I just picked up these at a bargain store, the hellboy books were 2 dollars and 3 dollars. I figured then that's as good excuse as any to finally get into hellboy.

I have no idea what seven psychopaths is but I flipped through the art and the title sounds cool and it cost 3 bucks so why not

How'd I do /co/?

>>
>>94499434
You can read either series individually just fine but I personally I like Hellboy more, just because of the stuff he runs into in his journey and the end of his journey is great. BPRD is great to and the character development is cool to see from plague of frogs to Hell on Earth. BPRD seems more action packed and more bloody and you get to see what BPRD agents go through and more of the human element to the end of the world.

>>94499556
You did good anon...you did good. Damn I wish I was that lucky. And does 7 psychopaths have anything to do with the movie of the same name?

To the anon with the big Dredd collection from last thread, Is that the Dredd costume from XCoser? How's the visibility on the helmet visor? And is the actual costume any good? It looks pretty good in pictures, but at only 300 bucks for everything, I'm nervous that it won't be very durable at all.

Yeah! Ive only read from that series what I have on my shelves, but its been really good. They are all teens, just like with Ultimate Spider-man. Doom is at the same school Johnny, Reed, and Sue go to. Ben is Reeds old neighbor that is a pilot for the ship Reed and Sue build. they go into the negative zone and get powers. Doom is at their school too

Ive never actually read any FF before, and it seems like that was a good place to start. I'm not sure where to begin with other stuff since there seems to be a lot of FF stuff out there

The jacket, trousers, vest, shoulderpads, boots and gloves are all from leathernext. The helmet is from bawzprops because he purchased the moulds used for the film and it's as accurate as you can get.
So far its cost me about £1400/$1800 and it's not yet finished

The vest and shoulders on the xcoser don't look great, but rest is pretty good for the price.
If you wanted to, you could always upgrade the xcoser vest later to something more accurate as everything else is good.

Oh geeze. And thanks, your costume looks pretty great. And full leather, it's definitely worth the money. I'll hold off on XCoser for a little while longer. Good thing I didn't jump the gun when I saw the price, I'll need to think on it more.

I've been wanting to get more into cosplay for the longest time. My budget right now is about a thousand burgers, but I can inflate it a bit if I just take longer. And I quite honestly still haven't decided if I want a Dredd costume, a colonial marine costume, or if I should just dive right in and try to make a classic Dredd costume.

Classic comic. I sculpt a lot of toys and garage kits, so I'm fairly confident in my ability to make the eagle and then cast it in lightweight resin while the other shoulder pad along with the knee and elbow pads look pretty easy with just EVA foam. Plenty of replica badges and lawgivers out there, so my only real concern is finding good boots, gloves, and belt.

The sale is pretty much over. They wanted to get rid of stocked items and I'm not sure if they'll ever reprint them, what with the way they're handling the Fantastic Four IP.
A lot of American comic shops and online sellers participated in it, hardly anyone from Europe, dunno where to look if you're American, but cheap-comics.com had them still stocked for relatively cheap last time I checked. I got mine from them for €130 I think (all 3 that is).
According to amazon.com vol 1 and 2 are already OOP and go for over a hundred dollaridoos from 2nd market sellers.
Checked cheap-comics now, still in stock but not to those outrageously low prices any more. Maybe check ebay?

I'm keeping them in the foil in case they ever get a rarity and price that I'd prefer to sell them and buy the individual trades. It's not like they are readers anyway. It's much more comfortable to read them in digital.

Thanks, I preordered The Legion by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning Vol. 1 and it has all the stuff of them leading up to Legion Lost. When they solicit Vol 2 and it's just LL 1-12 then I'm rather picking up the Legion Lost HC (can still get it relatively cheap right now).

>>94516702
>but I think they are out of print.
Nah, DC constantly reprint their strongest seller behind Batman and Watchmen. Sandman Omnis won't go OOP any time soon. It's just a matter of where you buy it so that you get the lowest price.

Yes, Even though cover/amazon description says it's the revised edition from 1991 it's really a print from 2006. Search for 0007611625 or 978-0261102668 on amazon or wherever you order and you should get it (because you may end up ordering a regular Hobbit book instead). German amazon still had a dozen in stock so you should be good.
Art from the scan (should be available on libgen etc if you want to check it out first) as an example. Hope you can live with tumblr/whiskey noses because Bilbo and the dwarves sure have them.
>>
>>94517953
>>94518193
just noticed how the art seems to be compressed. because it is. the format of the comic is much broader so the scanner had to compress it to make it fit regular page style I guess.

