The show and the game were actually from two different projects. I'm a bit hazy on what exactly the other project's name was but.

One was a streamlined action-heavy series.

The other was designed as a sitcom from the beginning.

Because SEGA are cheap, they decided to "save money" and bring the two vastly different projects together. This is why the "character profiles" from the official site never fit their show personalities. This is why Eggman got the developed-for-games awesome "Red Baron" design instead of the wimpy comedy design originally planned for the sitcom show (google "eggman sonic boom early design"). SEGA took an unfinished game with developed art and a ready-to-produce sitcom without it and put them together, resulting in a shitty, unfinished game and a now-3d sitcom cartoon.
