Why isn't there a cartoon series?

Both were going to have a cartoon but they were scrapped.

Considering it came out in an era when EVERY big movie had a cartoon, that it had a great toyline to capitalize on, and that kids fucking love dinosaurs, it still baffles me to this day that we never had a Jurassic Park cartoon

I'd imagine it'd be like Jumanji where the kids are the protagonist and one of the adults is their constant guide. They basically have to keep things running on the island and you'd have new enemies like some merc group trying to steal the formula and an evil scientist trying to create a super predator.

Remember the Chaos Effect toyline? The one with mutant dino hybrids? That was meant to promote a cartoon. Cel-shaded, so the story goes.

When they pitched it to Spielberg, he immediately shot it down (some say he didn't like it, others say he was just in a really, REALLY bad mood that day).

Hasbro figured "eh, might as well" and off they went.
