lightsaber fell straight down a reactor shaft into a reactor where it was annihilated, just like Palpatine was.
>>
>>94510812
Mate, looking at the cross section of Bespins you can see that collector's shaft dumps straight down.

What's more, you can physically see Luke's hand still clutching the weapon as it falls away wheel Luke catches himself before falling off as well.

I'm not trying to be a contrarian, it's just based off what I've seen. They could have at least made some side story of a Maverick small-time Tibanna miner having a small fortune in illegal goods quite literally fall into his lap as he flies his speeder looking for a pocket of the gas, but that's about the o ly plausible way it wasn't destroyed as well.
>>
>>94511004
They probably will tell that story eventually.

It will probably be in one of those compilations of short stories that they release every so often.
>>
>>94510325
Oh, AoR for sure. I love battlefields and over the top babble as fighters daringly dive, blow each other up, as rebels charge on the ground, but run into the iron wall that is the empire. Its pure bliss.

Also from my perspective,
Best eote stuff is in ANH cantina and RotJ Jabas palace. It was represented in ESB with the bounty hunters, but none of them were really cool in that scene besides bossk and IG88.

Best AoR stuff is Battle of hoth and battle over Endor. I seriously watch the space section of the battle over Endor on occasion to this day.

FaD is honestly done best in rebels, but you cant not list Yoda's training in ESB, and is ONE more reason ESB is the best star wars movie by far. plz no bully
>>
>>94511004
>Mate, looking at the cross section of Bespins you can see that collector's shaft dumps straight down.
it has a hole at the bottom yes(for gas to come in from, since the shaft stores gas from the planet's atmosphere) but like we see with Luke there are exhaust pipes that can suck objects away.

>What's more, you can physically see Luke's hand still clutching the weapon as it falls away wheel Luke catches himself before falling off as well.
That's not Luke's hand, that's just miscellaneous garbage, likely a piece of the balcony they were on that got sliced off.
>>
>>94511256
It looked a lot more like a hand when my brother and I tried to freeze-frame it.

In any case, parts of Vader's saber surviving on to become relics isn't much more of a stretch than Luke's surviving intact.

>>

This is total butthurt from a bunch of liberals, race baiting and victim claiming.

I know plenty of people who became lighter after aging decades.

And an in universe explanation could be that's Rex spent most of his time in space. You'd become pale too without the sun.

Rex IS Nik Sant!!! Fuck your "whitewashing" butthurt.

Saw Guurrera doesn't look Forest Whitaker black in TCW, they tweaked his design in Rebels to be a compromise or evolution. Still doesn't give an in universe explanation for the eye color change. When aqua contacts exist in RL it means there was a conscious decision to keep them brown instead of aqua.

Hell, Rex could've got burned across his face and the skin was regenerated as best as could, bust was paler.

I gots Explanations!!! Yo.

I personally never got why this was an argument on the original A-wing since the model shows how big the pilot is inside.

Then the rebels version comes out and it's big like a Cadillac.
But since they called R-22s A-wings as well, it works for me that they would take the ship and produce a more compact version that we see at Endor.

Too bad everything had to change again. It would be neat to have seen the New Replublic with good stuff they never use, and the resistance has old GCW stuff that's still viable

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

I'd love a Grievous movie. Basically it'd show the Kaleesh-Huk war with Grievous being such a badass that the Jedi decide to side with the decimated Huks (even though they're the villains). Kaleesh lose, Grievous gets pissy, Dooku offers him a job, shuttle crashes, bing bang bosh you've got yourself an alien cyborg warlord after a scene that echoes RotS.
>>
>>94519842
You realize the statues in the post you're responding to specifically depict his altered backstory where he was modified piece by piece rather than all at once after a shuttle crash, right?
>>
>>94519842
shuttle crash backstory isn't canon. Lair of Grievous(which is where that screencap is from) explains that he willingly chose the "improvements" of cybernetic replacements.
>>
>>94519842
Except we already know Grievous specifically chose to become a cyborg because he felt his natural fighting ability wasn't enough to put him on par with the Jedi. Those statues show different stages of his transformation.

Nay. That book was probably the most wet fart of a book released for SW in years.

>It's elite imperials vs rebels, but the imperials are a bunch of pilots and noncombatants and the rebels are five people sitting in a cave with no support or real ships.

The twist of the novel is literally that the mysterious guy's true identity was a dude who appeared in like two episodes of TCW and everyone forgot about until just now. His motivation isn't even that good, just that his wife's kid doesn't hate him and that's it. They didn't even have the balls to kill him off even then.

