I feel like I've seen this at least couple times before, but honestly maybe it's because I used to go to a small private school and sometimes the gym teacher would be an asshole and do a boys vs girls gym thing despite knowing that there were more able bodied boys (and more boys in the class in general) versus girls. The Red Ribbon Army arc in the original Dragonball ended somewhat like that. Staff Officer Black, who was Commander Red's #2 but basically just an assistant, found out that Red's wish on the Dragonballs would have been to become taller.

Black is furious that his boss would waste his soldiers' lives over something so stupid instead of fighting for world domination, so he puts a bullet in Red's head. He ends up being the real final villain of the arc and ends up in a mech to fight Goku.

I just love the idea aswell, of a character being gay but it's something that's literally rarely seen/referred to and when it is it's really not that big of a deal.

I remember there was this sitcom (not /co/ i know) about British paramedics, and the pilot episode featured them going through an 'Up, Horny, Down' period after some really gorey call.
One of the three main characters basically called someone from Cragislist during their Horny phase and when the knock at the door came it turns out it was a big black dude. They even got a few jokes in, but it struck me because the guy in question wasn't camp, he wasn't in any way obviously gay. It just turns out he was.
That's stuck with me, it was fantastic.
