Speaking as someone who doesn't believe in God and loves "edgy" stuff a lot. Preacher was still kind of shit.

Jessie wasn't exactly squeaky clean enough to have the moral high ground over Cassidy.

Also Transmetropolitan blows vBulletin preacher out of the water as far as satire comics go.

Preacher really fell off when Ennis decided Cassidy should be a villain and completely changed his character and history.

I don't think Preacher has a complicated message, but it's a fun ride if you don't cringe at the more edgier parts.

Also, Dillons art is amazing and lends Preacher a lot of quality.
