You say that as if its not around anymore
>>
I think you mean "old" YTV. I certainly do.

I still miss the Bionix block on friday nights. For you Americans it was equivalent to Adult Swim.

Remember Snit Station? That was the first time I ever saw Spongebob on TV.

Man, that takes me back to the 90s/early 2000s. Had a lot of decent memories when the only channels I'd mostly watch were YTV, Teletoon, Family Channel and the Rochester Fox affiliate we'd somehow get.
>>
John Candy hosted the launch special for YTV back in 1988.

It's amazing they still have this footage.

They actually made their own two special fonts for the channel. Not to mention the awesome background art and really well-done voiceovers for the promos. And of course, most important of all, the diversity of shows on the schedule.

Only watched Teletoon for the late-night stuff. Just seemed to have a generally lower quality of programming than YTV. But at least it wasn't The Family Channel.
>>
>>94220905
YTV was basically Nick, Cartoon Network and Fox Kids in one. Though it didn't have some anime shows like Yu Yu Hakusho & kirby.

It even had a late night anime segment on saturday like Adult Swim's Toonami. They had it all but lost it all when Teletoon got more popular.

ABC, included in basic cable (I think it was 34 channels) had 1 Saturday morning which had all the disney shit, and lost it all with the rise of Family Channel.

All kids needed were 2 channels.

Ytv had super lax rules. After reboot got fired from ABC they went to YTV and turned reboot into a fuckinb post apocalyptic war show because they HATED abcs censors. They wouldn't even let dot have two breasts! They went from that to killing off two of the protagonists or so we thought. It was so mindblowing to see the heroes almost lose so much as a kid. It made the ending so satisfying. Also incestuous bdsm relationship was crazy. They had balls

It weirds me out that Samurai Jack is on CN Canada, but they won't show any of the new episodes. But CN Canada is a shitshow no matter how you slice it.

>>
>>94246718

I think it should be 2009-2014 and then 2015-2017 because within the past two or three years YTV somehow became shittier. Just check out the schedule. It's 90% live action shit and the cartoons they do have barely air. It says when the cartoons air but when I skim through the channels looking for something to put on in the background I don't notice any of them.

I gotta say though, I just discovered today that a channel called, "Family CHRGD" exists and it has mostly action/comedy cartoons on it which is interesting.

Also I gotta say that this is the most detailed YTV thread I've seen in years.
>>
>>94248337
Family CHRGD only exists due to government meddling, they didn't allow the Family suite of channels to be sold off to a major conglomerate.

Yeah and the dubs they did in Canada were pretty much uncensored, while the American dubs were censored.

Also I know they used to air Escaflowne but I don't remember anything about it (except that I like it). I know some people don't remember that Case Close, .hack//sign and Eureka Seven were on air too.

They cut entire episodes and aired them out of order, sure, but the censorship of the episodes themselves was mostly the same in Canada.

(Like cutting out the MC relationship, what the fuck was that all about?)
>>
>>94248878
>but the censorship of the episodes themselves was mostly the same in Canada.

Really? Cause I remember Sakura's brother being gay, her friend having a crush on her and that girl who wanted to be in a relationship with/marry her cousin.

Now what was the funniest case of censorship/bad dubbing was Sailor Moon, but it was so entertaining that I can't be mad about it at all.

I was in Hamilton at the time. My brothers and I lost our fucking patience with the Frieza saga. The promise of it ending kept on getting delayed. We ended up missing the whole Trunks killing Frieza bit but we caught the androids showing up an then we skipped it again for Cell doing his tournament.

Only to skip that with Gohan going to college. We lost all sense of patience with that show back in the day.

I remember when they started to replace the first episode of 8 - 8:30 with original DB and we got into it for a bit. Then have DBZ after for 8:30 to 9.

All the kids in middle school were really big into it, and most of those kids were asians.
I am white and bonded with them over DBZ.

