They met up last year and tried to figure out a schedule for when everyone could come work on the movie. It was agreed that it just couldn't happen, so Mike Mignola decided he'd get another Hellboy movie going.
There was no corporate fuckery to blame here Just Del Toro's schedule being incompatible with everyone else's. If it wasn't going to happen in 2016, it just wasn't going to happen.
