You can also tell how they are all invariably yaoi-fangirl fake nerd imbeciles who CLEARLY never partook in the consumption of the media of whatever fanbase they pretend to be in for social capital.

If they had actually ever watched the movies instead of seen pictures of random things boys pay attention to when they're not paying attention to them, they'd know the Artoo is referred to as "he" and "him" about 30-40 times in the movies alone.

We'll have to wait and see on that one, won't we?

I think back to ep.1 Anakin - he had arguably a higher untrained powerlevel (at age nine or whatever) and everyone more or less liked him. The story drew on that to make him into an overconfident cocky asshole whose natural abilities drew the ire of his contemporaries and whose anger at not being promoted fast enough left him open to manipulation. And a good, interesting character was the result.
Remember there was no plan going forward when they wrote TFA. There's no reason a good writer/director can't make something of Rey yet.

I remember watching last season of Rebels which had Thrawn keep letting the best members of the rebellion escape again and again so he could get to their base, only for him to lose them in the end
>>
>>94233217
They've already done several flashbacks/visions in Episode 7 and in the trailers for 8. I'm sure that's what they'll do again.
>>
>>94233217
Force vision? Like when Rey grabbed the lightsaber, only with Luke's help to stabilize the visions. That's my guess. Yoda tells luke 'other places you will see through the force - the past, the future' or something like that. And there's what looks to be a shot of the burning jedi academy in the TLJ teaser.

We already went through this with him like a week or so ago.

TL;DR - He ignores all canon examples that prove him wrong, as well as blatantly hasn't watched/read a lot of canon stuff.

Although last time he was even more retarded, proposing the idea that there would never be any strong female villains anymore "becuz disney", and then had to eat his words when people were listing half a dozen new strong female villains that easily exceed his precious Daala.
>>
>>94233197

I didn't say Thrawn lost, I said he lost them, learn to read, he basically failed to secure his main objective, which will ultimately be why he fails in the end, so it becomes rather laughable that he allowed the best members of the rebellion to escape again and again, as their capture would seemingly have lead to the rebellion collapsing considering the track record and survivability of anyone not part of the Ghost's crew
>>
>>94233300
Which is funny, considering that Pryce exists. She's an unsorry cunt who killed people to get to the top, it seems the opposite of what he says disney is doing with 'muh feminism'
>>
>>94233197

They removed all the flaws Luke had in ANH, and they carbon copied ANH.

Somehow you're not seeing the pattern or you just enjoy eating shit, I'm not sure. If the first didn't prove to you what is going on, nothing I could possibly say will make it sink in.
>>
>>94233302
It's also been said that he's "going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the 'Star Wars' universe".
It's all speculation until Christmas though. I say innocent until proven guilty.
>>
>>94233264
Grinky was imposing and threatening and successful in basically every appearance he has until he died.

Tarkin (while not a new character) was very threatening.

Pryce is stronger in the Thrawn novel, but she too has not been shown to be incompetant at the hands of the Rebels.

Seventh Sister only failed due to Fifth Brother, and lost at the hands of Ahsoka and Maul, both of whom easily outmatched her.

Maul is Maul and did a lot of shit, killing 3 characters and blinding Kanan.

Vader needs no explanation.

Thrawn was successful for the entire season, and his book. He even debatebly sucessfully completed his final mission of wiping out the Rebels base. It was thanks to the dumbfuck Konstatine that any Rebels slipped through his fingers at all. And he shot the motherfuckign Bendu out of the sky.

So who exactly are the saturday morning cartoons exactly? Fifth Brother? Aresko and Grint? (May the rest in peace, we'll never forget you niggas)

Anakin wasn't the protagonist of TPM. He was also the Chosen One, which you might find cliche, but it was who he was so quickly in tune with his abilities.

Also the PT was literally a tragedy about the protigee Anakin Skywalker losing it all.

The ST is not a tragedy. It's a hero's journey, except without the journey. Rey is just a fucking hero who don't need no compressah from day 1.

This is why the Anakin comparison doesn't work for Rey.

(I do however agree that with some careful storytelling and background lore, as well as a good character arc, Rey CAN be redeemed. It's not impossible. But I am not going to pretend that TFA Rey is good nor comparable to Anakin because she simplyisn't)

Perhaps you misunderstood. In saying that there were no plans or future scripts mapped out at the time of writing TFA, the isolated nature of each of these films would imply that they're not necessarily locked into a 'pattern', as you call it.

The problems with Rey's character in TFA are very real, I know. But the example of Anakin shows that there's no reason to think nothing can be made of such a character going forward.

Not really, because its Lucasfilm that's making Rebels after all, not a Disney writer/animation team.