Iden's entire claim to fame is being on the death star and not dying. Which would probably go a whole lot better if every other project didn't revisit the fucking Death Star already. She has no personality besides vague daddy issues that only nominally matter and no real motivation to be the hard chargin' imperial hardliner the book paints her has. The only relationship she has in the book is with a dude who outright says he wants to screw her over, and she does nothing with that information.

>Perhaps the only thing more unsettling than meeting your enemy is coming face-to-face with your hero.

>That’s where the Star Wars saga left us at the end of The Force Awakens, with Daisy Ridley’s Rey standing atop a craggy, windswept island, holding out Luke Skywalker’s long-lost family lightsaber to the man she knew only as a legend. But in The Last Jedi, she actually has much further to go to find the warrior who inspired all those old stories.

>This isn’t the Luke she’s heard about. It’s not the one we know either.

>This is a broken man. One who would have preferred to stay lost. And he feels the same way about that lightsaber.

>“The fact that Luke says, ‘I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end…’ I mean, that’s a pretty amazing statement for someone who was the symbol of hope and optimism in the original films,” Mark Hamill tells EW as part of our new cover story on the Dec. 15 film.

>“When I first read it, my jaw dropped,” the actor says. “What would make someone that alienated from his original convictions? That’s not something that you can just make up in an afternoon, and I really struggled with this thing.”

>Luke definitely does not give Rey the warm welcome he received when he went in search of Alec Guinness’ Ben Kenobi in 1977’s original Star Wars. She is warned. She is given an explanation. Nevertheless …

>“She’s so hopeful to everything,” Ridley says. “And obviously there’s a hint of, ‘What the hell?’”

>This rejection hits Rey’s abandonment issues. Hard.

>As we know, the young scavenger was ditched as a child on the hardscrabble junkyard world of Jakku by unknown parents and left for years to survive on her own. But lately, she has gotten accustomed to making fast friends, like BB-8, Finn, Chewbacca, and General Leia Organa. Even the murderous Kylo Ren became fascinated by her strength and resilience after kidnapping her.

>“Regardless of everything else, she’s been welcomed. No one ever really turns away from her,” Ridley says.

>That changes when she arrives on Ach-To.

>Luke’s brush-off makes Rey miss the gruff warmth of Han Solo, Ridley says, giving us a peek inside the head of her character: “’Oh my God, this other man that I lost within a couple days was somewhat of a father figure. Now he’s gone, and instead I’m with this grumpy guy on an island who doesn’t want me here.’”

>But Ridley says Rey is also placing huge expectations on Luke. She arrives on the island of Ach-To, site of a primitive Jedi temple, not to become a hero herself, but to shove Skywalker back into the fight.

>“I don’t think one girl, who he doesn’t know, turning up with a lightsaber is gonna make him go, ‘Oh, s—, yeah, of course I’ll get back into the action,’” Ridley says.

>“But does he not know her?” Hamill says in his separate interview.

>That’s a question Star Wars fans have been debating for two years. Soon they’ll learn the answer.

Part 2/2
>>
>>94532158
Not really, Figures and sets can take up a bit of shelf space depending on size and I meant to say that I didn't really have that large a collection which only consists of Books and Blu-rayscurrently, but I don't have any figures because I'm not a fan of the toys Hasbro makes at the moment and all the good looking figures made by other companies cost a fortune or any of the ones I might get are out of commission like this Fives and Echo figure. Besides, I am posting on a Star Wars board on /co/ on 4chan because I very much love Star Wars.
>>
>>94532346
Actually I fucked up, there's more in the article.

>A big part of Rey’s future will be uncovering her own past: Who is connected to her? Where did she come from? And why was she cast away?

>As she tries to pick up her own pieces, she may find they fit together well with the remnants of Luke Skywalker. Working together, they may become whole again.

>This isn’t going to be easy for fans. It wasn’t easy for Hamill.

>No one wants their favorite hero to be laid low, but it’s worth remembering: Star Wars always begins with “A long time ago,” but it doesn’t end with “happily ever after.”

>If there are going to be more stories, there has to be conflict, trauma, scars. A hero can’t still be the same triumphant figure he was decades before.

>The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson inherited a Luke Skywalker who had banished himself, but apart from nebulous hints of a Jedi academy gone wrong in the J.J. Abrams film, no one got a full explanation for the character’s disappearance.

