Ahsoka Tano

It was supposed to be like a Nemoidian skeleton
But then they changed the Nemoidian design, so it didn't fit.
But then they created the Geonosians as the real makers of the battle droids.

Like when there's such a focus on customizations in FPS now, making your dude look how you like, within uniform regulation, and coupled with regional differences based on maps it seems like there has to be some major compromises somewhere, either by defaulting us when we go to 'specialist' environments or by limiting customisation to things that are transferrable over all variations or (and there's about zero chance of this) offering customisation slots for each variant.
I do want to see how they handle it.
Still not buying it at launch, until I see how bad their extra shit model is.

When showing someone Star Wars for the first time:

Same peace faggot from the last thread. Lets try to keep the peace here.

New simple question, its not /v/ here I know, but what are some of your favorite Star Wars Video Games?
I'd have to say Empire at War and Republic Commando. I played just about everything though, Battlefront 1 and 2, Jedi Knight 1 and 2, Lego Star Wars, even a little known game named Pit Droid, anyone remember it?
Never played Knights of the Old Republic though, heard all about it bet never got around to playing it.
>>
>>94410058
Everyone knows the Vader reveal.

Just have them watch Chronologically, so they can properly include Rogue One, and then progress into the ST without jumping around the timeline.

You'll find the stakes of the OT are much higher following ROTS and RO.

There's various other reasons why Chronological is the most logical choice, but those are just the most obvious and undeniable ones.

>>94410047
TPM is integral in multiple ways.
From experiencing the corrupt mess of the senate with Padme that sets the stage for the clone wars, to Anakin's pathology, I.e. how and why Palp is able to manipulate him.
The parent subplot and the "can't stop the change" throughline of the trilogy.
>>
>>94410058
No. The only true way to enjoy Star Wars (as intended) is to watch Rogue One twice, then the Christmas special, then Rogue One again and top it off with the Christmas Special again.
>>
>>94410100
My favorite was Battlefront 2 (2005, obviously). I also loved The Force Unleashed and the Jedi Knight games. Never got the KOTOR hype to be honest, although I did admittedly try (and fail) to get into TOR)

Also I know people don't want to admit it because >Dice & >EA, but I genuinelly think the upcoming game looks like it could be the greatest Star Wars game ever made. Despite the companies previous failures, the upcoming BF2 looks like everything I could have asked for in a Star Wars game.
>>
>>94410130
Not really. I love this series because of TCW.
>>
>>94410100

>>
>>94410156
That's your personal experience though
If you're just going for "Best chance of making someone with no experience love Star Wars", ANH wins that handily
>>
>>94410130
I've seen many cases of people who watched and the Prequels first, and found ANH to be even more special following the PT. Seeing the son of Anakin Skywalker topple the giant must be an incredible experience.

I can only imagine its even more special following Rogue One.

>Not into dickgirls, I'm afraid.
She doesn't care anon. You will choke on that big blue cock, whether you like it or not.
>>
>>94410179
I disagree, an entire generation started with TPM and they fell in love with the series just fine.

In fact last thread, two anons spoke about similar experiences. One person said that they were blown away by TPM. And the other said that he didn't really like Star Wars after seeing the entire OT, and it wasn't until ROTS did he truly see the series as something incredible.

ANH worked amazingly because it was the first (and mostly universally successful in hooking SW fans), but that doesn't mean it is by default the only "right" way to do it. TPM captures the magic of Star Wars very well, I feel confident that it works just as well as hooking new fans.

How is the Han Solo movie even going to balance itself? To my knowledge, it's going to contain Han meeting and befriending Chewie, Han starting work with Jabba, Han winning the Millennium Falcon from Lando, and various moments from Han's youth that got him on the trajectory to becoming a smuggler. That seems like a hell of a lot to cram into one movie.
>>
>>94410244
>I disagree, an entire generation started with TPM
Is that true?
I was smack dab in the middle of the target demographic for TPM (10 on release) and I've watched the OT before that.
I think you're underestimating how popular the 97 Special Editions are.

Not saying against TPM or anything, just that I don't think it was as much as a blank slate as you're implying.
>>
>>94410244
I can only speak with anecdotal evidence but TPM was my first Star Wars movie when it was first released in theaters (I was 10) and I remember being so confused that I didn't get much out of it at all. It wasn't until Attack of the Clones came out three years later that I started really liking Star Wars.

That was probably just me but I didn't think TPM was the best starting point for me personally because I felt no attachment to anything that was going on.