>>
>>94518193
Cool, thanks. I've never read the Hobbit or seen the movies (and have no intention of ever doing so), but I want to see what it's all about so this comic seems like a good way to do that. I almost bought it once before but held back because I thought it was text with illustrations, but I see now it's a proper comic.
>>
>>94518502
The book is good, it really is, but don't ever touch the movies. keep in mind though, it was written for children, so the story isn't quite exactly a masterwork of intrigue and brilliant wit.

Anyone have any tips for selling comics on eBay? It's been probably 15 years since I've done it so I don't really know what it's like now. I understand it's very biased in favour of the buyer, these days. Not really interested in getting in disputes with sellers over condition, etc. Just want to make some money to buy more comics with!

>>
>>94520549
When I was doing it fifteen years ago I would always set the starting price at half of the cover price and it usually went up from there, sometimes quite a bit. I didn't list condition back then unless there was a really big flaw, like a crease or damaged binding, nor did I even have photos. You got more than half cover, so I'd say you did all right.

I'm not that anon, but I swear that they consolidated the entire thing into two trades a few years ago. That consolidation does not appear on comicbookDB or wikipedia though.
If amazon is right, that first volume is 584 pages and the second is 616 pages.
Amazon listing:
>Now, in the first of two volumes, 52 is collected with bonus material after each chapter, including concept designs, page breakdowns, scripts, alternate story elements, and more! >Collects 52 #1-26.

You should first search available listings for what you have, and sort between relevancy, noting the key words they use so that they reach the top, and lowest price. Then search through sold listings to get a reasonable idea of what you can actually get. I don't have the patience to sell anything that I couldn't get less than $10 for anymore, it's exhausting taking pictures, listing, hoping it sells, packaging, and shipping. You don't have to go autistic with the photos and condition description, most buyers know what to expect if you're up front about them being from your personal collection. Just make sure that the packaging is bulletproof, because ebay will screw you if USPS fucks your shit up.

I find The Hobbit far better written than LotR, it's written for children yes, but he seems better at that. In LotRs he pads it down with so much descriptions that don't matter, they even fail to put you in the setting. I actually prefer the movies to the books. Just not The Hobbit movies, those are trash, read the book for that one

>>94529034
I feel like everyone knows The Hobbit is better, or at the very least recognize that any/all LOTR success is from The Hobbit.

Not only was the book suitable for a younger audience, its 70s animated movie kept even younger fans or casuals interested in JRR Tolkien stuff. Including sparking two less popular LOTR animated movies.
Anyone who only loves LOTR is a fool who ignores the beautiful stepping stone they used to get there.

Just finished Avengers: Ultron Unbound and the main story was decent, I'm a huge fan of Ultron though. The backup 4 issue mini for The Vision was great though. A virus is changing the personalities of them, Ultron summons Vision to a bar and he's being a drunk old grandpa wanting to have whiskey with his grandson. Then Vision has Simon's personality take over, but instead it's Simon playing a Dick Tracy type character and Jocasta is his secretary. Fucking great stuff.

Drain I got cause Sana Takada is just drawing sexy big breasted vampire women. Can't go wrong with that!

Whisper in the Walls is fantastic so far. Spanish author who has written some movies with Guillermo Del Torro. Monster horror in an asylum type story where the main character is a young girl who survived her parents deaths. really good so far.

What makes something worth buying for you?
I'm assuming you all have a larger digital collection or floppy collection, so why do you only buy certain things?
Do you actually read your physical collection or has it all just sat on a shelf since getting it?
>>
>>94536682
I used to try to collect digital, but I had a harddrive crash with tons of comics on it, so I sort of gave up on that. I only look for something I'm missing or a certain book I'm looking to read right then.

I have a huge floppy collection and started buying trades for some of the older stories that would be too expensive to recollect from ebay or wherever. If there's a story that I really love I'll buy a TPB or hard cover of it so I can read it easier.
Lately I've been getting into buying the trades instead of the floppies just because of pricing. I'm sick of paying $4 for a single issue that isn't even a full story anymore. It's worth it to wait six months and buy the trade for $10-15.

