Comparing the Coco's trailer to the Book of life, I like Pixar and all, but I sort of agree.
I mean, compare these two shots of the trailers revealing the afterlife. In BoL, each build is like it's own character, it's colorful and really chaotic but fun to look at. In Coco, not only are the building too far away to see, but it's not as vibrant or interesting to look at.

I have the perfect example. I lived on an air force base. Brand new housing units. We were the first ones to move into the cul de sac. A few more white families. Puerto Ricans.
Everything nice.
ONE black family moved in. Remember this is US Air Force. On base.
The nice brick bus stop mysteriously gets tagged. the picnic area gets flipped and the trash cans smashed in. Street lights got busted out.

Total coincidence I'm sure.

It's their whole culture to fuck up whatever area they move into, which is why White Flight is a thing. Air Force kids who had never fucking grew up in a poor lifestyle, and they STILL were compelled to jack up the neighborhood. Two other black families moved in and one of them actually got booted off base for being so fucking needlessly ghetto.

Fuck I wish people would leave this story alone. I love Tchaikovsky's music and the ballet production, but the story isn't even that good and everyone always credits it as "based on ETA Hoffmann's story" when really it's based on the ballet revival of the ballet based on the Alexander Dumas story based on the ETA Hoffmann story. A lot of the important elements of Hoffmann's original story are lost in that telephone string and it was never one of his better stories to begin with.

It is not good material for a movie.
