What is this post/pre movie distinction? I never watched anything post-movie. Is it just really shitty, did they change the writing staff? Why the separation?

Immediate drop in animation quality, characters get flanderized hard, spongebob's voice becomes an unbearable high-pitched screech, and the writing and jokes just don't come anywhere close to pre-movie.

Not the same anon, but iirc, the creator and a bunch of the original writers left after the movie, then eventually they were pretty much all gone.

The original creator Stephen Hillenburg left the show to focus on his marine biology passion. As executive producer, he still approved of the shitty post-movie scripts, but he clearly wanted to the show to end after the movie to begin with.

Now he's back and the quality has gone up a little, but it's still a really different show and not nearly as good as the classic seasons.