I'm just speaking of personal experience growing up where myself and everyone else I knew saw Star Wars in theaters with the Prequels.

We'd only then get to see the OT if they would re-run on tv, of if we were lucky enough to have parents who bought the VHS's.

Everyone in school, kids and adults, boys and girls, seemed to love the prequels. It was a huge craze. I especially remember ROTS, all our parents were talking about how good it was.

I'm aware that many kids still saw the OT first, or at least around the same time as the Prequels being released.

Battlefront II was THE shooter for me when I was a teenager. I flirted with Counter-Strike, Quake, finally settled with Halo and Battlefield, all the usual stuff, but it's BFII, of which I have the fondest memories. For a few years, very nearly every day played out the same, with me and my friends meeting together to play some splitscreen BFII on PS2 for an hour or two after school. It's a testament to the strenght of that social experience that the game had such an impact even though, to this day, I've never actually played it online.

I think TPM is missing a Han Solo styled Doubting Thomas.
Han was great in ANH so say "Force? Whatever, we have a job to do". Because that's what the audience is feeling. What's this Force junk? Why does it matter? I don't know anything about that.

TPM dives right into the Force and there's never a moment of doubt for anyone involved. You may say Watto fills that role, but Watto feels like a fool and is generally a bad guy. Han's doubts however is a bit flattering as this sexy charming guy is the audience avatar instead of, possibly, Watto

That was kinda the point in-universe, old canon had it that a lot of the Trade Federation and CIS droid designs were commissioned by a race of bug people that patterned them off of native predators. I like it, it makes the Droid Army distinct from generic worker droids and makes their designs a little more consistent with each other, so they actually look like they belong together in an army.

You again? I thought I roasted your deluded ass weeks ago. Foundation is about as influential to Star Wars as Tarzan. In fact, Tarzan is probably more influential, because Edgar Rice Burroughs' planetary romance in the form of John Carter ACTUALLY influenced Lucas, as opposed to the volumes of inscrutably mind-numbing jargon-rattling that comprises Isaac Anal-retentive's works.

What's wrong with it being the designated bomber? Bombers are just as important as any other fighter craft. In lore it really is slower and generally shittier than the X-Wing, it makes sense that the Rebellion would relegate their surplus of older and shittier ships to more dangerous jobs than their small number of technologically advanced craft. Clone Wars even introduced it into canon as a new Republic bomber craft.

How exactly?
I'm telling you that it's not Rogue Squadron's fault, they did that in the games since near the start man.
>>
>>94416398
There have only been two instances of "vertical" bombs being deployed from a Y-wing in canon, and that's the EMP bomb on Malastare, and the strafe on Eadu. All the rest were direct fire "torpedoes" (missiles).

>>94416443
They weren't dedicated bombers in X-wing or TIE fighter games, and in fact the first Rogue Squadron games didn't treat them too badly, but the second one and the books really went all out on the meme-ing.

Mainly because it was very good at it. It's a strike fighter, a fighter bomber, like a P38 or P47. It's hyperspace capable and can tough it out with capital ships like the Malevolence while blasting away its vulture droid defenders.

The fact that it's used in dogfights at all is the operative statement, not its indeterminate but presumable 1:1 or less kill ratio.

Again, this has nothing to do with the statement that it can be used for strafing or bombing, as the overwhelming majority of real world fightercraft are, or that it's better at that task than dogfighting, again, as a great many real world fighter craft have been put to use. but as a rebuttal against the fallacious claim disproven in every canon appearance of the craft going as far back as 1977 (earlier if you count first drafts) that it is NOT a capable fighter at all, which simply isn't true.

TFA was not close to as shit as STID was.
TFA made logical sense along its plot
What everyone did made sense
It was cheap and stupid
But it made sense.

BB8 had the Death Star plans. Rey got the plans. Luke carried the plans to Yavin IV. The Rebellion mounted an attack on the Death Star and Poe Dameron shot a proton torpedo into the core to destroy the weapon.

It made sense.
STID couldn't even do that.
It tried to copy WoK but it failed hard

>>
>>94416922
Okay, I'll give you that. But, to my second point, at least it didn't lie to everyone like Into Darkness did.

The whole reason the "Snoke is Plagueis" theory even started is that we had a run of high-profile nerd shit where the cast, the crew, the directors, and the production staff just flat-out lied to viewers.

First, in Into Darkness, everyone lied and said that Cumberbatch wasn't playing Khan. Then he was!
Then, a few years later, in the Bond movie Spectre, everyone lied and said that Waltz wasn't playing Blofeld. Then he was!
Then, in that very year's season of Game of Thrones, everyone lied and said that Jon Snow was dead for good. Then he wasn't!

