'99 baby here (though I've been shitposting longer than that), I was CN City to CN Real. I have good memories of a lot of City-era cartoons but I distinctly remember the CN Real clusterfuck, and all the autistic youtubers who made their """careers""" off it. Flapjack and Chowder were based.
Technically I also was around for early Renaissance Era, but outside of Robotomy and Regular Show I didn't really watch CN all that much during that period.

I'm curious: do you consider yourselves "90s kids"?

I was born in 94 and I don't, but i see people my age and younger do it a lot. Usually they rationalize it with "The 90s didn't end until 2006" or some other parroted Tumblr/Buzzfeed meme.

'96 here. Powerhouse era I remember vaguely with Time Squad, Robot Jones and early morning Boomerang. But CN City was probably way more nostalgic to me. In retrospect, they have some similarities between their bumps.
>>
Born 6/9/96 June 9th 1996.

When i first started regularly watching TV on my own, when I got off school, early in the morning, and had a TV in my room, my elementary TV viewing years, it was glorious City Era, with EE&E the greatest show to ever air on Cartoon Network, fosters homes, teen titans, Kids next door, a bunch of cool fun shit for en Elementary schooler with Toonami following.

Middle School I went through the CN real Era, it was a time I didn't particularly watch in and I didn't find Chowder or Flapjack all too amazing, I enjoyed Total Drama Island, though and a few Chowder episodes were pretty gold tier. Live actoin was shit.

Started watching cartoons again with renaissance era, mainly adventure time, and regular show, but it was fun. That was in my highschool years.
>>
1995 here. 2000-2006, the. best years, before horrible shit like CN real and Fried Dynamite came along.
>>

28, since our house got cable around 95/96 I only have a very faint memory of Cartoon Network pre-Toonami. Until then we were more into NIckelodeon. So yeah mainly Powerhouse Era.

Early years when Hannah-Barbera cartoons would play in between cartoons. No commercials then, either.

I did enjoy the early renaissance with the first few seasons of Adventure Time and Regular Show.

I can name sombe choice reasons why

2001: 9/11, war on terror, homeland security
2007: iPhone, Great Recession, rise of Twitter and Facebook, Out of Jimmy's head airs, last remenants of the "early 2000s" era die
2012: Last year of Obama's first term, honeymoon is over and fatigue sets in, "SJWs" becoming more prominent are just around the corner
2016: Trump elected, Brexit, memes become reality, conservatives get revenge on liberals and liberal media who mocked them for the past 10 years

Technically both are correct. Left is Powerhouse. Right is early years.

Golden era for sure.

Can someone please explain these different eras for me with the least amount of words as possible? Specifically the latest two eras.
>>
>>94238729
born 92 here, 90s ended in ny around 98. I don't mean the year, but the fashion trends, the attitudes, the comics style, the sitcom styles etc.
>>
>>94240489
I think somewhere around 97-98 is when the 90s culture began to fade and the 2000s culture began coming in, despite Buzzfeed and Reddit saying the 90s ended in 2005 or whatever.

Around this time Biggie got shot, the golden agre of hip hop ended and the shiny suit era began, 3D gaming surpassed 2D gaming in popularity, Spice Girls, Hanson, Aqua, and Backstreet Boys were taking over, The Simpsons golden age firmly ended with the episode "The Principal and the Pauper", TV content ratings system was introduced, and reality TV was starting to get really popular. 9/11 is what completed this slow transition.
>>
>>94240489
>>94240579
The marketing of the MILLENIUM FUTURE SHINY TECH OOH also began around '98 and was the basis for a lot of early 2000's culture that was not prevalent in the 90's.

The only people who say the 90's ended in 2005 are people who don't remember the 90's.
>>
>>94240604
Like how the 2010s culture really began around 2008-2009 with the Recession, Obama being elected, electro pop music like Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and Lady Gaga becoming popular, emo dying, HDTVs everywhere, etc.
>>
>>94240663

I'd say primarily I identify with the golden age.
I remember cartoon cartoon fridays, original shorts between your favorite shows(becoming faves in some cases) music videos, funny bumpers, new episodes of dexter/PPG/samurai jack, courage, Ect.
every friday was like a holiday, getting you hyped every week.
Like saturday morning cartoons on roids.

91 here. 2001-2003 was the golden era with the widest variety. Ed Edd n Eddy and Dexters Lab were always the two shows that 'defined' Cartoon Network best for me.

I'm mostly nostalgic over Space Ghost, Home Movies, and Tenchi. The late night shows in 90's hit me the hardest for some reason.

