Are new episodes airing every day?
Yes, the entire week, so we'll have the first five episodes by Friday.
I hope the show progresses, since now there is not much place for theories and discussions, which is what happens with mystery shows like this.
ok let's stick with the thread with the links.
no idea this show was bombing a little through the week.
time to watch the birdie episode, thank you mega anon!
I wanted to watch the second episode legally this morning but Nick hasn't put it on their site/app
Why do they drive me to piracy?
Also Saraline is qt but Ansi is a really cute boy
>promising, cute urban-set adventure-fanatsy show with sharp modern writing to languish in obscurity out of pure apathy
>while TLH's painful mediocrity and pandering to sperglords and pedos gets it a theatrical movie
kill me now senpai
That's the fate of the modern world, pham. Decent to good stuff get the axe, while awful shit gets promoted.
This show was a 7/10 for me, because everything is perfect but the artstyle, which I don't like personally. However, the writing is getting better and the pacing improved.
At least we know the first 20 episodes are already done, so we get to enjoy a season of this show.
the artstyle is a huge part, but honestly in a cartoon you have to have balance, TLH has an appealing artstyle but the stories and characters are bland, this cartoon has an intriguing plot but the artstyle is absolutely terrible, I'm not too fond of both
Am I the only one who finds the art charmingly simple?
I think it's because I have nostalgia for old Flash toons at this point, reminds me of Home Movies and stuff like that and it's comfy.
Plus the worst thing animation can be is sterile (like most cut-out tween animation), this has some roughness around the edges I like
We are talking about the same era where Teen Titans Go is one of the most popular shows.
Kids don't want quality, they want retarded toilet humor and stupid nonsense, they are simply too immature to appreciate a good story.
I can't like a cartoon if it doesn't have both, I'm not saying it to be mean or contrarian, and yeah I like some cartoons which styles are thought to be "ugly" but the point is that to me they're not, and that's why I like 'em
I thought it was the same for everyone?
to me yes, a lot, it could've even been as huge as gravity falls etc
I'm not hating on children, I am stating the truth. I'm not intending to use fedora terms to describe myself while thinking kids are subhuman, it's about how simply shows with too much writing can tire them, because they are too young to grasp on this stuff. No need to point out that shit, anon.
Two things ruined the premiere of this show in my opinion:
First, that autistic youtubers and e-celebs called this a GF rip-off, which in fact made some children act aggressively towards the show.
Second, the art style, because it put off some people (even in these threads a few anons stated that they didn't want to watch it for that reason).
I hope these low numbers and first negative reception are simply a bad start for the show and not the total annihilation of what could have been a great story.
this show's artstyle isn't bad at all, what are you guys smoking? the only real complaint i have is goddamned coloured ears but other than that it's perfectly fine. i'd love it if somebody could describe what's bad about it.
>First, that autistic youtubers and e-celebs called this a GF rip-off, which in fact made some children act aggressively towards the show.
i really don't want to believe this
>mfw nick is utterly failing at trying to ape GF
only idiots and/or fuccbois like the mabelposter above actually believe this
the funny thing is that that one popular youtuber even retitled his video calling it a rip-off/inspiration. it's funny how bad clickbait can really hurt the premiere of a show
>i'd love it if somebody could describe what's bad about it
I can try I guess, and I did watch the first episode
While the background colors are nice, I'm not a fan of the colors they choose for the protagonists, mostly I'm referring to the whole palette of the short guy with orange hair (sorry if I don't remember names) in general they just look a bit off, they really clash. Putting that aside, another thing I don't really like are the noses, and yeah the colored ears, and I think that's about it.
I don't remember much about the animation but from what I do recall it was smooth enough, and the backgrounds looked really freaking cool.
I only they could have made the designs of the protagonists more appealing, like, I can kind of get used to the tall guy, and the girl is cute enough, could be cuter if they fixed her nose, but really that guy is goddamn ugly.
Yeah, I just noticed. Last I checked it had 200k views, because the faggot who made them capitalized on GF, thus he has to keep appeasing his fanbase by shitting out retarded clickbait videos.
Of course that video hurt the premiere of this show. I still haven't lost my hope because the official Instagram account of the show is getting good appraisal and a lot of followers daily. Also people on Twitter are starting to realize it's good.
