I can try I guess, and I did watch the first episode
While the background colors are nice, I'm not a fan of the colors they choose for the protagonists, mostly I'm referring to the whole palette of the short guy with orange hair (sorry if I don't remember names) in general they just look a bit off, they really clash. Putting that aside, another thing I don't really like are the noses, and yeah the colored ears, and I think that's about it.
I don't remember much about the animation but from what I do recall it was smooth enough, and the backgrounds looked really freaking cool.
I only they could have made the designs of the protagonists more appealing, like, I can kind of get used to the tall guy, and the girl is cute enough, could be cuter if they fixed her nose, but really that guy is goddamn ugly.

Yeah I think making Ansi so shy and reserved actually made his character super cute and likable in the pilot. More of that would be good, but it seems the Wayne stripped away all his inhibitions in no time flat. In general (for being kids) right off the bat I thought they were all way too chill about all this in episode 1.
The writing's structure and pacing isn't the best it could be, for certain. The show does make up for it in imagination and dialogue.

Yeah, the characters had a weird transition from the web episodes to the TV show. Ansi looks more confident, Olly feels less serious and more wacky, and the bad guys seem less threatening.

Don't get me wrong, I've really liked the action set-pieces in the episodes so far and the environments they take place in. This show has a child-like sense of exploration and mystery to it and we're seeing new stuff in every episode, that's where a lot of the excitement comes from. But even as the pacing has improved from the first proper episode it's still been pretty breakneck.
I just want some more character moments/establishment so I wouldn't mind a breather ep. Usually shows start out with those to get you invested rather than diving straight into the intense stuff.

I think Nick really is positioning this as their GF; I don't think it's a ripoff at all personally, it simply exists in the same genre. But the article makes it sound like they're really banking on the show and the fomat because trends and focus groups indicate a serialized mystery is what people want to see and will keep them engaged right now. And they're probably right! Now they just have to follow-through and keep up this kind of support through the first season (at least) so the show can actually find it's audience..
It would also be cool if they can get the merch part down early, something Disney completely dropped the ball on with GF (failing to capitalize on the popularity of the show even though every sliver of substantial physical media that got out sold like hotcakes)