>which era(s) of CN did you primarily grow up in?
Powerhouse era and CN City era. I also got to watch some reruns of the early years during the start of the powerhouse era.
From 1997 to around 2003 was the best period for CN. Almost all the shows were fun and good. Even though I stopped watching CN during the city era, I still tuned in from time to time to check it out. I still don't know what happened with them. It's like they saw all the good shows they had under their belt and decided to deliberately drop the ball. They still had some good shows like Star Wars The Clone Wars, but everything else was bland and uninspired as hell.
>>
1989
>Powerhouse era

I didn't get CN in the early years because my cable provider didn't have it. But by god was the Powerhouse era glorious. I watched a little of it during the City era, but I moved on to watching Comedy Central instead.
>>
Born in 1984

I'm here from the start. Early Years and to the half of Golden Age is when I watched CN religiously. After that they started doing really bad dubs in Poland and I couldn't stand it. Post 2002 the dubs improved and I was back on the wagon.

I dug the Early Years the most along with What a Cartoon and a little bit post that period.

Early Years had some amazing adventure shows like Centurions, Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea, Pirates of Darkwater, Swat Kats that I still love to watch today.

Then again it ran a lot of re-runs of Jetsons and Flintstones.

Oh and the best thing about super early CN was the amount of uncensored Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry playing. Right around late 90s, they started cutting down showing "problematic" or "racially insensitive" episodes.
>>
>>94242823
>Oh and the best thing about super early CN was the amount of uncensored Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry playing. Right around late 90s, they started cutting down showing "problematic" or "racially insensitive" episodes.

They'd usually air the uncensored ones at night during those anthology shows like Toon Heads, The Tex Avery Show, etc. I remember one short that I can't remember for the life of me which one it is that ended with a cat shooting himself in the head one night that aired the next morning with the ending completely cut. It was the first time I had ever noticed any sort of cartoon censorship as a kid.

BoOrn in '91. Saw the Powerhouse era in Latin America. I imagine it's not much different than in the anglosphere, except I didn't see the birth of Toonami. I moved out of Chile in early 2001 and didn't catch on cable TV until 2010. By that time, I moved on from cartoons.
>>
>>94236883
I'm 20 years old, and my fond memories of Cartoon Network as a kid/pre-teen start with the Powerhouse era, but I have slightly more nostalgia for the CN City era. Mainly for the aesthetics of it all, it looked great. But when it comes to cartoons? The Powerhouse era was better.

Only as far as media goes. Writer's strike, the start of modern gaming, the rise of the internet as we know it today, CN reboot, etc. The world itself was generally the same though, I'd argue that any big shifts in culture didn't really start to become visible until around 2012. Music wasn't impacted for like 5 more years until then, when indie rock just kind of... died.
>>
Born in 97, powerhouse was my shit

CN City era was the one I remember most fondly but pretty much all of my favorite shows started in the Powerhouse era. That's a bit of a conundrum. Did ANYONE enjoy June Bugs? I mean, anyone at all? I just remember it being the worsr thing. Finally out of school and nothing to watch but ood Looney Tunes shorts that went right over my head.

Also, I'm trying to figure out if this was a fever dream, but I remember there being some sort of Cartoon Theater program in the late 90s. I just remember the intro having a disembodied, zebra-striped tongue or hand coming out of a box? I can't find anything about it. It played that weird movie with the stop motion cut-out/collage animation a few times.

Last thing that no one ever mentions in these threads: Fucking Real Adventures of Johnny Quest.

28. Honestly I didn't really watch a ton of CN except for Toonami as a kid. Was more of a Nickelodeon person. Dabbled in CN, but don't have the same attachment to those old shows a lot of /co/ did.
I didn't really start watching heavily until college, so I'm still a big fan of Flapjack and Chowder, despite how rough most everything else in that era was. Kind of wish I had watched it more back in the day now. Just have to make due with Myspleen rips.

'91, and the Early Years/Golden Age.
My godmother had cable, so some days when I was being babysat by her, I got to see CN. Kicked ass. When we finally got cable in 2004, the slow transition from golden age to CN City was notable with Dexter, Powerpuffs and all the other shows being phased out for anime and the other shows. Cue a three year blackout from cable until 2008 and I was shocked how much things changed. I knew my 'era' was over to say the least, though I didn't like a chunk of the shows that premiered during 2003-05.

I was born the same day Ed, Edd, and Eddy (I actually didn't care for it very much) and watched Powerhouse-Renaissance Cartoon Network and Boomerang like I needed them to survive
>iwn see watch new episodes of Generator Rex, Symbionic Titan, or Ben 10 on Friday again
>iwn watch Flapjack and experience a new feeling of fear, happiness and disgust again
>iwn think Adventure Time was a sequel to Flapjack again
>iwn wake up Saturday morning and battle gym leaders at the same time Ash did again
>iwn watch Beyblade and Hero 108 before school again
>iwn get pissed at Pokemon movies premiering so late again
>iwn be forced by my mom to watch Yogi Bear, Wacky Races or Quick Draw and end up loving them again
>iwn mock the sheer retardation of Dude, what would happen or Level Up again
>iwn be able to watch Cartoon Network with my family anymore

Fuck Teen Titans Go, fuck that punchable Pajeet, and fuck """""Business"""""women; They deserve nothing less than the deepest pit of Tartarus right there with Kronos and Social experimenters

I'm 22, but I kinda remember the first era.
Is that weird?