>>94536682
I've got a huge collection on a hard drive but I buy novels so I thought might as well buy comics too. At least support it a little.
>>
>>94536682
I try to only buy floppies of smaller books. but then it's a risk cause it could be cancelled. so it's always a tough choice on what to buy in floppies, but I try to keep the books under 10/month

Digital is only what I download from torrents or win-o threads. I don't like paying for digital cause I don't have a big tablet, books are easier to handle and lend out, and don't want to pay for something that could be wiped out as easily as digital.

Trades I bargain bin a lot. Other than that, whatever book I'm really liking reading

-Sandman Mystery Theatre
-Sin City (obviously)
-The Question by O'Neil
-The Spirit
-The Rocketeer (as short lived as it was)
-Anything by Brubaker and Philips from Image, as long as you're into real world stuff without alot of heroism and "good guys"

The series is a liitle uneven with shifting artists (including Kirby) for a long while- Kirby eventually takes over all the penceling, and it picks up as you head for 120 - it is fuckawesome by 131 when it goes cosmic.
silver age isn't for everybody, though.

If ya need more entry-level easy to jump in Batman stuff, I'd say look into Joker's Asylum. A collection of stand alone stories of Batman's most well known villains. Very solid and outside of normal continuity so you can just pickup and read without worry.

Also how much that Sandman cost cause that is SEXY. What is it 6 trades worth of issues? 8?
>>
>>94553963
It was about $130 AUD and it has the first 5 trade paperbacks and the first special, there's also the second one with the last 5 and the second special which I'm saving up for.

All of it has the recoloured art as well which is noice.

You guys know any comics about food/cooking?
I've decided I'm going to try to put a shelf near my kitchen of all food/cooking mangas/comics.

I already own all of Chew, the first two volumes of Voracious (with plans to buy the third soon as it comes out), I plan to grab Space Battle Lunchtime next time my LCS has a big sale as well as Food Wars, and already have Delicious In Dungeon.

A triple dip on this series.

Bought the trades, bought the floppies (although not from the very start) and now this.

Only complaint is the 3 self published issues (which are collected here for the first time) are at the back of the book, when they come before the Boom series.

I been coming to this thread at times and been seeing people that bought Love and Rockets. From the covers it looks interesting. Is there any reading order or do I just randomly pick one up?
>>
>>94562533
Start of with the Library paperbacks. If you want to read Jaime start with Maggie the Mechanic. For Gilbert start with Heartbreak Soup.

Most people would recommend starting with Jaime.

Fanta has a page with the order and a little more info but it is slightly out of date.
http://www.fantagraphics.com/howtoreadloveandrockets
>>
>>94562533
Either get the big Locas (Jaime) omnibus or the big Luba omnibus. Not cheap but it's every stoty from the floppies and more. Failing that just start with the Titan/Fanta trades, start at the beginnig, Maggie The Mechanic for Jaime and Heartbreak Soup for Beto. Cheaper less risky option if you're not keen but if you ARE you can just go on tho the next volume. I like yo mix it up with the Titan collections of both Bros and a good load of the mag-sized floppies, to the pamphlet size, to the new stories annual squarebound issues to their current magazine reincarnation (up to #3 now). So yeah probably start with the individual Bro.Titan trades.

Newest is Comics Dementia. Next one is due in January and it's a Jaime one with the Rena story that was published in the New York Times, God and Science, and Love Bunglers.

Oh. Unless you mean the return to the magazine format. Issue three just came out but I don't really see it as a good starting point since both brothers are continuing storylines from New Stories.

Pickups for this week.
The Newsboy Legion and boardgame were spur of the moment grabs.
The brave and the Bold is a collected floppy brick, so basically a trade's worth for less than $10.

45 yeah, but for 100 I feel like I could wait till I get something else. Perhaps an issue signed by him at a convention myself.
Or who knows maybe one will be around a few months later when my pockets are deeper.

Holy shit man, I love it. I have never seen that set in the 3rd pic before, is it new? I'd rather have the complete chronicles in a 3 HC set like that instead of that 1 HC because it always feels like it could rip apart any time due to being produced so cheaply.
Where did you get it from? do you have ISBN numbers?

