ART THREAD FAGGOTS GET YOUR ASSESS IN HERE AND DRAW
Still an incompetent weeb
>>94314937
I don't need you to tell me to draw, Batman
Been trying to do these small, simple, sorta-chalk-type doodles lately when I'm feeling stressed, depressed or whatever in the hopes that drawing how I feel will help me get over it.
It hasn't really helped any, but I guess it's better to draw this stuff than just sitting at my desk doing nothing.
>>94314937
FINE JEEZ
>tfw house work and roof work keeps from having any free time.
I fucking hate being 27 and shit at drawing.

>>94315818
This looks good man, I always loved stuff like this. How did you do it?
>>94314937
Did this a few days ago, fucked the perspective up
>>94315475
Don't rely on fancy brushes and textures for your shading, especially when your fundamentals are already so shaky. Do some shading studies to better understand how light wraps around various forms. Try reading Hampton's Figure Drawing, Invention, and Design, there's a lot of stuff in there that could help you.
>>94316220
Thanks.
I just use a black canvas and a white chalk brush.
I draw out the basic shapes, and as I add highlights or light sources, I erase away parts of the original sketch to create implied shapes where I can. I usually finish with little details like the braille on the pill box or the numbers on the pills since doing those earlier can interfere with the lighting, if there is any.
I haven't drawn in years. I think I used to be better. Not sure I could be much worse.
Enjoy some OC draws

Thanks, and cute animation and character design. Are you the same person who makes the collage girls?
>>94317161
Thanks, though unfortunately I still got a lot of practice to do before I can actually figure out how to easily fix these things
>>94317274
Hey, thanks! Glad other people think I'm improving, even if I have my doubts about that fact. Is my art really distinct enough for people to recognize it as mine?
>>94317479
Really cute style and characters, though I feel the limbs and hands look a bit flat and shapeless.
>>94318192
yep, i'm the collage girl person! and thank ya!

It's all about the illusion of momentum, anon. Look up some old Looney Tunes animations, pause whenever they stop after moving, and you'll really get an idea of how it works. Better yet, try it yourself and feel how your weight shifts as you run and stop.
Doodles from work
Never really thought much about how the muscles of a four-armed person might look, and when I went to draw it, I realized I had no clue how it might be done. Shoulders work because they're on top, and having it just stick out without any kind of joint would look kind of weird.

Cute stuff, love the designs.
does drawing with a tablet ever start to feel good, as it stands id rather draw with a mouse
>>94330527
In my experience it never feels good, but you get used to it eventually. I still find it much more comfortable to draw with a pencil but when it comes to ZBrush sculpting there's nothing that feels more natural than a tablet.
>>94330527
Don't worry anon, it usually takes a few months to get used to it but it's totally worth it. It really speeds up your work. Also try graphic programs with stablizers like SAI or Photoshop with Lazy nezumi plug. Brush strokes will be less jagged, which will make your art look better

>>94330726
>it usually takes a few months
fucking hell anon, ill take your word for it, since it either draw mediocre with a mouse forever or maybe draw good with a tablet in the future
I keep drawing in chickenscratch, but I don't know whether it's due to a lack of confidence. Like I'm not sure what shape it is I'm visualizing that I want to draw.
Has anyone else here been through this, or is it just me overthinking things?
God fucking dammit. It always happens, it always fucking happens, that when I sit down and think, "Today, I'm going to draw X, exactly like this," it never fucking turns out right and I always get frustrated. Fuck me, why does it always happen?
>>94331981
that pretty much covers me over the past 2 years. And seeing other people improve and succeed over that time makes me frustrated and depressed even more.
>>94331981
it doesnt get better
>>94330164
Ayy thanks fampai
>>94331981
Don't just say you're going to draw something today, draw every day. Do studies, figure drawing, gesture drawing, environments, doodles, just keep on drawing. Much of improving your art is just getting the mileage in, if your drawing doesn't turn out right draw it again, do some studies of relevant materials, practice whatever you need to, and keep on trying.
>>94331888
You'll grow out of it as you get better. IMO the best way to deal with your issue is to take things slow and construct the shapes with a soft pencil or transparent layer, and then build on that when you have a good looking shape. There's also no shame in going over the same line multiple times trying to get the right one. Just avoid the uncertain nature of the chicken scratch and start working on that confidence.
Do you line drawing exercises. straight lines, loops, circles, ovals... Chicken scratch will disappear over time. And with experience and skill your visualization skills will improve.
>>94331981
Because that's just not how the human mind works, anon. As perfect and complete as your vision may appear in your mind, it's not there. You can look at a picture of someone and count the wrinkles around their eyes, but you can't picture your grandmother and count her wrinkles in your mind.
Again, with experience and skill, your visualization will get better, and you'll get better at putting down what you have in mind on the canvas. But you'll just have to learn to work around the limitations of the human brain. There's a certain degree of improvisation to drawing, being able to fill the gaps when you encounter them.
Like >>94332108 says, it doesn't get better, but you learn to deal with it. Put your pencil on the paper, and see where it takes you. Happy little mistakes and all.
Here, have a doodle I did earlier. I wanted to draw a goat man. Everything kinda went from there.

I would suggest working on foundation stuff like getting forms and anatomy down before even THINKING about shading and coloring.

Anyone else having trouble finding an art style they like? I usually draw anime type things. But I want to try and draw some more cartoony type things as well. I've heard its good to examine other artists I like. But I can't really draw anything that feels like my own. It either looks like too much like a copy of what I'm drawing or I just don't like what I've drawn.
>>94352118
Do I fucking ever. I listened to ol' /ic/ for too long and all the posing knowledge in the world hasn't helped me come up with a quick/unique style - It's the one reason I haven't started my comic yet.
I guess I could use my normal style and be one of those authors who only releases one page a month.
>Current wip.
>>94352118
Copying your favourite artists is a good start. Soon you'll start adding your gimmicks to it, mixing a few styles together, changing original color palettes, etc. The only catch is, you have to draw a lot. And I mean A LOT. But don't worry, it will happen eventually
>>94352331
Thats good to know, I just wonder what else I could be doing, I guess I'll just keep drawing a lot of stuff in the meantime to practice.
What is it with looking at other people's work and success and immediately losing confidence to draw? Like I shouldn't even try anymore.
>>94352298
Stay away from /ic/... they are the wrong kind of "helpful".
I was drawing this but I hate it
I need some art advice
So far, I've pretty much abandoned the notion of making a web-cartoon out of practicality, so now I'm settling for making a web-comic. Even then, its difficult as I'm struggling to make a simple background.
Want it to look like the BGs in this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk7Idl51tNI
Any tips for a degenerate scrub such as myself?
>>94353198
You can always try the opposite: find some shitty drawing and redraw it. It can be your very old stuff or something from DA. With each time try to find something slightly better and better. When you'll build up your confidence enugh it'll be easier to progress further
>>94353308
Before going into details try to find the silhouette first. The best way is to make multiple little doodles. When you'll pick your best scale it up and then add details.
Also, try gesture drwing. It always makes poses look more natural
>>94353579
Really cute, anon.
