Not quite. The new satellite ended up doing a financial review, and it would have been too late to sign up with them. I chose to switch companies and maintain the current satellite, with a direct path to prelaunch two more. I can't say yet if I made the right choice yet, but I think this path allows for a lot more options in the future.

I did lose 180 days of vacation though, so my winter vacation plans are now shot. That sucks at least.

It was an attempt to conserve viewership and yeah it backfired. At the time Toonami was enjoying really high viewership and even longrunning shows did well on the block. Rather than jumping from one fad anime to the next and hoping it would work out, it would be much easier to just have the block be more or less the same and still return okay - decent ratings. The block could survive like that, and he could then still afford to pick up the odd fad anime now and then when space freed up. He didn't account for how quickly people started getting bored with the same 4-5 shows every week for month after month.

The ratings aren't declining from stagnation, they're declining from people pulling the plug on cable due to networks filling their channels with filler to stave off bankruptcy as more advertisers pull out. If one block on one network starts getting boring you don't cancel your entire cable subscription, but if 70% of the channels you watch start doing daily marathons of the same trite serialized garbage, then you start to wonder why you bother when you can just spend the money you save from cancelling on a netflix, amazon prime, and hulu subscriptions.

It'll be reduced to 2 hours consisting of DBS, Naruto, and 2 other shows cycled out from their backlog. Maybe one new show per year.

The long term shows had excellent ratings retention and held decent viewership numbers at the time. So yes it was a conservative decision to rely more on those rather than trying to pick up new shows and hoping they would retain viewership. And really, I'd say the longrunners did their job, they manage to stem the bleeding pretty well even while the rest of CN/AS started burning to the ground over the last two years. Take a look at CN's daytime lineup and then look at AS and tell me which network made the right decisions.

You vastly overestimate how influential a few complainers on the internet are. The voices of 4chan are not the majority, far from it. The majority loves garbage like SAO and AgK, and is perfectly happy watching reruns of DBZ over and over, just like they enjoy Family Guy over and over. But the problem is cable in general is losing customers as more networks succumb to drastic budget saving measures. It makes the overall package less ideal to customers. You people tend to forget that AS does not exist in a vacuum, it's part of a Viacom package and is bundled with many other networks. If other networks in CN/AS's bundle suffer it makes the entire bundle less appealing and people drop it. If enough networks fail due to not conserving for the coming viewership/advertisement famine then the networks who were doing fine start to suffer because people aren't going to keep their subscription just for one block on one network when everything else they used to like is now shit.