28.
We didn't get CN till 2005, so I essentially arrived shortly before the fall started. Back then, my favorites were Fosters, PPG, and Billy and Mandy. Then I took a liking in Juniper Lee (which i tried rewatching a few years ago, and found dull as hell).
I stopped watching TV around 2008-2009 after Jetix died and was replaced with Disney Channel.

After that, I gave CN another chance in 2011-2012 with Gumball ( after I saw certain comment on Paheal), AT (kept with it till season 4 when it went to utter shit), RS (till Betacai bullshit got too unbearable). Eventually came across SBT, which is now on 2nd spot of my most liked animated series. Almost completely stopped giving a damn about channel after Over the Garden Wall's ending, and I'm glad i did, because now it's pretty much dead.

Even as a 90s kid I miss Saturday morning cartoons so much. Fox Kids, One Saturday Morning, and Kids WB were great. Fox Box was shit though.
It was great when GL:TAS, YJ, and Korra all aired on Saturday mornings. It captured a lot of that feeling, and was great to experience that with /co/.

Early years and Golden age. I have toddler memories of the early years, watching Flinstones and other HB cartoons. Even in the Powerhouse era, there was a lot of that being rerun. And of course original things like Swat Kats and Space Ghost C2C. Cartoon Cartoons came out around the time I was getting tired of Nick and their constant Rugrats marathons., so CN became my primary network of choice. Toonami was also crucial to me. Started petering off around 2003, never really stopped but wasn't as into it. After that I was mainly into Toonami and adult Swim.

Why did you stop? Because of the live action crap?
>>
>>94249055
CN Real didn't start until '09.

But out of jimmys head came out in 2007

Everything stagnated in 2007.

Rise of Facebook, rise of Twitter, Big Bang Theory, Rise of Reddit, Great Recession begins in December, Moe Boom, Out of Jimmy's Head, CN city ends, Toonami replaces the cool Tom 3 with the awful Tom 4, Fried Dynamite replaces Fridays, History Channel begins showing shows unrelated to history, Crank Dat Soulja Boy, AutoTune, etc.

Worst year ever.

im 19. classifying stuff is boring so ill just describe it

My first shows were powerpuff girls, ed edd, and eddy, dexters labratory, time squad, courage the cowardly dog, grim adventures of billy and mandy, and jonny bravo. My first taste of toonami was the first yu gi oh series (not talking about the 26 ep one), gash bell, and I watched the old pokemon, remember distinctively the episode where Ash leaves Charizard with the other charizards and that trainer girl, and remember this huge marathon of the entire pokemon series for the sinnoh pilot. Cant recall if i watched outlaw star and or neon genesis on toonnami or not. (love them both) I barely remember seeing aqua teen hunger for episodes, but when i did, they were probably the funniest fucking thing ive ever seen. Also, a side note, i watched family guy, king of the hill, american dad, south park when i was like 6, and they were great, and thought the kids at my school were lame for not knowing about them yet. Last thing i remember before the next gen of cartoons was seeing like episode 5 of bleach at like 3 am during the summer being blown away for how cool it was, but i didnt become a weeb till way later.

Then there came the new shows: code names kids next store, fosters home for imaginary friends, xiaolin showdown, camp lazlo, chowder, total drama island and flap jack. Those were pretty great too, but by 2008, i sort of lost interest in cartoons like chowder and flap jack. Side note: ben 10 was boring as fuck to me at the time. was just a kid, pls dont be triggered.

And then, by the time Adventure Time and Regular show came on, i was like, "so this is the new era of cartoons and humor?", I guess the thing that turned me off was that i just didnt think it was that funny, and thought you had to be a stoned out college kid to like it. And i then spent the rest of my youth reading encyclopedia dramatica and anime.

oh, and some other two big mentions

Samurai Jack: As kid, i thought it deep and complex and was very cool. But after seeing it recently and the series finally. Holy shit, it was like Shonen Anime lite.

Totally Spies. I wish i appreciated this show more as a kid. I thought it was pretty inventive and cool watching more eps again.

Yes, i just praised totally spies more than samurai jack. Proceed to be ass blasted.

All of it. Although didn't always have CN.

I remember from HB 24/7 to when they started June Bugs. Had Tex Avery show with toon head. The various changes of the commercial bumps. Cartoon planet was awesome at the start and Toonamis evolution with midnight run and kick starting adult swim was interesting to see.

Stopped following around 2008 and just watch the shows by piracy now.

Pic related.