Just outright falsehood. You can't really blame anyone for not taking producers and such seriously about things any more when they're willing to lie through their teeth. At least in the past they used to be shifty and misdirect rather than straight-up lie.
>>
>>94417051

Qui-Gon is easily definable under his criteria.
Wise, independent minded and not afraid to get his hands dirty for causes he deems worth it.

Bruh they literally lied about Finn being a Jedi. Everyone knew Rey was going to be the Jedi, it was painfully obvious, but the marketing was 100% focused on Finn weilding the lightsaber, showing both his scenes with it, and not a single hint of Rey with it. Even the initial toys reflected this.

It was borderline manipulative racism. I'd be pissed if I was a respectable negro fan.

>>94417199

In his Nemesis review, Mike says that the picard hair photo scene shows the filmmakers contempt for the audience, but he sucks off The Wrath of Khan even though it had the scene where Chekov, the only cast member who wasn't in season 1, is the one the filmmakers pick to react to the Botany Bay like we're supposed to think he was there in the space seed episode.
If the the filmmakers cared in the way Mike says that nemesis doesn't, they wouldn't have used the ONE guy who wasn't one the show, regardless of whether or not he could have been serving on in the ship at that time.

Same issue that plagues everything Mike talks about.

>>94417202
Nah it wasn't because he was black

But it's not the same problem?
The problem with Nemesis is that the filmmaker can't possibly believe that the audience can believe that Tom Hardy is young Picard if he has hair.
As if lack of hair was the only thing that made Picard, Picard.

The Chekov thing is, at worst, a retcon or an ignorance of TOS.
There are plenty of reasonable things, like if Chekov was just a crewman at the time instead of a proper officer.
It's not the exact same fault, like you're implying

Yes, Chekov being the recognized person is a fault since he did not show up during Botany Bay, but it isn't insulting like Young Picard must be bald

P38 wasn't just a dedicated interceptor, it flew all sorts of sorties from escort duty, bombing, recon, etc, just like the y-wing, and it's even got the same planform
additionally, Y-wing is straight-line fast, it competes with standard TIEs and is just as good as the X-wing, its weaknesses are in maneuverability - P38J can reach a 600 mph dive but it ain't dogfighting with Messerschmitts or Kawasakis at that speed
>>

just being human doesn't make someone relateable.
>>
>>94417877
Stupid answer.
Everyone is human.
That's like saying a movie about Charles Manson has him as the protagonist just because he's human.

A protagonist is something we relate to on a personal level.
We understand what they feel and want them to succeed

Luke was a great protagonist because he was just a kid and wanted greatness.
We understood that and why he went along with Ben and Han

>A protagonist is something we relate to on a personal level.

Are you implying Qui-gon doesn't fit the bill?

http://www.friesian.com/starwars.htm
>Liam Neeson (Qui-gon Jinn), Natalie Portman (Queen Amidala), and Jake Lloyd (Anakin Skywalker) are perfect and convincing in their roles. Neeson is what we always needed to see about a mature, functioning Jedi, going about the business of defending peace and justice [note]. He does it most convincingly, right from the beginning, as we might expect from the man responsible for the portrayal of Oscar Schindler. We see quite a bit more of Neeson in Phantom than we did of Alec Guiness in the original Star Wars. Qui-gon is basically present and in charge of most of the action for most of the movie. We become familiar with him in many circumstances and come to know him as a tall, commanding, confident, and noble but also fatherly figure (note the graying hair). Perhaps after many years of Homer Simpson, Ed Bundy, and contempt for the 50's ethos of Father Knows Best, it is hard for critics to recognize a real father figure again. This is no buffed up Rambo and certainly no "wooden character," nor, as McCarthy says, "a basically stolid guy with only moderate charisma." No way. At key moments Qui-gon is even notable for his affection: touching on the shoulder with concern and protection Anakin's mother (caressing with his thumb), Anakin (with both hands, twice), and Padme (during the pod race), and in the end, while dying, lovingly touching the cheek of Obi-Wan.
>>
>>94417942

Ecplain what you think is bad about Neeson.

>>
>>94418001
>>94418022
I am saying that.

Qui Gon is a static character.
He is already himself when the movie starts and he is the exact same as the movie ends.
I'm not saying he is a bad charactre.
I quite like him. I like him a lot, even if Neeson ignored most of George's direction.