But Lucasfilm is also responsible for some fucked up shit. Like the Rancor, or Anakin burning alive, or a bunch of stuff in TCW, so I guess the point kinda works like that

Or just take Lucas's quote; "Star Wars is for 12 year olds." Always has been, always will. And 12 year olds can handle some violence. Rebels has the same target audience as Empire Strikes Back, whether people want to admit it or not.

Possibly. Its the Skywalker Saga after all, and he is the last one that we know of, besides Luke.

The ST will be on its way to redemption if it turns out that Kylo really is going to become the heroic protagonist, and Rey is being set up to be a powerful villain. It seems like the obvious way to go, which makes me fear that it's not going to happen though. Too good to be true.

Well the books are where things get blurred, because kids have different reading levels, and shit. And they have to acknowledge that there is an adult audience that wants more mature books too. But even then, I don't think I've ever read a Star Wars book that had storytelling or shit too mature for a kid to follow.

Books withstanding though, the cartoons and movies are absolutely the same target audience. Its a family series that can be enjoyed by all ages, but the original focus was 12 year old boys.

There's nothing in the OT that is more mature than anything we see in Rebels. And Anakin burning alive withstanding, I'd wager that TCW actually has some of the most mature and violent moments in the history of Star Wars visual media. Suicides, firing squads, jesus christ, how did they get away with it.

Actually, I think most of /swco/ is pretty aware of how things work at Lucasfilm now.

It's when I leave /swco/ that things get really painful. I think some people are confused and think Lucasfilm doesn't even exist anymore, because I see so many people convinced that Disney writes and makes it all now.

It's hilarious the amount of people I see brush off Rebels as "Disney's baby rip-off that replaced TCW" while not looking long enough to know that (budget cut withstanding) it's literally a continuation of TCW by the same guy who did TCW.

And yet the Rey/chosen one theories still keep cropping up.
Though that's a slightly silly example. And likely a reaction to JJ's annoying mystery box shit meaning Rey's origin-mystery is purposefully dangled in front of you like a cat toy.

You seen very sure about the ST being a hero's journey. I hope it isn't. And I'd look to Kylo to be the one whose journey will break the OT-rehash mold. Either his possible redemption was too obviously telegraphed through bad writing, or he's going to be the element that upsets the story.
Either way, it's too early to tell, isn't it? We'll wait and see.
>>
>>94233799
Why isn't it?

>Inb4 "the mass audiences will get bored"

Marvel has like 25 films and its been going strong for over a decade. Star Wars is a much richer pool for storytelling than marvelshit too. As long as Lucasfilm maintains the level of quality of Rogue One, we'll be good.

That being said, they're probably going to start taking longer breaks between their movies after 2020 anyways, as they've been pretty vocal about their 6-year-plan. They'll probably consider looking into tv by then instead or something.

>>94234167
Well yeah.

Those spinsaber inquisitors never lost to Kanan or Ezra ones, actually defeating them often. Spinsabers are in literally 1 episode btw.

Kanan is no Padawan, and neither is Ahsoka. Maul is not "washed up" as the episode so clearly shows.

Thrawn never "let the Rebels escape", he was always in control of the situation, and was very clearly tracking the Rebel base with each appearance. Sometimes even spelling out what he learned/did. Thats not gonna stop you crying about "muh kaikuckooo" though, huh.

Konstatine and Lyste are barely in the show at all, and have jobbed like twice each at the most. You'll cherrypick them over the half-dozen other more imposing and successful villains though.

>saturday morning cartoon where the burger king kids club keeps treating the same five villains like chumps
This just tells me that you don't even watch the show, because theres been lots of villains, most of which have never been shown to fail to the villains more than once.

TFA actually has a good amount of special features (less than the main saga though), it's Rogue One which just has a single 2 hour behind the scenes/making of video though, and absolutely nothing else. i wish i could say the same but the fucking american company which owns the movie theatre in our town will not show it next 2 month and all pirate shit is just first 7 minutes repeating for 2 hours . i think i will stop now to watch anything until valerian is out on videos. i just like to watch movies in their original languages..
>>
>>94235459
Yeah spock went from 'god i hate you and your fucking emotions' to 'yeah u alright' in like, two seconds, and it really killed any investment I had in their relationship. it just makes me want to watch the original series.
But I will give it this: The casting in JJ Trek was so fucking on point. That's the only good thing I can think of out of those movies. Shame Chekov died in such a horrific way, he was a cute kid, who did some good shit
>>
>>94235394
That's the worst excess of the JJ-reboot-method. When he just puts something in for reference and doesn't understand what made it good in the first place.
It doesn't produce impactful feelings, tears, or laughter. Just simian grunts of recognition.
>>
>>94235490
>They bonded in the first movie.
I don't know if I'd really call that bonding. They hated each other and reached a point where they didn't quite hate each other but at no point in either movie did their relationship progress to a point of genuine friendship.
>>
>>94235513
I wish the plot of the third one had partially beed 'oh fuck I just solved death damn it jim i'm a doctor not a necromancer' and them trying to explain how the fuck kirk survived without giving something that incredible (read exploitable) to the people who had literally tried to start a forever war
but no they took the lazy way out
>>
>>94235530
I disagree. The ending when Nero is on the view screen and Kirk defers to Spick, and then the part where Spock gets accepted as first officer by Kirk.
>>
>>94235539
*been
>>
>>94235539
Yeah, I bet Admiral Marcus' cronies would have loved to get their hands on Khan's transporter, too. Pimp out an army of soldiers with auto-dispensing Khan-blood packs so they can auto-resurrect and beam them directly to Quo'nos, right outside the high council's great hall or whatever. Check and mate.
Honestly when SW fans started moaning about JJ after TFA I, as a trekkie, just thought 'now you know my pain'. What a godawful wreck of a film.
>>
>>94235066
>I saw TFA and realized it was the EXACT SAME MOVIE as Into Darkness

