I remember watching this in the cinema as a kid and even back then the funniest moment were the three dudes next to us who constantly joked about secretly filming the movie and putting it on the internet.

Interesting argument. I liked it because the animation was more crisp and vibrant than anything else Simpsons-related, it subverts the idiotic Homer plot template of Scully's episodes, was consistently funny, had heartwrming moments and a pretty badass rendition of the theme song. However, I can see the points you made and why they make sense to you.

Was already a jaded fan when the movie came. It felt like it was officially dead. Glad I never came back to it.

I remember watching it on FX a few years after it came out, I thought it was pretty good. It was what got me into the show, I remember afterwards going on Hulu and watching all the episodes they had on there.
Looking at it now, it's an alright movie. Not as good as the golden age episodes, but much better than the episodes they shit out nowadays

Just pick up a fucking pen and start drawing. Buy some of Loomis's books if you want, and drawabox is for beginners too. But honestly, just draw what you want. If it doesn't look right, draw it again. The best part is that early on, you improve pretty quickly.

Simply put: it was alright. It went through 153 rewrites and reportedly has two full movies' worth of cut material, and what depresses me is that somewhere within all that shit we never saw was a truly great Simpsons movie that lived up to the classic standards, unfortunately we never saw it. Lisa's shit with her boyfriend who never appeared again was inconsequential and served absolutely no point in the narrative, and it was only shoehorned in to give Lisa something to do, when the shit about the environment was more than enough of a plot line for her. And if they wanted to do a Lisa gets a bf plot, why would they not use Millhouse, which would be a movie-worthy story. Also,

They could've had Scorpio in the movie and Rainer Wolfcastle as the president character, but instead they didn't to appeal to casuals and normies. Homer, Marge and Bart's plots were all excellent, the animation was fluid and not completely static like the HD seasons and the score is fantastic. It's also funnier than most Simpsons post season 8, it's just it had enough script missteps and dumbing down that took it from good territory to mediocre territory.

There were 2 major factors, not wanting to let fans down which caused rewrite after rewrite while also having to make a studio movie. They needed to introduce the characters again (which I think they did a good job with) while still making it feel like an episode.
