Sadly, my first Star Wars movie was The Phantom Menace in theaters when I was 10. I had a passing knowledge of Star Wars beforehand but I wasn't really a fan. I saw Episode II in theaters three years later and loved it, and around that time is when I went back and watched the old movies and became a massive fan overall.

My dad had the OT on DVD, and then TPM when it came out.
I loved them all. Then he got AotC and I was fucking impressed.

I saw my first Star Wars movie in theaters when I was 7 years old. Revenge of The Sith absolutely floored me.
I mean just blew me away.
I remember Padme's Ruminations in particular mesmerizing me.

I didn't find out that the PT wasn't loved like the OT for a few more years after that, and I still don't comprehend it at all.

ESB was my probably least favorite as a kid. But I enjoyed it.

I was 10 when I saw ROTS and it was probably one of the most profound and impactful experiences of my entire life. Me and my buddy both cried during order 66, and when Anakin burned alive. I firmly believe it is what solidified me as a lifelong Star Wars fan.

George Lucas achieved exactly what he set out to do; Tell the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, and give kids the rich and emotional storytelling that is so crucial for us at that age.

I saw bits an pieces of each film before ROTS when I was little. Nothing really tied me over. Then I saw ROTS when I was 8 and fucking loved it. I got really into the story and rewatched all the films that week.

Honestly I can't fault kids for liking TFA. A lot of them have never seen the originals so while the nostalgia factor doesn't work on them, it also means they don't realize how derivative it is.

I hope a lot of the kids you see running around in Rey and Kylo costumes do wise up later in life, though.

Pretty sure I saw RotJ first on VHS, and was somehow completely unaware that there were MORE films until way later when dad got the full trilogy set (why he only had RotJ I will never know because I doubt even he remembers). This was a long time ago so I have no idea how old I was, but had to have been less than 7 based on when the special editions hit theaters.

I sort of loathe upgrading the AAT and a few other units because they start looking worse. At least they had the right idea for the AT-ST and had the funky prototype version upgrade into the proper film version. Even better was how the rebel fighter upgraded from the Z-95 to the X-wing. At the same time it was kinda silly how the empire would upgrade all their standard TIEs into a swarm of Defenders.

I decided to go find my manuals (remember when those were still relevant?) for the game so I could remember all the strange evolutions. I forgot one of the most basic ones: at some point, ALL your infantry carry around massive repeating blasters that they have to set up before use. While functionally amazing (that rate of fire is stupendous) it's kind of silly that every single infantryman would carry around a crew-served weapon.

The game (and its expansion) in general suffers a bit from the mid-prequel design problem: nobody knew hat the second (and later third) movie would hold, so they had to guess what would be important. The Trade Federation and CIS are separate factions (so CIS doesn't get B1s, vultures, and so on), the CIS building style is pure Genosian, CIS fighters are all Genosian, the Gungans and the Naboo are full-fledged factions (though the Gungans end up being the most unique faction because medics can heal practically every unit and building), and so on. The original Battlefront game suffer some of the same problems, though less pronounced because they came into play between II and III.

Despite all these minor quibbles, none of it detracts from the gameplay (it's all purely world setting/graphical), which is a fun AOE2 clone.

Man I forgot how video games some of these upgrades were ("we need a new unit for gameplay purposes" "just throw some shit onto a canon thing and call it new").

I remember playing as the Trade Federation and loving it. They didn't have to build houses, workers could repair any unit and the tanks were fantastic. Spamming droidekas who shit on mostly everything plus had their own shield healthbar was rad.

Only shitty problem was that no shields on vulture droids meant that every scuffle with enemy starfighters was an automatic loss.

Of everything I disliked in that game, that was the second thing I hated the most.

Somehow I never noticed this.

I had to check if the AT-ST ancestor was only in Galactic Battlegrounds (because if so that would mean they are pulling from pretty obscure sources, giving hope that my favorite starfighter can be canon again) so I went to the dark hole that is the wook to confirm. I don't know why I am surprised, but they have a page for EVERY unit. Anyway, it turns out the "light AT-ST" (as it's called in SW:BG) first appeared as the AT-AR in some comic ("The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell") and was based on Joe Johnston's concept art for Empire.

My parents forced me to watch the original trilogy on VHS as a kid. I utterly hated it outside of small instances like the jabba's palace section of RotJ or luke's lightsaber duels (to this day, I still don't give a single fuck about any of the space battles aside the brief one at the start of episode 3). They also forced me to go see the prequels when they came out in theaters and I wasn't a fan of those either. I only willingly started to watch and enjoy star wars with RotS; by which time I started to appreciate and rather enjoy ESB and RotJ as full films, but never really cared much for the original whatsoever.

Made the connection. Right after asked my sister for her special edition boxed set. She never saw it again. And that's when I fell in love with the franchise. Bough BF/BFII,played the shit outta them and the rest is history.

General consensus from fans and critics there was the OT was not as grand as the prequels, and the OT special effects and story were all things they had "seen before" by the time the OT had released for them.

I posted this in an earlier thread, but this is how I rank the canon Star Wars movies and shows on the scale of 1 to 5 lightsabers. The lightsaber scale doesn't judge them as standalone movies, but as Star Wars movies - how well they fit the world, the lore it provides, and the overall quality when compared to the rest of the series, etc. 1 is the lowest, 5 is the highest, and there are no half points.

I should clarify that the lightsaber scale isn't necessarily the same as an average 1 - 5 star scale, it just judges them as Star Wars movies. If given the opportunity to judge them as just movies as a whole, I would probably consider TFA more entertaining than The Phantom Menace, but as a Star Wars movie, it falls flat. Does that make sense?

I'd argue that everything George made should get 5 Lightsabers by default.

Rebels and Rogue One have both lovingly grown out of Lucas's world, and also get 5 Lightsabers from me.

The Force Awakens is the odd duck, that gets 2 Lightsabers from me. (And only because the showhorned OT imigary makes it "iconic" enough to look, at least, like Star Wars)
