since they can't call him Captain Marvel they started calling him Shazam, which is awkward.
but the thing is I can't think of a different name that would work.

I'd just call him that.
Its not as good as Captain Marvel but it works well enough and its got a pretty decent level of pop culture penetration at this point. Changing his name again now would be silly. It would probably do more to harm the character than to improve him at this point.
