Yeah the Beast is still around and by all indications completely invincible, but the alliance is uniting planets and technology like never before, even beyond single star systems

Although imagine if the show revealed that similar alliances had banded together before, much bigger stronger and smarter than the current protagonists, and all had been devoured

the good guys were losing when they thought they were only fighting ONE planet sending monster making viruses. turns out there was more than one.

and they were already having tremendous loses (planets being consumed by the virus or by their own people going rogue).
