Hot steaming pile of nothing tonight.

Whatever. They can't all be hilariously terrible.

I guess the thread have been getting deleted lately. What's up with that?

Also anymore news on the next Slipshine?

Yeah, try again tomorrow Willis. Cause this shit is boring.

The password is "snippy" and Amber's hair is indeed ugly.

>>94290938
Not since the preview line-art sketch of the title.

I believe the last thread was deleted for veering too far into /pol/ territory. And we've already had issues with one of the janitors for these threads veering off-topic.

Here's something that's been on my mind: Do any of the relationships in "Dumbing of Age" feel genuine? That is, could you look at a couple like Danny and Amber or Walky and Dorothy and say "Well, they certainly look like they're in love with each other"? Because I don't ever really get that from any of the characters' interactions. It's almost as if they're just together because somebody wants them to be together.

Becky/Dina is probably the least realistic relationship in this regard.
>>
>>94291251
I think they see the samefags necrobumping them after noon when it's dead and get rid of it
>>
>>94291369
First of all,
>necrobumping
There has to be a better word for it.

Secondly, I will agree that bumps for the sake of keeping the thread alive aren't ideal. But I would suggest that posts made in reply to a point of discussion shouldn't be seen as "necrobumps", even if they're made when the thread is on Page 10.
>>
>>94291251
None of them feel like genuine "love" since we all know it's been a month, and they're mostly all college freshman who don't know love from a hole in a pillow.

Ruth/Billie feels like a genuine abusive lesbian relationship that could maybe happen given Ruth's position of power over Billie.

Walky/Dorothy also seems like a relationship that could happen if you took the illusion of actual love out of it. Why wouldn't the stressed-out overachiever want to release some tension on an inexplicably toned, caramel loser who she can ditch guilt-free at any time?

The rest just seem like pairings for pairings sake.
>>
>>94290859
>another character desperate not to become their parents
Wow so fresh

>>94291427
>>necrobumping
>There has to be a better word for it.
Just bumping. Posting to push a thread higher up the list is just bumping.

>But I would suggest that posts made in reply to a point of discussion shouldn't be seen as "necrobumps", even if they're made when the thread is on Page 10.
Yeah it's fairly slow after a few hours but that's only because these threads start so late.
>>
>>94291523

I feel like a lot of it just comes down to writing. Jacob and Raidah could work better as a pairing if they were explored as their own thing, instead of Willis just having them get together to make Sarah upset. (I don't remember if Raidah and Jacob were actually dating or were just friends).

Then again, this comic doesn't really need any more side plots.

Becky/Dina is prominent enough that ot should probably have been fleshed out better.
>>
>>94290859
Couldn't you just skip the strips where nothing happens? You know, save the threads for the rare event that the story's worthwhile?
>>
>>94290859
I wonder how many people Blaine has stabbed. Honestly, he's probably trying to aspire to be more like Amber if violence is his goal.

Ruth's father also cheated on his wife and likes ladies that Clint thinks Billie is similar to.

He did die in a car crash, though so I guess she's cross-universe destined to follow in his tire tracks.

Amber's dad showed up at the dorm and Amber fled through the halls from him. Ruth interceded and threw him.

And then there was this panel in the middle of the strips when Ruth was telling Amber about how her Dad got beaten up and sent to the hospital. I took it to be more about dealing with an injured parent, but if Ruth's dad was shitty, it could work on multiple levels.

But yeah, they haven't had a heart to heart beyond this, and Amber doesn't know the extend of Ruth's family situation.

I think Becky/Dina is probably the most realistically depicted relationship. It has that "want to be with that person all the time" mentality of early relationships but also doesn't seem like it is particularly deep, fitting a relationship that is something like 3 weeks old.

>>94294928
Ruth is genre-aware enough to know that if she brings up parental issues she'll hit the bullseye 90% of the time.

>>94296939
They veer off-topic.

I can understand the /pol/ stuff,
but discussions on what counts as self-defense were pretty pertinent to the current plot.

So it just me or has Willis gone off the deep end.

I never thought this comic was any good - the plot and dialogue are terrible and the writer keeps making people behave as if they constantly have the same knowledge as the author, but this is ridiculous.

This Amber chick had a psychotic break and tried to stab someone to death. She admitted to attempted murder. Not self-defense, not defense of another, attempted murder. As soon as that knife was in her hands the self-defense was over.

And the people around her are trying to make her feel better? Joyce glassing the guy was already pretty fucking sketchy considering how little she actually knew of the situation, but it made sense that there were no consequences because he wouldn't call the cops.

Why is Amber not in jail awaiting trial?

If someone comes at you with a knife and you take it and then proceed to pin them down and repeatedly stab them YOU GO TO JAIL

She is a danger to herself and others
>>
>>94297867

We weren't really shown the specifics of what Amber did, so we're probably supposed to assume it was judged as self-defense by the cops. Joyce glassing Ryan also made some sense, considering the guy basically outright said "You're gonna get raped" as rapists are wont to do apparently.

