Honestly after reading "Dropped off and never picked up again" i would hope it's just a from-the-perspective-of-the-children or a "GOTCHA, FUCKER" from the author.

- They will and do actually get picked up again; it's just seperation anxiety

And don't give me "but the bad memories of their homelives were exaggerated." Their personal views on their past and the flashbacks we see don't match up. Malachi doesn't blame his mom for having unreasonable expectations of him- he really believes he was always the problem. There's even a plot point where Seventeen takes magical drugs that make her flashbacks horrifically accurate and force her for the first time to confront the fact she was abandoned and her family never liked her, whereas during the events leading up to her abandonment she was in denial.

Whew, my fucking soul.
This actually happened to me during an elementary school nature trail run. Somehow i ended up either behind or ahead of the group i was supposed to be part of and basically panicked, ran forward on the trail, and met my supposed "group" (fuck you all) apparently in the middle and had to wait for the rest of the group to catch up.
I can't remember how long i was actually out-of-sight but i was definitely crying as hard as i was horrified of the situation. I could've easilly ran off the trail into the woods and died.

Guess where i work and guess what's happened 3 times since the start of this year, as far as days that i've worked goes.

Oh but don't worry, their parents were still there and were totally allowed to continue being ignorant pieces of shit who will continue to ignore their children until it's too late.

Two were poo-in-loos so i'm not surprised by their garbage (their kids are always screaming anyways) but other one was literally the "Blonde white girl" meme come to life, on one of the more intense days, where basically 20+ people were there at check-out and only i happened to respond to that "OH SHIT WHERE'S MOMMY" crying.
Because i fucking made that sound on that fucking nature trail.

There isn't really one.
The world they set up just doesn't really work for a happy ending.
I mean atleast not one that works as an end all for their story.
Best case scenario is the kids somehow figure out a system where they're living in total squalor with unresolved hidden issues and trauma. But there's no "they get off the island" scenario that really leaves them in a good place. Either they go back to their shitty homes, get put into the system, or they're uneducated adults.

Though I guess that's the beauty of the formula, there's no reason for them to get off the island. The comic isn't supposed to be realistic. And it's not telling some overarching plot. It's just little bittersweet character moments of these kids.

They do seem to age. Linus and Seventeen both look a lot younger in their flashbacks to when they were dropped off. Brian looks a little younger in his too. The time period of the events of the comic itself (ie, Malachi's stay) can only really be measured in how long it's taken Malachi to grow his hair out twice, which wouldn't be long enough for other visible signs of aging in kids this age.
