The last time Hitch tried to Ultimates by himself he didn't even finish the fucking series.

>>
>>94284458
I just want Hitch to go on Earth 2.

Main JSA will be safe from being edgy, blown up, being in a terrible relationship, having the world end, and having to do terrible time travel.

I completely lost the plot in v1 and was just looking at the pretty pictures, at least here it's relatively straightforward, even if B&W art is a little harder to parse
>>
>>94284458
I mean, did Hitch even READ Earth-2? That's almost literally exactly what it was, and it managed to do it without filling it with asshole characters, rape, gore, and really stupid early-2000's style "realistic" versions of character powers.

And it even went into the exact same direction that the Ultimate U did with being overly destructive, stories becoming even more convoluted than the main universe, and all of the characters working for the same government agency!

>>94284534
It's going to continue getting worse forever, as per the old "any community that gets its kicks by yada yada yada" quote.
>>
>>94284534

heavy modding can actually change the direction of a community back to where it needs lighter policing. Even b-day worked for a little while.
>>
Here's Hitch's idea of Ultimates:

We all know how Millar is - but there's the moment in Ultimates 1 where Tony decides to buck up and try to save the day because some random kid on the street believes in him....and all on his own Hitch added a bit where a soldier pushes that kid down for fun.
>>

I think what Hitch meant in that tweet is update the team on aesthetic level more so than narrative level, so it feels more contemporary. And considering the direction of Rebland, that shit was really blown out of proportion.
I shouldn't have made that thread lol.
>>
>>94284792
It really is more that "I do not read comics at all but look at this shit" threads get kept up. But /co/ has always been a mess between comics, cartoons, live action, movies etc. Anyway, I think it's a bit rich to complain about moderation when we're all still posting (AND IT'S AGAINST 4CHAN RULES GUYS) but I agree threads seem to continually get shittier.

I feel like comics discussion has just become that now.

I was totally here for them smacking down shippers because current-day fandom shippers are the sheer incarnation of the will to power and I despise it all
>>
What I can't stand is the constant negativity. People are actively looking for things to get angry at. How the hell does one even function like that?

People, go read/watch/play something you enjoy, go do something you like, have a wank, whatever will get you to calm down for a bit. Being pissed off at everything isn't healthy or enjoyable. And this is coming from a guy known as Cranky.

Chill out. Goddamn.

Mon-El ruined by shipping him with Kara and having him literally not even being friends with Clark

OK what has this become, Grant Morrison's version of Transmetropolitan?

>>94285642
I feel like Busiek and others need to just stop responding to these people. All it seems to do is inspire even more people to rail on them about this crap.

>>94285720
Busiek and Wilson are definitely two of the best. Simone and Patch Zircher also get a lot of respect from me for always being up-front with their beliefs and thoughts.

>>94285845
I love both Supergirl and Flash for their sheer earnestness and love for superheroics. I'm not that hot on the actual writing and watchimg them often gives me a headache, but I admire so much their energy. I see younger folks getting excited for each episode trailer the same way I was excited getting the next issue of a comic and being so eager to read it on the ride home.
>>
>>94285624

I think part of my problem is the bad things are traits Marvel has always had getting worse, and beyond the moral problem, blaming it on diversity is just scapegoating instead of dealing with it
>>
>>94286015
Nah, they called him James and outside of the one moment when he hears General Lane is coming to visit he acts all cool and hip.

Which is fine, but they sapped all energy from him in the process.
>>
>>94285893
Modern day shippers are terrifying, but I see what they were going for with that SuperCorp ship. Despite dating him in real life, Melissa somehow seemed to have less on-screen chemistry with Mon-El compared to Lena's actress. Mon-El himself was okay (despite the name), but I didn't quite buy their relationship (since they were arguing most of the time).

Anyways, CW relationships are always terrible because it means that DRAMA must always be happening.

Not the Flash though.
There's nothing earnest about Barry "I need my pain and sadness to be a hero" Allen

Passing along the best way it was described to me the other day: "fans, but especially shippers, are like wild animals. You can feed a domestic animal and they'll be your friend even if you're not giving them food right now. Feed a wild animal, and they expect food all the time, and the moment you stop feeding them, they'll attack you."
>>
>>94286054
So they made him an unrelated character? Because Jameses and Jimmys are fundamentally different.
>>
>>94286141
Pretty much.

The second season has him be a duo with Wynn (who they gave all of Jimmy's iconic traits to) and they balance out.

Did you come across the shipping shitstorm from "The 100" last year? A character had to die for the plot to progress, and parts of the internet reacted incredibly poorly to how it actually happened. I don't think that the IMDB ratings for the last half of that season have recovered.

Flash is very contradictory to me in a way. Like it almost feels like the writers are trying to emulate the right tone, but they haven't bought in themselves so it feels fake. I hope Gates can help them out in any case.

That was a great example of shipping outrage, yes. And it was also explicitly put into the most for great justice language possible to try to coerce creative into changing things.

A friend wondered how Supergirl, which apparently has spent a lot of time and care on a lesbian relationship this season, is supposed to not let down the angry shippers (who they told it wouldn't happen) and yet also avoid queerbaiting

Damn I just got the vol 1 of the 70s/80s stuff. Time to find more money.
>>
>>94284393
As much as I love Los Bros and Seth I really feel this was the best approach...like having the city and it's buildings as the main character, that heavy, oppressive German Expressionist vibe. Rub out Mr. X as much as you can, know what I mean? The way I parse the series is that it's not really about him anyway, it's about his creations. This drawing is great, could have made X ten times smaller in >>94284419
, >>94284443 etc. and it would not have made a bit of difference. Great stuff.
>>94286923
Thankyou, pretty mad 'cause his technique and style is very similar to who I was thinking of (unless I'm mis-remembering his first name, always a possibilty..), thanks for replying Anon
>>94286922
I love Scarlet Traces. Leviathan was brilliant, too. Lazarus Churchyard is kind of perverse, definitely lays out some of Warren Ellis' future themes...the art's all painted colour though, it's not as confident as his b & w stuff. Still interesting tho'. First serialised in the short-lived UK anthology Blast! magazine.
