Just because it was printed in issues doesn't make it not a graphic novel. Novels are divided into chapters and in the past have even been printed in chapters in anthology magazines.

It's a graphic novel. It has a beginning, middle and end. Compare to Moore's Swamp Thing or LoEG which has overarching development but is not a single story on its own, just many stories featuring the same characters and setting.

"Comics" refers to anything formatted as sequential art, like how "film" refers to anything recorded on film. "Graphic novels" are a type of comics, like how movies are a type of film. You're not extra smart for not using these terms, just like other people are not smart for only using these terms.