He's a kid Toonzone sperg who's been doing this on-and-off in talkback threads for years
Just ignore cuz there's nothing that will stop him until he gets a link (and then he won't even say thanks)
Sorry for the wait, had to deal with work. Here's the episode.
Another one of these lines of mysterious symbols appeared in this episode
The entire of Masterson's dialogue was excellent. I am afraid, though, he was more menacing in the web shorts, in this episode he felt a bit incompetent.
And also I felt bad for Leif, I wish I could help him.
Home from work, about to watch the last 2 eps
I watched the pilot shorts after I saw the first episode of the series and I liked them a lot more.. better pace, which is rather bizarre considering their unconventional format.
I kind of hope this gets an animation upgrade after the first season to rid it of the tweening, like Bob's Burgers and Star Vs did
I suppose it has to pick up enough steam to last that long first, though
>22 minute comedy
>ongoing plot has undoubtedly begun in earnest by episode 3
this alone would've been enough to get the show attention less than a decade ago
But suddenly serialization is nothing special
yeah pretty much
i think this show would benefit from being a little less vague with its overall plot and try to have episodes that focus on something more tangentially related than directly related. as much as people bitch about "filler" in serialized shows i think having some breathing room is healthy. i appreciate the little subplots from episodes 2 and 3 themed around friendship - i get the pilot already covered this but i'm disappointed that there isn't more of ansi having to adjust to the wackiness of the wayne. he's "one of the guys" now and rolls along with the punches a little too easily for my taste.
Yeah I think making Ansi so shy and reserved actually made his character super cute and likable in the pilot. More of that would be good, but it seems the Wayne stripped away all his inhibitions in no time flat. In general (for being kids) right off the bat I thought they were all way too chill about all this in episode 1.
The writing's structure and pacing isn't the best it could be, for certain. The show does make up for it in imagination and dialogue.
Hearing ATHF voices in this show is just sad to me. I mean carls voice as a door man just seems wrong.
Nice to know uploads are being handled by a guy who will throw a bitchfit and stop after a small narrative misstep or the tiniest bit of progressivism in the writing that allows him to delare it "Tumblr trash"
They are, the entire show is a colection of tropes, archetypes, and cliches with almost no conscious thought put into making any of it original or interesting.
Compared to most other modern shows it feels non-genuine, as you can tell the writers are out of touch and don't really care about what they're making. It's like an 80s show minus them trying to sell you shit
This is the problem, too many people were put off by their first impression of the show.
Yeah, the characters had a weird transition from the web episodes to the TV show. Ansi looks more confident, Olly feels less serious and more wacky, and the bad guys seem less threatening.
Saraline is more appealing because she didn't change, she is still the bossy little sister. Hopefully, the rest of the season builds every character in a proper way.
Today a new character is revealed, voiced by another ATHF guy, the one who did Master Shake's voice.
i swear if more people saw the original shorts they'd be more receptive to it.
saraline didn't change because she didn't have much focus in the original shorts to begin with. i do like her a little more in the series - it does a good job of balancing her hypercompetent tech expert spy side and her socially-stunted little girl side.
truly this is the reincarnation of athf. dana snyder as a wacky vampire hunter sounds like a winner to me
Since Dana himself confirmed that Billy loved ATHF, I expect the guy to make them interact in a future episode. Perhaps something like Professor Bishop requesting assistance from that vampire hunter dude while the doorman helps them?
It could be like a kid-friendly version of any ATHF episode.
I do know after looking at her eyes the shadowy guy in episode two said "she'll be fine"
I'm not sure exactly what it means either
other than the mindbreak giving me funny feelings in my pants
He's too kind and sweet to
But I think he'd be a fool not to get some cuddles out of it, and maybe test the waters of seeing how much she likes him considering she's not going to remember anything he says
hold it right there you sick bastard
also they already did that on screen and it was cute
Seems I couldn't tell on my CRT but he's actually holding her wrist, which seems like the handholding equivalent to the hover hand
So he has a ways to go before he's not beta
But Saraline is 7, and she's a girl.
She has a lot of maturing to do. And even if she never becomes more normie, after puberty she'll have no trouble finding at least one other equally desperate weirdo, it's not like there aren't plenty of men of that description around.