Fuck, I was watching YTV saturday morning for the first time in years and it was so fucking bad. I heard they were showing the new TMNT episode with Usagi Yojimbo, so I thought I'd tune in and see what the channel's like now. The hosts are like charisma vacuums. They were all fake and offensively unfunny. When you watch stuff like >>94239989 you can tell they're being real and genuine, and kids respond to that. I couldn't imagine being a kid and paying attention to the bland hosts on there now. Especially when there's so many other distractions out there.

>>94248529
>ya know its kinda funny all the anime dubbed in Canada during the late 90's/early 2000's was really well done
When they stopped dubbing anime in Canada is probably one of the things that really killed anime on TV up here. We wouldn't have gotten nearly as much of the stuff if it wasn't easy cancon fodder. It's no big coincidence that it started to disappear from the air when Ocean started doing less and less dubs. Speaking of which, I remember a few Ocean actors saying they recorded episodes of Dragon Ball Kai and it was going to be pitched to Canadian and European networks, but it doesn't look like anything came from it.

>>94250342
Gundam Wing originally ran weekdays at 10pm, I think. Then they did reruns in the middle of the night with DBZ. Also they hilariously aired Endless Waltz before they even premiered Wing, so that was confusing.

Now I know that YTV has done stuff like this before, showing their partner/cousin/parent channels, but I almost never saw YTV actually advertising Teletoon.

Whatever happened to canadian cartoons anyway? I remember them being incredibly big on German television at the 00's, Andy even managed to be a cult classic, now they are mostly just background noise where the dubbers desperatly try to improve the cartoons as much as they can without deluding them too much still surprised they managed to successfully change the premise of Half Naked Animals

People don't want to invest in Canadian Studios anymore. Outside of Pixar, a few failing (and heavily subsidised) studios, you only really have studios that work on commercials.

Here is a studio in Ontario that has done some decent commercial work.

Cancon is based on government policy, and Canada is moving in a libertarian direction.

The entire Canadian TV industry is likely to disappear soon.
>>
>>94243550

Whoa, this looked super familiar and I think you're right. My brain remembered. Also I know it was mostly tiny kids (but there were some women) but I got really nostalgic for the fashion/clothing style. Makes me wish people still sort of dressed like that.

Although this is Canada and honestly a chunk of people still dress like it's the 90's/2000's and if feels like time doesn't move here, so whatever.
>>
>>94253795
>moving in a libertarian direction

Since when? Scheer is not libertarian, and neither is Trudeau.

You better hope that a miracle occurs and the Libertarian party prevails or that Maxime Bernier somehow becomes positionally powerful enough.
>>
>>94254002
I meant economic libertarian only, which both of them are to a large extent. Look at their economic policy, and compare it to past governments both liberal and conservative.

Something like the CRTC would never be created now, probably even under the NDP.
>>
>>94254048
The CRTC has done some good (many options for internet providers), but they've also pulled some shit as well.
>>
>>94254000

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbXpapFBvbo

I remember seeing this whole segment.
But it was made in 1994.
So how long did they air this because I would've been 2 years old when this was made.
>>
>>94254084
They used to pull some shit back in the day, yes, but they ensured that oligopolies didn't form nearly as easily.

With specific relevance to this thread, back in the early 2000s they forced the selloff of kids' channels because they had become too concentrated. Now they don't care nearly as much, in fact they often treat all the TV genres as a single market.

And the many options for internet providers thing has far less popular support than you think, just like net neutrality and other things like that. It's also why we still can't get the same options for cell service, it's considered government intervention in the free market.
>>
>>94248807
>>94248878
Was the dub for Escaflowne censored at all? I remember being confused as shit about Dilandau apparently being his own sister.
>>
>>94232598

I remember that at one point when watching TV that I felt lucky that I managed to see all of DBZ on TV before they started re-airing everything (the seasons) out of order.

I was also glad I saw all of Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball GT never had that type of airing problem. Also I never understood why Americans hated Dragon Ball GT until I looked up some episodes online and the first American dub for DBGT is so horrible that I wanted to stop watching it.

Something else I remember was at one point they showed a season of the American version of Dragon Ball Z out of nowhere but then aired the Canadian version again/right after.