I'm not the first two photos, I posted it in response to the Conan books in the first pic. The Howard books were published by Wandering Star, I don't know, a decade or more ago and are signed and numbered. There is also a fifth volume, the first one published, collecting Bran Mak Morn and other stories that is illustrated by Frazetta. I got them on eBay from thebookpalace, IIRC. There are also non-signed and numbered editions without the slipcases, which are more affordable. The whole Conan set was maybe $500 or thereabouts. I think they might have been priced at $150 each and there was a deal or something, I can't remember. It seemed like they reduced the price to move them after still having stock so many years after publication.

Sheeeeeeiiiit, got those today. it's the complete Asterix except for the newest books which are shit anyway. All HCs, they collect 4 individual BDs (except for the last one, which collects 3 and fills the missing pages with a huge commentary section instead).
All of them in German (which incidentally is my 1st language, I don't speak a word of French).
My dad already has all Asterix BDs, but they're fuck-old and my brother and I read them into literal bits when we were kids.
The Uderzo book is an even thicker book about Uderzo, one of the creators of Asterix.
And he're the kicker, I got them for free.
I'm driving around a lot with a friend of the family who had a stroke of bad luck (husband died in May, broke her leg, cancer/chemo for 4 years now, this and that) and she gave it to me today because she knows I read comics.

Only complaint I have is about the design. they're all called "Asterix der Gallier" (Asterix the Gaul) and the only kind of numbering on them are those stars at the spine of the book. Stars! Why not roman lettering? Fuck me, what a wasted opportunity.
And they're sorted in the German order again, which is slightly different to the original French order.
Still man, fucking awesome.

Well, I guess it's fair that the states get shafted once or twice compared to how great we normally have it with IST and such. I'm surprised the dredd mega collection is so hard to find even on ebay and amazon, though.I'd be willing to pay aftermarket price if the aftermarket for those, you know, existed at all.

Read at least some pre-Moore Swamp Thing if you haven't already before jumping into his run.

The original Len Wein run at least. It's 13 issues, it's really good, and you'll appreciate Moore's stuff a lot more for having read it.
>>
>>94574599
I appreciate Moore's run LESS cause of it.
The super fast wrap up of his plot with the corporation wasn't too bad, but later he turned the minor characters into completely different people.
The strong willed reporter woman turned into a fearful abused woman who was too afraid to even bath in a few inch deep water. The kind but tricked doctor who becomes an abusive gun toting fearmonger. Just full on character assassinations that deserve to be bashed.

Shillers gunna shill. What I just finished:

Whispers in the Walls (Humanoids) by David Munoz and Tirso. Can really tell that David Munoz has worked with Guillermo del Toro on a couple of scripts before cause this is a movie pitch. But to it's credit, it's a damned good one that Hollywood would butcher cause there isn't a happy ending and they would change an obvious thing to make it have one. Also, the art is stellar and so while it's a movie pitch the visual storytelling elevates it far beyond that and turns it into an amazing graphic novel. Monster horror story with a lot of tragic moments and a story that keeps it flowing back and forth between the two main antagonistic factions. 8.5/10 and would recommend

Drain Vol 1 by CB Cebulski and Sana Takeda. Only picked it up for the beautiful art. Sana drawing big breasted women? Yes please. This book actually ends up showing off her talent far more than I expected cause the writing is absolute trash! The dialog was so bad I started to skim it. Thing is, the visual storytelling is done so well that skimming the dialog is all you need to do cause the visuals tell the story far better anyways. So by the end of the trade I stopped caring that the prose and dialog were so bad cause they didn't matter. Also, surprised to see Sana channelling the over abundant blood like Ninja Scroll in this, beautifully drawn. 7/10 would be a 3/10 with any less amazing art

See New Mutants vol 2 is getting a new TPB with all 13 issues?

Pretty hyped. I've got the old one, but that only collects 1-6, and I love the series.

Hopefully this isn't ENTIRELY just to cash in on the name recognition the movie will bring and we'll get reprints of Academy X too. Those Childhood's End TPBs in particular go for crazy prices these days.
>>
>>94583015
Don't really care why it's getting a reprint. I will buy oversized trades of it. Found Demon Bear Saga was really overpriced at my LCS
>>
>>94583097

Eh, at least the original New Mutants stuff is still in print. This is the 2003 series which has never all been collected before (the old trades do 1-6 of New Mutants vol 2, then skip 7-13, and pick up after the rebrand to New X-Men: Academy X #1).