My problem is how boring its all gotten. I think, despite hating the comic for years now, the pacing is really starting to show. Nothing happens and what does happen is boring. Willis brags about his 3 month buffer but we still get what amounts to daily microscopic crumbs for the shit-cake that is this comic's story. Maybe he should start releasing 3 strips a day? Or double the size of his current strips?
>>
>>94297991
Oh the strip was always boring, don't know how you could've missed that

I'm just a little shocked by Willis' view towards casual violence.
>>
>>94297867
Isn't Amber based on the one he eventually married in real life? That would explain how she gets away with this, blackmail, and admitting to masturbating to Ninja Turtles.
>>
>>94298012
This shouldn't surprise anyone. Willis is a spiteful, vindictive human being, but one who is powerless to effect society and real people in any substantive way, so he channels his bitterness into his comic.

Um, no. There's no law that requires you to act with perfect measured force when you are in mortal danger from a knife wielding maniac. There was no premenitation and she was in genuine fear for her and Dorthy's life thats text book self defence. It's the same reasoning that protects police officers that use lethal force.
As for confessing, feeling guilty is pretty normal reaction in this kind of situation. Plus Amber has a tendency to see her own action in the worst possible light. It's not surprising she'd be beating herself up over it.
Altogether it's.... well, realistic is probably too strong a word. With in the realm of things that could happen in the real world at least
>>
Does anyone else ever think about how Danny got literally one crush on a guy and decided/realized he was bi?
>>
>>94298683
Kinda says a lot about the people who actually like this crap. I'm a little sad for Willis. We do our hate-mongering just for fun, but his livelihood essentially depends on it.

>>94298060
Yep! Once he met Maggie, he changed Amber from being just vaguely awkward into whatever this thing is.

>>94297859
And Amber didn't learn from this at all.

>I think Becky/Dina is probably the most realistically depicted relationship. It has that "want to be with that person all the time" mentality of early relationships but also doesn't seem like it is particularly deep, fitting a relationship that is something like 3 weeks old.
And at the same time, it doesn't feel realistic at all. But I guess it's the best we can do when everyone else's relationships are even stranger.
>>
>>94299466
I must be an idiot because I don't see them there?
>>
>>94297783
ORA ORA ORA ORA
>>
>>94301114
I'm not even sure how a Becky/Dina relationship would play out in real life. They're both socially stunted, Dina's on the spectrum, Becky's got a shitton of religious and sexuality issues, and outside dinosaurs their primary shared interest is that they validate each other's sexuality. It probably wouldn't make it through winter break in real life.
>>
>>94301374
The Dropbox document has all the pinups that we have. The ACO thread has some of the full stories. The DeviantArt has some of the free pinups released in the past, before Willis did Slipshine.

>>94301862
Yeah, they don't have much to go on. It's only been a few weeks, so there's plenty of time for it to go horribly wrong. But Willis feeds off the attention he gets when he does Dina/Becky stuff, so they're going to be together until the end of time.
>>
>>94301961
The current setup wouldn't be a bad place to have them grow and mature as people and as lovers. Dina is surrounded by peers who interact with her and is aware enough to notice when things are wrong in relationships, Becky's living with Leslie who, terrible taste in women aside, can point out that Becky is going through a honeymoon phase of both coming out and having a relationship. "I like vaginas and dinosaurs," is good enough to hook up, but unless they learn that relationships need attention, maintenance, and shared interests and experiences it won't work. Even if Willis wants to keep them on the backburner he should show them doing things together in the background. Have them go to a music venue, see a show, wander around the tailgaters during a football game, just something other than hanging around the campus.
>>
>>94301961
But I want to see Billie and/or Amber in canonical hanky-panky....
>>
>>94302313
With each other or just in general?
>>
>>94293855
Ruth was about to talk to her that one time Blaine broke his court order but aw her had to avoid confrontation for several years in real time. There was a gigantic scene and arithmetic had to escort him out of the building

>>
>>94302897

>>
>>94299574
>There was no premenitation and she was in genuine fear for her and Dorthy's life thats text book self defence.
She could argue that, and maybe she was in fear of Dorothy's life, but I don't think she was ever really worried about her own. I think she was more worried about having a witness to the killing she was assuredly going to commit.

>As for confessing, feeling guilty is pretty normal reaction in this kind of situation. Plus Amber has a tendency to see her own action in the worst possible light. It's not surprising she'd be beating herself up over it.
I think it goes beyond regular guilt when you have a character who resorts to violence all the time and even enjoys it, but it is constantly regretting and trying to supress those urges or recontextualize the violence as good. I think it's bullshit that she didn't succeed, but I'm totally on board with the idea that she tried to kill Ryan. Maybe the Amazi-Girl part of her stopped her from making a killing blow (which is what I mean by bullshit).

That's separate from what anyone would argue in court, and Amber isn't so far gone that she's admitting her motives to her best friend, let alone authorities. So yeah she'll say (or already said) she was afraid, did a disarm move she learned in self-defense, tried to keep him away, he kept coming, used the knife out of fear he'd get it back, all to protect herself. But that's not the reality.

Better questions, why is Amber still going to college?

Why is Amber not being taken out and put into a special victim trauma care?

Why is no one in the media giving a shit? This college has seen a shooting, a attempted rape, and a vilgilante that beats people up on a daily basis. And now a rapist was stabbed in the dick after trying to kill a woman. Why is no one reporting on this shit, Willis??? You can't say this universe is based in reality then not have the world/media react because you don't feel like it. You are the shittiest writer ever and you bending the world backwards all the time is lazy.
