i'm glad it's gone, the lore had gotten fucking ridiculous and not compelling enough to be worth reading all the way through.

if idw does something with it then i'm not expecting it to be all that great either, sega were breathing down ian and archie's necks with some ridiculous mandates that probably contributed to the blandness and i don't think that's going to change.

It's a pyrrhic victory, though. His goal was to force Archie to start paying him royalties for the use of "his" characters and for reprints of his old stories, therefore getting free money. He seriously overestimated the importance of his contributions and thought Archie would have no choice but to pay him, but they just swept his stuff under the rug and stopped reprints and that was that.

Now with Archie no longer in the picture he's less likely to get any royalties. Even if IDW keeps any Archie characters there's no way they're going to use and of Pender's stuff. Now Pender has his characters but in order to make any money off them he has to actually work and produce his own comics, which years after winning the settlement he's shown no real sign of actually doing it.

I hope IDW and SEGA take the opportunity to start over fully fresh and make the book they want to make. I hope they do not decide to chain themselves to Archie's continuity and characters and make IDW Sonic stand out from Archie Sonic.