>“The very first step in the writing of this was figuring out why he’s on that island,” Johnson says. “We know that he is not a coward. He’s not just hiding because he’s scared. But we also know that he must know his friends are in danger. He must know the galaxy needs him. And he’s sitting on this island in the middle of nowhere. There had to be an answer. It had to be something where Luke Skywalker believes he’s doing the right thing – and the process of figuring out what that is and unpacking it is the journey for Rey.”
>>
>>94532220
Looks like the TIE Scooters are real
>>
>>94532408
>The Force Awakens did tell us that Han and Leia’s son, Ben Solo, turned to the dark side and murdered his fellow students at Luke’s new Jedi academy – then went on to join the First Order under the name Kylo Ren. But it didn’t explain why Luke felt it was better to isolate himself than continuing to fight his former apprentice.

>Hamill hints that Luke has begun to doubt his own connection to the Force, wondering if he has been misreading it all this time.

>“[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character,” Hamill says. “And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”

>But there’s more to it than we know. There’s also more to it than the film itself will reveal…
>>
>>94532460
>“There’s massive amounts of backstory that is left to your imagination and I couldn’t do my job without figuring out what that was,” Hamill says. “Since it’s not really important to the main story as a whole a lot of it is just for my own process. I talked with Rian about it and went into this elaborate scenario of what happened to Luke after the end of the Return of the Jedi.”

>What we know for sure is that Luke is discovering there’s nowhere he can run that will allow him to escape himself.

>He’s older now, about the same age Obi-Wan Kenobi was in the original film, but in many ways Luke is still that silhouette we remember standing on the rocks, staring out at the twin suns of Tatooine.

>“I think he probably looks out on the horizon and wishes that he could be more effective, could be what Obi-Wan wanted him to be,” Hamill says. “But life is imperfect and without conflict there is no drama. Believe me, you’re going to see a lot of conflict in The Last Jedi. That is for sure.”

>His dreams are different now. Less hopeful. More regretful.

>But deep down, the farmboy turned warrior turned exile would also like to meet the hero known as Luke Skywalker again.

And that's all of it.
>>

>>“[Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character,” Hamill says. “And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that.
Holy fuck that's actually a huge reveal. I'm not entirely sure Mark was allowed to reveal that. Also I feel that it may hint at a twist being that Luke never had any padawans other than Ben (especially since Bloodline implies that only Luke and Ben are traveling the galaxy together) so when Ben turned to the dark side and likely destroyed all Jedi knowledge they had recovered up to that point Luke realized that he had wasted nearly 20 years of his life and by now was too old to realistically find another padawan, let alone rebuild the entire Jedi Order before he died of old age.

>We’ve already seen John Boyega’s conscience-stricken Stormtrooper try to escape from a life of wrongdoing. In The Last Jedi, Finn finds himself ready to abandon the good guys, too.

>You can’t blame him. He has been critically wounded by a lightsaber attack that still burns and has never quite healed. He watched Han Solo, another reluctant hero, die horribly at the hands of his own son.

>Finn did his part. Starkiller base has been destroyed. Now he wants out.

>“It got really real for him,” Boyega tells EW. “And he just wants to get away and not be involved. His intention in the first place was to go to the Outer Rim. He was always brought back [in The Force Awakens,], but this is his chance to get away and perhaps find Rey and go off together. He’s trying to do that at first.”

>But it’s not going to be that easy for him.

>Along with Luke Skywalker and Rey, the Stormtrooper formerly known as FN-2187 becomes a key part of The Last Jedi’s never-meet-your-heroes theme after befriending Rose Tico, a Resistance mechanic played by Star Wars newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

>“Everyone in the space, throughout the galaxy, would have heard about the young Jedi who discovered her powers and defeated Kylo Ren and the young former Stormtrooper who helped save the day,” Boyega says. “He’s a hero to people like Rose, who fight for the Resistance because their homes have been destroyed by the First Order.”

>Finn’s boast to Han Solo from the previous adventure has come true. “When Rose first meets Finn, that’s how she views him,” Tran says. “He is ‘a big deal.’”

>Rose, meanwhile, is not.

>“Poe Dameron is super cool. Finn’s super cool. Even though [Rose] is good at what she does, she’s not known,” Tran says. “She’s not cool. She’s this nobody, this background player, which is what makes her interesting. She’s not the best. She’s not royalty. She’s someone who is just like everyone else.”

>But Finn — she’s starstruck by him.

