Almost every major change since mid-Season 1 was either caused by Toffee or happened in response to him.
He cast out Buff Frog and Ludo, setting them on their character arcs.
He forced Star to use the Whispering Spell, cleaving her wand and killing off Ludo's goons, changing the show's dynamic from monster-attack-of-the-week to being character-focused and story-driven.

Going by Face the Music it seems the Mewman populace in general, or at least the nobles/upper class, knows that the god of magic assists the Butterfly queens, and Toffee's studied the history of royalty in Mewni for probably a while. If Glossaryck was told about the events in Storm the Castle, Ludo's possessed + Ludo was using the wand that Toffee cleaved while apparently committing suicide = Ludo's possessed by Toffee.

If you're talking about at the SDCC panel they were pretty much all joking and throwing out bullshit re: every theory discussed there.

More than that though, Monster Arm hasn't been referenced in any form since Season 1. Consider the amount of foreshadowing Toffee got before returning in Season 2, and the amount of buildup Eclipsa got before making a physical appearance at all.

You'd expect a main character to get even more attention than that, and yet nothing.

So is Eclipsa still the owner of the Book? We know that it's passed down to each succeeding Butterfly princess, but Eclipsa was essentially banished and imprisoned meaning she may not have officially passed it down. When Ludo tries to write in the book Glossaryck says he cant since he's not the owner, it seemed implied that Toffee took ownership when he possessed Ludo's body but Glossaryck never confirms this. The book is gone for now but Glossaryck is still around, it seemed like everything he did was for Star but it's possible it goes deeper than that, like everything was apart of an even more elaborate scheme.

Was gonna say this too; we got so much Toffee gore shit across the seasons not because he's Cis Male Scum but because he's not a human + they can use the excuse of his regeneration to cancel it out to some extent. Even his death could be as violent as it was because "lol it's not REALLY gore, it's just magic that just so happens to resemble melted flesh and a skeleton."

So maybe Eclipsa as a humanoid might not get the exact same kind of death an obvious monster would, but that doesn't mean she won't die or experience violence, period.

Actually if anything it almost feels like Eclipsa being the potential new main villain is an attempt to be less sexist or whatever. Like, Toffee and Ludo as the previous biggest threats were both male while Miss Heinous was a joke, what does that say about your cartoon with a female protagonist that you think she can only truly be threatened by MEN, etc.

It's kind of bullshit either way to say that they're using Eclipsa because she is or isn't sexist as a character concept; just saying that more than anything they're going for variety and Toffee being male is probably secondary to him not being human when it comes to how he died. Additionally probably Toffee/Ludo were male more because the archetypes they were going for usually are and they just played them straight instead of turning them on their heads, rather than "lol let's have Star beat the shit out of men": Ludo as comedic villain (at first) and Toffee as Lizard Bateman.

Both Rasticore and Toffee are shown with red blood when they lose arms, Rasticore as recently as this season. With Toffee we even see the blood flowing back into his regenerated limb. Look at Samurai Jack that was a nice transition, it added what it needed, and didn't go overboard. I feel Nefcy would do similar with Star, and what I was thinking when I proposed it.

I can see that, but I'm just worried she'd be overshadowed by the higher-ups. Gennedy was a titan, Nefcy is relatively new (some of her first major network animations were on MAD), and may not hold that same amount of creative power. I don't know how network shit works, but usually the new kids on the block don't call the shots.