A protagonist needs an arc. To be different from the start to the end.
Qui Gon is the same from the start till he dies
>>
>>94418075
The problem was never Neeson.
Better job is defined as doing a job to a higher degree of competence or quality.

Where was the "character development" and "arc" and "change" of the protagonists of the greatest movie of all time? These things are marks of good fiction, but they are the components thereof. Great characters can start out great and remain great at the end, as long as they're part of a well-written plot.

>>

>>94418290
All you guys seem to be confusing arc with development.

Arc is the path they take through the story, and as the main character that tends to be the story.
Character development is how the character's attitudes and beliefs are changed or informed by their journey.
A main character does not need character development, especially if the story is how he goes through the world and changes other characters. But they do need an arc, because if they have no story, why are we following them?

This doesn't change your guy'ses argument at all, but the fact that you keep saying "character arc" instead of "character development" is just annoying enough to make me post about it.

The Thing was about McCreedy's character giving up and losing.
Like the opening with him playing chess with the computer and he pours his drink down.
Just like he offers Keith David the drink
It was McCreedy being beat and finally accepting it.

STII was about Kirk learning how to lose. Everything about the movie was about him never knowing the "No Win" scenario.
He cheated on the Kobayashi Maru test. He can't lose.

There's a fictitious interview around claiming Carpenter said Childs was the thing because you couldn't see him breathing, even though no such record of an interview exists outside of a copypasta on /tv/, and even though you can, in fact, see him breathe and see his exhalation mist on screen if you scry past the poor lightning and short cuts. There IS however evidence concerning John Carpenter's desire to make a sequel starring both Keith David and Kurt Russell who had survived and been rescued.

They would have known the chancellor was on board because everyone knew Grievous kidnapped him and planned to broadcast him signing a surrender treaty, but it was irrelevant because the Invisible Hand moved forward to engaging distance precisely because they expected the Republic ships not to unleash their full batteries, and the men aboard the Guarlara that happened to be there couldn't just let themselves be killed and had no choice but to exchange fusillade
>>
>>94420885
The ROTS novelization actually addresses this. The venator's captain (a young Needa of all people) opens a comm channel to Grievous and demands to see the chancellor. At that point the Jedi had already freed Sheev so Grievous is kind of left holding the bag and isn't even sure where on the ship they are yet, so he can't prove anything. That's when the venator begins firing.

Who knows what the actual canon explanation is, though.

Whether or not Foundation is a inspiration to Star Wars, I think everyone with a partially sci-fi oriented mind should read it
It's a great of the genre
Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG, whatever
Asimov was one of the trailblazers, and Foundation was his magnum opus.
Yes, all his characters are autistic professionals, but still, it's worth the read at least for the context in which Star Wars was born.
Maybe George (somehow, despite making references to the Foundation), never read Asimov, people in 77 still went into theatres having read the Foundation.

New one by far.

The Thrawn Trilogy has a lot of problems.
>>
When Qui Gon and Obi Wan were fighting Maul, why didn't Obi Wan use Speed Force to catch up to Qui Gon and Maul?
>>
>>94422000
The ONLY time in Star Wars canon (and probably not canon anymore) that your statement has been even remotely true was in KotOR 2. And you can thank Chris Avellone's gray morality boner for that one. Lucas was never one for that sort of theme.
>>
>>94422051
The new novel does a much better job of portraying Thrawn as intelligent. The glimpses into his thought process and how he observes details really sell the idea. It's a pretty good character study.

The old ones meanwhile are a nice adventure story but Thrawn pulls a lot of shit out of his ass.

It's not about evil. It's about them not being on the right path anymore.
From the opening scene of TPM we are introduced to the idea that Yoda is not neccessarily the be all end all of wisdom, by having Qui-Gon correct Obi about Yoda's advice.
As the movie progresses we see that Qui-Gon is in the right, not least because we already know from RotJ than Anakin does bring balance while the council can't see Qui Gon sees. This theme is continued in AOTC with the Jedi's refusal to consider that Dooku is the assassin. The Jedi are arrogant and set in their ways, Yoda can see the arrogance, but is still trapped in his ways, all in contrast to Qui-Gon's free spiritedness.

The Jedi are also as I said too invested in saving the republic as opposed to being aligned with what is truly right. You can see it throughout the trilogy as they make their base of operations 5 feet from the seat of galactic corruption.
Padme address this theme in RotS
>what if the republic has become the very evil we've been fighting to destroy

That's a primer. The movies are run through with this stuff though, all the way to Qui Gon's training being Yoda's final advice to Obi Wan.