>“He appreciates the adoration for a second, but when he meets her, Finn is trying to escape the whole war. He’s trying to leave,” Boyega says. “And she comes in and basically gives him a depiction of himself that wasn’t necessarily true.”

>But he likes the impression Rose has, the vision she has of him.

>A good guy. A brave guy.

>Seeing himself through her eyes gives the wounded warrior gives the ex-Stormtrooper something to live up to.

>“It’s now an opportunity for him to be the best he can be. He has to make a decision, and Rose is there to help him make that choice,” Boyega says.

>It shouldn’t be a spoiler to reveal that, yes, she helps Finn stay in the fight, although the urge to get out is still burning inside him.

>Also… living up to Rose’s high expectations is not a task anyone can truly fulfill.

>Just as The Force Awakens seemed to reflect plot points from the original Star Wars, this film follows a few patterns from The Empire Strikes Back, although writer-director Rian Johnson says that was unintentional.

>“I just tried to kind of ignore that aspect of it and have the story take the shape that it needed to,” the filmmaker says. “But look, Rey is off in a remote location with a Jedi master, and the Resistance is in a tough spot, and we’re intercutting those stories. By its very nature, there are some structural parallels. But these are new characters, they’re dealing with new things, and that ultimately is what defines the movie. So I think that’s going to be unique.”

>Another parallel with that earlier film: Finn and Rose are part of a squad of good guys who head off on a mission to a glamorous location — not Cloud City on the gas giant planet of Bespin this time, but the casino metropolis of Canto Bight on the world of Cantonica.

>“The whole city is kind of one sort of luxury resort that’s been built on this very otherwise abandoned, arid planet,” Johnson says. “It’s like Vegas with aliens. So maybe it is just like Vegas.”

And that's it for Finn and Rose. Up next is an article on the creatures of Ach-To.
>>
>>94532751
>“Everyone in the space, throughout the galaxy, would have heard about the young Jedi who discovered her powers and defeated Kylo Ren and the young former Stormtrooper who helped save the day,”
That is absolutely retarded. Only Rey and Chewbacca knew about what happened in the duel, since Finn was knocked the fuck out. They fucking leave D'Qar as fast as they arrive after SKB blows up; no time for them to brag about what happened while everyone mourns for Han, plans to evacuate the planet, or celebrates.
>>
>>94532877
To be fair as per the novelization of TFA the Resistance canonically sent out probe droids to scout Starkiller Base right before the battle and likely recorded the duel with Kylo Ren. I imagine that recording was part of the huge news stories immediately following the destruction of the Hosnian System. It wouldn't be that weird given that irl things trend on the internet in a similar fashion to this.
>>
>>94532491
I'm worried about how they consistently push the idea of Kylo's betrayal driving Luke into a sulk. I know that they can't reveal much, but if the feeling of incompetence and regret is really at the center of Luke's self-imposed exile, then that's just disappointing. Obviously, I knew that was going to play a role, but not as a dominant element. I had hoped that the exile would be more connected to the Jedi lore, Luke's new philosophy on the Force and an outlook on the Jedi role in the galactic affairs and his (mis)understanding of the will of the Force.

I don't want just depressed Luke throwing in a towel after Kylo shat on him. It's understandable, it works dramatically, but it's also so simplistic. I wanted Kylo's betrayal to be a catalyst that propells Luke in a new, determined direction. Not a roadblock that sends him into a ditch.

>Who doesn’t like porgs? They’re all cute, and fluffy, and ingratiating…

>But they get everywhere.

>Below, in a new image from The Last Jedi, we see Chewbacca at the helm of the Millennium Falcon with one such interloper.

>These penguin-like wide-eyed creatures are native to the planet of Ahch-To, site of the first Jedi temple, and they’re just one type of new creature the Dec. 15 film introduces to the Star Wars menagerie.

>The porgs are so ubiquitous, they even leaked out ahead of time, sneaking past Lucasfilm security to bounce around the internet. In real life, they were puppets created through Neal Scanlan’s creature shop, with wide black eyes and furry, flapping wings.

>Writer-director Rian Johnson said that although Luke Skywalker retreated to Ahch-To, he didn’t want the Jedi to be alone. Inspiration for the porgs came during a visit to the Irish island of Skellig Michael, where the final scenes of The Force Awakens were shot.

>“If you go to Skellig at the right time of year, it’s just covered in puffins, and they’re the most adorable things in the world,” Johnson tells EW. “So when I was first scouting there, I saw these guys, and I was like, oh, these are part of the island. And so the Porgs are in that realm.”

