Here's a fun thing: social media reflects the type of person you are. Not having a social media presence will do you out of far more potential jobs than bitching about anybody online ever will. Fucking McDonalds will check your social media to make sure you're not an asshat, and if they don't find anything, the assumption is that you're hiding out under an assumed name because everybody is online.

Hell, most high-profile companies want to see behind your privacy settings now too. There are apps they have that you can use to give them read-only access on a one-time basis, a bot scrapes your account and checks for keywords.

While I can't say I'm surprised a practicing employment lawyer finds this outrageous, it is normal, and he should know better. Nobody is required to hire you - especially if you give them a reason not to.
