#84 was the issue that was on stands when Kennedy died. The next issue, #85, was the first issue of 1964, and the table of contents and masthead debuted an accordingly redesigned and updated look for Mad in the "Great Society" it was now setting the trend for in humor.
Wally Wood resigned from illustrating for Mad in mid-1964. For one and a half years, none of the original EC artists contributed to Mad until Jack Davis's re-recruitment in late 1965. But for that span of issues, Mad Magazine still continued to evolve in its wit and satire, its willingness to experiment in its articles, and the fine-tuning of the eventual star attractions of Mad: the movie and TV parodies.
Let me tell you, I cannot WAIT till we get to the 1966, 1967, and 1968 issues. Those are going to be really fun...