I've never seen Into Darkness. Please explain.
>>
>>94235553
You really call that friendship?
>>
>>94235553
Yeah, that's them kind of respecting each other and not hating each other. That's far from the kind of friendship original Kirk and Spock had by the time Spock died.
>>
>>94235601
The same plot as beloved Star Trek classic 'The Wrath of Khan'. Old Spock is there to 'pass the baton' to the new, super-charged version of the crew, and the same story beats are met like items on a checklist, without any understanding of what made them impactful in the first place.
Ringing any bells?
>>
>>94235598
It just doesn't make sense. How did they explain Kirk resurrecting? Why didn't anyone try to do an investigation into the people who's ship nearly destroyed an entire city on earth? Why is it that Khans transporter is literally NEVER MENTIONED AS BEING THE MOST INCREDIBLE PIECE OF TECH EVER? this is the same series that established Scotty as having to invent teleporting a moving person as a plot point. It honestly felt like a punch to the face as I liked trek. I see why my normie friends liked it so much, because it was the most boring, watered down star trek story you can imagine
wheres my wacky hijinks in prohibition era america with the crew film?
>>
>>94235606
>>94235630
Just saying guys, they progressed enough that I felt the ending if ID worked.
Kirk and Spock came a long way in the first movie.
I think they came to much more of an understanding than you guys seem to think.
>>
>>94235601
Dude, into darkness is a near shot for shot remake of the wrath of khan, with the twist at the end flipped because 'muh suspense'
>>
>>94234596
I don't see why they can't make KOTOR3 and just slap the Legends label on it like they do for old EU novels.

Then again i'd only want 3 if Chris wrote it.
>>
>>94235663
Understanding is way different than being close friends. There was an entire series to establish how Spock and Kirk had overcome their differences, and how Spock had gone from a robot to a person who had accepted he has human emotions, whereas movie spock was the same through every film except for his 'KHAAAAAAANNNNN'
>>
>>94235663
>I think they came to much more of an understanding than you guys seem to think.
I think the point is that "okay we're cool with each other" still isn't a strong enough point to really justify the dual-WoKing of Kirk's "death" scene and Spock's outraged reaction.
>>
>>94235703
Movie Spock was more emotional than OG Spock from the get go though.
>>
>>94235714
He was angry, I'll give you that. Vulcans are angry, they literally have a ceremony based around hatefucking every seven years.
Spock in the original series had come to terms with his humanity, and kirk had taught him to embrace it, because he was an individual. There's a huge difference.
>>
>>94235662
The wacky hijinks, rampant holograms, and time travel plots really make trek for me.
Discovery won't feel like 'real' star trek for me unless they go to a stupid cowboy planet where everyone is a cowboy and they all have to dress up as cowboys and talk in old-west slang to fit in. That's just non-negotiable for me.

>>
>>94235738
My dudr, I'm not saying ID didn't lamely ape TWOK, I'm just saying that to me Kirk and Spock were rather close.

Related to that, I love TCW Anakin and despise movie-Anakin. To me, they are practically two separate people.
I have a weird love of the radio broadcasts, mostly because my mother was the art director for the NPR ad campaign. People only hate the sand line because of memes. I refuse to believe that the scenario of
>guy brings his crush to his home that is a desert
>they hang out for a bit and it gets quiet
>"Yeah I hate sand. It sucks because it gets in your shoes and shit."
would make people cringe or laugh like he said "I- uhh... y-you look s-sexy... fuck... sorry". Legit question for people who think that sand line is bad, have you ever had small talk in your entire lives? Because that's just casual small talk and if there wasn't the whole meme about Anakin irrationally hating sand then you wouldn't think twice about that completely normal sounding line.

Also I'm not defending the prequels 100% because I think the "I killed them!" line was weird as fuck and should have freaked out Padme since this guy who wants to fuck her is admitting to killing a bunch of children.