>But there is another alien life-form inhabiting the primeval Jedi temple.

>“They’re kind of these sort of fish-bird type aliens who live on the island,” Johnson says. “They’ve been there for thousands of years, and they essentially keep up the structures on the island.”

>The Caretakers are slightly more anthropomorphic than the porgs. They’re animated with a person inside (Daisy Ridley said a friend played one of them) and they wear clothes and speak in an alien tongue.

>“They’re all female, and I wanted them to feel like a remote sort of little nunnery,” Johnson says. “Neal Scanlan’s crew designed them, and costume designer Michael Kaplan made these working clothes that also reflected sort of a nun-like, spartan sort of existence.”

>They can communicate with Luke through what Johnson describes as “a blubbery sort of Scottish fish talk” but they’re not thrilled to have him hanging around. Johnson says they “tolerate” his presence.

>The Force is connected with life. Yoda’s world of Dagobah was a swamp, teeming with flora and fauna, and so this ocean world would naturally evolve beings who are drawn to this sacred place. Johnson said they’re amphibious and may have risen up from the seas to tend to the buildings on this craggy archipelago eons ago.

>“You get the sense they did at some point or maybe they occasionally do [return to the sea,] but when we see them, they’re land creatures,” Johnson says. “They’re these big matronly creatures, but they have these little skinny little bird feet. They were really fun to work with on set.”

>We know from the teaser trailer that there is a tree-like structure on the Ahch-To island, and a fragile, ancient book that looks like the Journal of the Whills – a Jedi scripture that dates back to the original Star Wars mythology created by George Lucas. (In last year’s Rogue One, Baze Malbus, played by Jiang Wen, and Chirrut Imwe, played by Donnie Yen, were members of an order known as the Guardians of the Whills.)

>Johnson said The Last Jedi touches on mystical history but doesn’t dive deeply into creating a whole galactic religion, but there will be elements on Ahch-To that deepen the mythology.

>“Hopefully it will be fun to discover in the context of the movie,” he says. “My notion was this is a place that goes all the way back. This is where the cave paintings are.”

>Johnson said he had to resist the urge to make it look too clean, too modern. It had to be something more primitive.

>“The first designs that we had were temples, and I just kept pushing it back and saying, ‘No, think earlier, think earlier. Let’s push this all the way back and see how deep we can go into the foundations of where this all started.’”

GUARD.jpg

>Villains always have heroes of their own. But they’re not necessarily anyone you’d ever want to meet.

>That’s not the case with Star Wars.

>In The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren will venture to the side of one of his malevolent icons, and fans will finally get their wish to see the enigmatic tyrant in the flesh.

>Supreme Leader Snoke only appeared in The Force Awakens via hologram, but in the new film out Dec. 15, the towering character (performed via motion-capture by Andy Serkis) will finally emerge from hiding.

>These will be his protectors – the Praetorian Guard, a variation on the crimson-cloaked Imperial guards who flanked the Emperor in Return of the Jedi.

>“The Emperor’s guards were very formal, and you always got the sense that they could fight, but they didn’t,” writer-director Rian Johnson tells EW. “They looked like they were more ceremonial, and you never really saw them in action. The Praetorians, my brief to [costume designer] Michael Kaplan was that those guys have to be more like samurai. They have to be built to move, and you have to believe that they could step forward and engage if they have to. They have to seem dangerous.”

>The Praetorians get their name from our own true-life history and the elite special guard who protected ancient Roman emperors. “If we can get kids’ ears to perk up in history class a little bit when they hear that, that’d be a cool thing,” Johnson says.

>Since we’re seeing the galactic Praetorians up close, that means Adam Driver’s aspiring Sith will also bring us face-to-what’s-left-of-his-face with his Dark Side mentor.

>“They’re his personal guards,” Johnson says. “They stick with [Snoke]. So they’re essentially bodyguards.”

>The last time we saw Snoke in The Force Awakens (seen below), he was summoning Kylo Ren and Domhnall Gleeson’s General Hux back to his own sanctuary as the Resistance launched a crushing assault on the First Order’s planet-killing device, Starkiller Base.
>>
>>94533455
>Star Wars fans have exerted immense energy over the past few years creating Snoke theories aimed at unraveling the villain’s history. Johnson says The Last Jedi will reveal more about Snoke and his goals, but his history will remain somewhat murky.

