I'm reflexively making the point that we're living in economically miserable times and I wish everyone was appropriately (vocally) depressed about it, but at the moment I'm actually stunned that I'm not depressed anymore and just kind of left in shock.

But still, we should be miserable. Everything being terrible isn't so bad, it's the smiley faces that turns "keep calm and carry on" to "Hello, EasyJet? Get me to Dignitas."

We have far better than what BTTF predicted we'd have, including access to all the world's collective knowledge at our fingertips, pocket computers that duplicate the effects of what would be thousands of dollars of static equipment back then, ready access to satellite imagery for mundane purposes, incredibly advanced CGI technology to the point that video games and movie special effects are now basically lifelike, and we even have armies of flying robots to kill our enemies with missiles. Flying cars and self-lacing shoes are just gimmicks. Flying cars in particular are inherently implausible and inefficient no matter how advanced we get.
>>
>>94399886
>Flying cars in particular are inherently implausible and inefficient no matter how advanced we get.
Flying Cars is like food pills, a solution to a problem that don't exist in the present.

Food pills were dreamed up because cooking took too long. But we invented TV dinners and microwaves that solved the original problem. Flying Cars were dreamed up because people had to meet face to face to do anything. But we invented the Internet and Skype that meant physically leaving the house becomes borderline optional.
>>
>>94399969
uh, no. Flying car isn't a solution to a problem. It's a fucking awesome Flying car and I wish i could have one regardless of its ability to solve any problem.

This is laughably overzealous.
There are countless books, particularly on rural interest topics, which haven't had their contents duplicated onto the internet and haven't been scanned.
The internet is full of blindspots and dead links: But worse, it's full of junk that you have to sift through to find the good stuff.

Then again I do have a huge bias towards flashy technology (Concorde) over practical technology that I don't really care for (Smartphones.)

The same applies with any collection of knowledge. Even in a normal library, there would be books that are seriously out of date and are considered incorrect, but no library would remove them just because of that. The knowledge hunter has the responsibility of knowing when they found something useful.

Working 20 hours a week is entirely possible, the problem is that workers become a liability rather than an asset, so instead of paying people more for being productive, the CEOs take the extra money for themselves as bonuses. The idea of rewarding hard work is no longer valid because the job market is tight. You work harder not for better pay but for the privilege of not being fired.

They make conversion kits consisting of velcro straps attached to loops that go through the lace-holes. Look into that.

>>94411079
Unfortunately that's probably one of the big reasons more everyday adult shoes don't have them. Basic cosmetic associations. Boots and specialty footwear can get away with it, but for sneakers and most formal shoes I can think of, people are going to think you're a dipshit if they have straps.

>>94422186
Seems obvious to me. Shoelaces would make for handy garotes, or ways for prisoners to hang themselves.

>Allegedly jewish guy spanks his monkey during a shitty animated movie.

Pfft. If it were me I would buy the ticket early, dress up in blackface and go to the theater while talking in an offensive african american accent during the movie. Or maybe get the ticket, get some fried chicken fingers at the concession stand, paint myself in the bathroom stall, and than walk go to the theater.

Actually, libraries do throw away outdated shit all the time, just at an extremely slow rate because they don't have enough budget to replace everything with new shit, and because a library with mostly empty book cases looks depressing.

That is either a clip from one of the film adaptations of the musical Fiddler on the Roof. Or it's just a dude who looks like a Russian Jewish Famer holding his arms out. It's about a poor rural Jewish Farmer, his family, his relationship with his wife and daughters, and his daughters one after another breaking with tradition amid cultural tensions and eventually their small community being ousted from Russia.

One of the songs early on is about the comfort and security of Tradition. The joke being made about older men, possibly older Jewish men, jacking it in movie theaters inappropriately.

People never learn, to this day I still see articles about how awesome life is going to be in a few decades. If only people would stop think about the future so much and focus on improving the present then maybe we wouldn't be so disappointed all the time.