I never understood this aside from Plinketts's humor. Anakin is giving Padme looks of attraction and she gives him the same looks throughout the film. I wish the deleted scenes were included because her family catches Padme staring at Anakin like a meal and call her out for it.

There are a few months missing in between AOTC and TCW. Key events unfolded such as Anakin getting his scar and being Kinighted. Those few months had massive character developments for Anakin. It's ok that they weren't shown, it adds mystique to his character. We'll probably see it in a book or comic eventually tho. And TCW had another season or two they wanted to do, but Anakins character was already becoming very dark. The whole why wasn't Ashoka mentioned in ROTS thing is obvious, JEDI don't talk about "fallen or lost jedi". It's a good enough explanation for me.

I think it is a rather smooth transition from 2-TCW-3

• “Force Link” compatible
• Includes Throne/Trash Compactor (really?)/Garrison Corridor

The Pack-Ins:

Do you guys think the prequels could be a modern day 1984? I mean in the sense of showing kids their first experience of a government gone wrong and a somewhat realistic evil taking over the world? I remember how 1984 was the first media where I realized that the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany were real places that actual people suffered in and not just big scary armies of mean people. I don't know how to explain it. It's like 1984 was the first time I realized that these systems were horrible for people internally as countries with little human rights as well as externally as invading forces. I think the prequels are similar in that they take away some innocence from kids by showing them that every evil person was originally someone who wanted to do what's right and that every evil government was originally a fairly average government that was manipulated by bad men.

Given Mark himself was/is a fan of pop culture, his role in Star Wars was pretty much karmic destiny. Despite his coming up short on movie roles later down the line, Luke Skywalker was probably the best thing to happen to him. He's one of those that is incredibly articulate and true to himself while being completely comfortable with his power level. He's a real luck of the draw - he was considered a heartthrob back in the day even though he would have probably been labeled a geek or nerd otherwise.

They should have seen it coming, or at least had an inkling when Darth Vader became a sympathetic character, desu. That said, I didn't mind the bait and switch at all, myself. It's why I keep going back to them - "fun entertainment" doesn't hold me for too long. It's why Guardians of the Galaxy didn't interest me beyond the first and only theater viewing. It waa fun, it was entertaining, but the novelty was lost on me shortly after to the point where GotG 2 didn't interest me in the slightest.

I've heard that Clone Wars makes Jar Jar likeable, but I'm not seeing it. He's still the bumbling, annoying kid appeal Gullah stereotype character he always was.

>I think TCW and Rebels have ugly art styles

TCW's art style took me a long time to get used to. Everyone looks like wooden dolls.

I never disliked Jar Jar. Granted I first saw TPM as a 4 year old, but still.

He, like the show as a whole, gets noticeably better after the first season.

He's always been likable. Most of us have just been seeing him through different shades. Everyone's bumbling and clumsy, it's a part of who we are. It's why we're not all perpetual sticks in the mud. But suddenly someone comes around whose entire existence is incidentally bumbling and clumsy and we hate it. The secondhand embarassment is natural but there's no reason to turn it into resentment given the wake of his actions tend to bring about greater, some of the time positive outcomes - except for when they don't, but that's only because there exist people who know how to use his childlike sincerity to their own ends and agendas.

Lighten up. He's about the only bit of heart left in a serious and stuck up setting and you spend so much energy disliking it.

I mean dude, even MACE WINDU grew to understand him.

The Jar Jar episodes are the only episodes of TCW that I would say are worth skipping.

The mark of an honest-to-god pleb.

There's really nothing of value at all in TCW.

I've always seen a massive debate between whether Ultra Sabers or SaberForge is the better option for custom lightsaber replicas. What are the general pros and cons of each?

Ultrasabers is cheaper, while Saberforge has much, much better build quality and diverse selection.

However, Ultrasabers has a very generic and boring lineup barring a few of its screen inspired designs. The cheaper hilts do more to resemble knockoff toys. Saberforge on its own end takes months to get a saber to you if not bought on their Etsy which sells off surplus. Also Saberforge's head is apparently an immature, egocentric asshole who pays no heed to critique or criticism.

That said, despite the hefty pricetag, I'd still say Saberforge is your best bet.

Spend the extra money and buy a saber from a reputable dealer instead of one of these mass-producers. I bought a saber for dueling from Genesis Custom Sabers back in 2012 and I've never had a single issue with it.

Or this. Apart from the Archon I intend to get from Saberforge, I plan on getting a custom or two made by Vader's Vault that'll be my true mains.

Saberforge also has that really nice tool where you can make your own.
>>

The thing you have to remember is that with saber replicas, you get what you pay for. You could pay a couple hundred on a cheap mass produced model and get something adequate but mediocre, or you could save up and pay more for a hand crafted custom deal that's truly unique and yours.

Vader's Vault or Genisis for that matter.