>“Similar to Rey’s parentage, Snoke is here to serve a function in the story. And a story is not a Wikipedia page,” the filmmaker says. “For example, in the original trilogy, we didn’t know anything about the Emperor except what Luke knew about him, that he’s the evil guy behind Vader. Then in the prequels, you knew everything about Palpatine because his rise to power was the story.”

>In The Last Jedi, Johnson says, “we’ll learn exactly as much about Snoke as we need to.”

>The good news for fans of the bad guy: “We will see more of him, and Andy Serkis will get to do much more in this film than he did in the last one,” Johnson says. “And that guy is just a force of nature.”

>In the behind-the-scenes video released at Disney’s D23 Expo last month, there appeared to be a shot of Johnson looking up at a looming figure that many thought looked Snoke-like. Whether it is or not, we still don’t know. But practical effects have been a priority for the new Star Wars films, so will we see Snoke performed as a real-life puppet?
>>
>>94533476
>“No, it’s entirely a mo-cap performance,” Johnson says. “[Creature designer] Neal Scanlan built a maquette that we had on set for lighting reference and to give the actors a sense of what it was going to feel like. And then we scanned that and [Industrial Light & Magic] used that in their renderings, but Snoke will be an entirely CG creation.”

>Johnson says Serkis will deliver satisfying menace when we finally get up close and personal with the First Order’s ruler.

>“I’d be sitting at the monitor just with my eyes as big as dinner plates,” Johnson says. “It’s one of those performances where after every line, I’d look over at whoever’s standing next to me with an expression on my face like, ‘Oh, my God, we just got that.”

It is competition. It's a streaming service. Disney has a large enough archive of content that they're going to rival Netflix's "something for everyone" strength. There's little reason for Disney not to just play ball with Netflix, the biggest name in streaming, rather than trying to shake the waters for a murky chance at a small percentage for two years. Disney is "Streaming" is synonymous with "Network Cable television" and people are just going to "get the Disney channel". That's not the way it works anymore.

This is the way people have been begging for it to work. Streaming is turning into an a la carte service.

Would you say HBO has reason "not to just play ball with Netflix"? Because this is no different than what HBO, Showtime, or any other single-channel streaming service has done. Disney probably has more content than any of those others though.

You don't want Disney's stuff? Don't get get it, just like you don't get HBO if you don't want HBO's stuff.

This is assuming that's how it's going to work. if it does work like HBO Now, Amazon Prime, or Netflix, I might consider it. But as it stands, I have every reason to assume Disney will treat it like a profit pump, slapping adds, shitting speeds, and rotating features as opposed to stable content.

But that's not inherent to being a prequel.
That was an active choice that George made after saying that Star Wars is about childlike optimism and that it's different from "hip" things.

Then he makes a Prequel series about shit things happening.
Not only that, but he rakes all the optimism of the OT through the mud too. That golden age of a more "civilized time"?
Well turns out it was always shit. The Jedi were hypocrites. Anakin was always a cunt.

No it doesn't.
But it also doesn't erase the fact that half of Star Wars is about a shit world becoming shittier.
You can't say that just because there's a happy ending that the entire series is filled with hope.
The Prequels do not erase the Originals and vice versa.
The result is that Star Wars is both and not exclusively either.
After George made the Prequels, his statement became incorrect about the series as a whole.

Let's pretend that George said that Star Wars was "blue".
The OT was "blue". No one denies that.
The PT comes out and it's "red".
You have two parts.
"Red" PT and "Blue" OT.
Together they make the whole of Star Wars films.
What "color" is this whole?
Red or blue?
Neither. You can't choose just one "color" of the franchise.

Can you understand this extremely complex metaphor?

That's a meta-arc that crosses both trilogies.
The Prequels have nothing to do with his redemption.
Every movie has its own arc from start to finish, separate from the next ones.
And every trilogy has its own arc as well.
And finally there is the arc of the character across all media.

Just like how each episode of a tv show has an arc while being part of a season and series long arc

LOL so the plot of a television show like twin peaks doesn't matter because the episodes have individual arcs now? Your analogy would make more sense, if the movies were on their own and told individual stories, but they don't. They're all about Vader, and in the OT, hero's journey with Luke, and you want to know who's a main character in the OT, who redeems himself at the end?

So Padme didn't tell Anakin she was pregnant until 9 months in? Does that mean he was gone for 9 months? And she didn't think to at least fucking call him to let him know they were having a kid? Did she never go to the doctor? Could't Threepio at least stick a finger up her pussy and be like "oh you're actually having twins"?

to be fair the OT has a few moments like this, although they're not as headache inducing.
