We don't know how long Luke took with learning the Jedi mind trick, because we never saw him use it, but his training with Joda couldn't have been too long either, when going by the time his friends spent trying to escape from hoth.
I think adult Jedi learn very fast, and "younglings" perhaps would too, but need to be indoctrinated in the jedi religion for years. Hell, Anakin could fly a space craft as an eight year old.

She still gets praised and condoned despite being a major fuck-up throughout the series, and her dumbest and most impulsive actions result only in slaps on the wrist from other characters - if even that. The only time I remember her getting called out on her actions was in S2, when Mako told her what a rash cunt she was being and she answers back by making a scene at the police station, thrashing a desk and breaking up with him. Any other time, any criticism she gets from other characters is lukewarm at most and she never learns anything from them.

It gets even worse then that. Even if you were a master swordsman, the first time you use a light saber would be awful. And that woild be because the blade has no weight. You can't feel where your blade is the same way you can with a physical sword. So someone with skills on using a staff with no formal training, just personal experience, using a sword where the blade has no weight for the first time in her life, thoroughly trashed a masterswordsman who used that weapon since he was a kid. Ontop of that he was also shown in the very first scene of the film to also be stupidly powerful in the force.

The problem with these threads is that nobody understand the subtle difference between a mary sue, and a character who is strong-talented and happens to wins his fights:

A talented or strong character bends the universe with his will/strength.
A mary sue has the universe bending itself for his sake.

To be honest this term should've never been applied outside of fanfiction. Nowadays is just used to insult a strong-talented character that we don't like, and makes it impossible to write a character who is actually the best at what he does.

Rey just instantly does things the best. The nations interacted in harmony but remained separate. Otherwise airbenders wouldn't be seen in the Fire Nation like how Aang speaks of his friend Kuzon. Or how Aang hung out with young Bumi. The nations were coming together and if others were to interact and show bending while in the South Pole, and Korra were to be present for bending displays and hear bedtime stories about the Avatar, a child could mimic the motions.

The same is true in the first movie, we see a bit saber waving and in the same scene they arrive at Alderan
The way those movies are cut there is no time in which Luke could really train. Of course I can start a headcanon that he had more time than possible, but then why only do it for Luke and not for Ray as well

Of all the things in TFA the forest fight was highly entertaining, had a lot of weight and I personally did not have many of the issues I see people try to apply to it.

I think the term more appropriately levied at Korra is Writer's Pet. While she does suffer and experience some kind of adversity, her flaws are never what cause her problems and there's always characters around to pat her on the back for just being herself. The story doesn't punish her for her faults but instead rewards them. While the story doesn't revolve around her, the writing seems to imply she's not in the wrong most of the time and even when she is all she needed to do was acknowledge it and it's suddenly all okay.

I think Korra was an interesting character idea handled shittily, but so was LoK on the whole.

Not to mention spending what...A week? Training with the greatest Jedi teacher to ever live right before the duel.
And Luke still got his shit pushed in while giving it his all against a man who spent the entire duel toying with him.

The first time we saw Luke with a lightsaber, he could barely deflect blaster bolts from a stationary drone with the force, something we saw children doing with minimal effort in the prequels.

Rey should have gotten dominated by Kaylo in that encounter.

She funded the airship in season 3 despite them not needing it because they wanted to keep these character together despite how none of them should have stayed together after season 2 since they have no purpose in the story.
And the time skip would have her learn aircraft piloting. Other than that, since she already knows cars and a sky bison just needs to here "yip yip" since Sokka got the hang of it, piloting isn't an issue.

But yeah she doesn't have a character beyond being a love interest, she never was used out of that role.
