Well Arkham is a manor repurposed, and as various plots surrounding Wayne Manor and the Gotham Academy series show, the old Gotham manors are full of of hidden passages and various other secrets. Of course this is never really adressed with Arkham and writers just seem to have decided its a revolving door.

I love it when it gets subverted though, when it turns out they've known all along and were just helping because that's what friends are for. The real issue with that whole thing is that the conflict was pretty interesting, with Aang having to choose whether to follow his own moral code, or to discard it for the greater good, but then it gets solved in the most unsatisfying way possible and he ends up not having to make that decision at all.

This trope gets a pass when the heroes have actually just gotten that much stronger, or the villains were only originally a threat due to a one time strength/the heroes not knowing a secret weakness. Otherwise, it just feels like a waste of villains and makes everyone's strength feel les consistent.

When no rank and file soldiers survive an encounter. When the heroes essentially are responsible for killing every enemy.

Even worse if it is some great evil that has been waiting to strike, and when they do not a single soldier can kill one of theirs. Can't 3 or so gang up on one bad guy? If the defending soldiers are so shit, why did the enemy bother waiting?

I watched the terrible Ironclad film and at the end of course only the few main characters were alive. I mean sure for the big bad barbarian antagonist have him more powerful but the rank and file couldn't get a single kill.

They only do this because the writers are hacks who can't write about them since their flaws aren't as obvious. The fans ignore them because they aren't "interesting". Your shitty snarky character is only "interesting" because of the nice characters he gets to play off of. If he was by himself, everybody would realize how shitty they are. Seriously, what's with the French and fears of consequences? Both Code Lyoko and Miraculous Ladybug have that atrocious shit. At least CL eventually wised up and introduced the fact that abusing resets led to XANA growing stronger and more cunning so they had to think twice before pushing the button in later seasons, but it's still a fucking awful Deus Ex

It feels like an easy cop-out for making a villain appear actually threatening without having to create some movie-long explanation to how the writers crawl themselves out of the hole they dug.

Having god-modding villains make for a compelling story, but they have to shorten that shit into a 15-minute time slot. No way are the protagonists going to solve it that fast without pulling something out of their asses

I love the Liar's Reveal, but only when the reaction is justified.

Having everyone bitch at a character over a stupid, inconsequential white lie or some inane misunderstanding is maddening. Worst recent example is that Gravity Falls "Roadside Attraction" episode where Dipper is treated like the anus of Satan for... getting girls' email addresses? Having confidence in himself? It's not entirely clear, and it's only resolved when Dipper prostrates himself to beg Candy for her forgiveness. Fuck that episode.

But if it's an actual, damning lie and the consequences have been building the whole film/show? That is some juicy drama, my man.

>villain is evil just because
I kinda like it, its true some people are simply evil just because and then there is the whole they dont care if they die or not aspect
but its lazy and sometimes its used to make the hero look like some spineless fag and add unnecessary drama

"It occurs to me that an awful lot of trouble in Gotham City could have been averted a long time ago if Batman had just ripped the Joker’s nipples off.

I mean, treatment doesn’t work, does it? They stick the Joker in the nuthatch, he comes out again and does the same things.

A man with the nipples ripped off him does not make the same mistakes twice.

Criminals are a superstitious, cowardly lot, and need the nipples ripped off them.

I mean, who’s going to argue?

“Batman, I’ve heard disturbing reports that you ripped the Joker’s nipples off.”

“Choke on my fuck, Commissioner Gordon.”

“…okay.”

I mean, crime in Gotham City doesn’t exactly seem to be affected by a man dressed as a bat flapping around the place. But no-one disobeys a man wearing a necklace of human nipples.

“I’m Batman” isn’t cutting it in the striking-fear-into-their-hearts stakes. But “I’m Batman — and I’m here for your nipples” is an entirely different proposition.

Criminals would see the error of their ways after a man in a black leather pervert suit had their nipples off with the edge of a Batarang, you mark my words. Or a Bat-Denipplizer."

The villain knows everything about whatever exposition the heroes just got.
Pick related
There's no way this fucker could have known about the comet traped on the other side of a dimensional rift that only Voltron could pass through.

bad example
they already knew about it before voltron got there, at one point the beefy girl says something like "I liked watching all the ships we sent in there blow up"
also, it was lotor who sent the distress signal in the first place in order to lure them there

I have no issue with them being there. I have no issue with them luring voltron there.
There's no way they should have known the contents of the ship or that the other side of the portal was an alternate reality. As shown by the paladins any probe sent to investigate got destoryed.
and if they knew the comet was in that ship, why the fuck didn't the galra have a station/research ship there trying to get the comet to build their own voltron. They literally had 10,000 years to figure it out

Here's a few
>I'll never forgive you
Largely /a/ based but it's happened in /co/ a few times. I feel like this phrase alone sets me off. Dunno why.

>Character does a THING that is perfectly justifiable and, maybe done in not-the-best-way, isn't super terrible. But everyone fucking hates him now and can't stand talking to him
This shit here. Best example I can think of is Batman from Justice League when he did their weaknesses.
Added bonus!
>When after the shit above the main cast decide "Look dood sorry, want back in?" And then the character says "Fuck off I'm gone".
Again from Justice League. Shazam after all the shit with Superman.

Not a quote but I've always hated when characters mistrust a friend who's doing something shady and resort to beating the hell out of them at the drop of a hat instead of trying to figure out what's going on. When they know a character for so long, the fact that they're suddenly doing something bad should tip them off that somethings wrong, not that the character is now a bad guy.

I finished the season and you were right.
though i still think that there's no reason the galra weren't putting all efforts into getting that rock if they knew about its existence.
So they either knew it was there and made no effort to get it (seems unlikely given the last episode) or they just discovered it and instantly knew what was on the other side simply bcause the heroes learned it.

Except the Supernatural world changes them. For good or for better once you're exposed to that kind of thing it leaves a lasting effect on you. It's not about running away from your problems it's about coming to terms with what you've become.