>you will never find a qt nerdy redhead to cuddle with
it's never too late anon :-)
but while hair is black, but two of my brothers are ginger and I get red hairs in my beard sometimes
So if I made babies with one I'd almost certainly be stuck with a little cult of pale funnylooking outcasts to society
Today's episode description.
Also it looks like tomorrow's may be 2x11min fomat? I have a feeling it might be like Foster's Home where they tried it out for the network's sake but didn't stick with it, this show is too plot heavy to want to go that route.
LMAO true, this show loves using long-ass titles. "Like a Happy, Happy Bird" for example.
I feel like Nick is trying to save this show and help it, they probably learned that a wide variety of shows is good for the network since it catches children with different tastes.
this girl spends half of episode 2 mindbroken if that counts
I hope for one with a little more dialogue/comedy and less action
Don't get me wrong, I've really liked the action set-pieces in the episodes so far and the environments they take place in. This show has a child-like sense of exploration and mystery to it and we're seeing new stuff in every episode, that's where a lot of the excitement comes from. But even as the pacing has improved from the first proper episode it's still been pretty breakneck.
I just want some more character moments/establishment so I wouldn't mind a breather ep. Usually shows start out with those to get you invested rather than diving straight into the intense stuff.
They followed after their parents. Mr. Timbers is a toy maker (Olly's childish personality) and Mrs. Timbers is a military scientist/engineer (Saraline's advanced knowledge and maturity).
>thought Leif was my favorite character
>this smug piece of shit appears
And now I love him.
Actually it apparently takes a few generations for inbreeding to lead to severe problems - its just that people who are related are more likely to pass on recessive genes including some pretty nasty diseases.
You know what's a recessive gene?
The shows cute and stands on its own, and I'm saying this as one of the only people on this godforsaken board that doesn't hate Gravity Falls - anyway everything is influenced by tons of crap, what matters is how you tell the story.
The book had a very suggestive cover: A guy holding the card over the Wayne and apparently controlling the world in some dystopian scenario.
Perhaps Olly will cause such scenario in a future episode?
>The book had a very suggestive cover: A guy holding the card over the Wayne and apparently controlling the world in some dystopian scenario.
>Perhaps Olly will cause such scenario in a future episode?
There's a book?
Ah ok, guess I must have missed the detail.
Honestly the idea of something "ripping off" Gravity Falls now that the show is over and done with is pretty dumb.
It's not like they are eating into the shows airtime. The series is finished, so why not be happy that there's a new show about a bunch of weird kids dealing with mysteries in an improbable but colorful location filled with crazy shit?
>Also, before I just figured his clingy touchiness was a joke but this episode seems to be more heavily implying Ollie is gay for Ansi (still in a funny way though)
Really? I thought he was going to marry that blue electric girl from the pilot though.
They have their gay moments.
The first half of episode 2 was Olly getting jealous because Ansi wanted to be with Julia instead of him. That's quite gay.
In the pilot Ansi has a monologue and he admits Olly is very important to him.
They have their straight moments, but don't deny they do have a weird connection.
I'm out of town for the rest of the week, so I'm not able to record anything. I apologize for everyone waiting for the episode.
And for fuck's sake, Brandon. Quit bitching and moaning everyday I don't record something on time. It's annoying as fuck.
Nah, c'mon man - they are just bros like our old pals Guts and Griffith.
I feel bad for you, watching Brandon and the pedo house fags screeching for MEGA links.
I understand if you cannot record it, take your time. There's another guy ripping the episodes, so I'll wait for that anon to upload his link.
This new one that aired tonight outdoes all that as
there's a constant barrage of jokes playing up how much Olllie likes Ansi - gets extremely excited at the prospect of cuddling and nuzzling him and told him "your eyes shine like diamonds", that sort of thing.
Wish I had a capture device so I could upload for y'all but I do not, at least there's no way you'll have to wait any longer than tomorrow (and we'll need to keep the thread alive for that day's episode anyhow)
it's not really shipping discussion yet when we're just talking about what's in the show
Once the fanfics start getting posted you can complain
The only real cancer we have thus far is Brandon
As as long as two weirdos are up really late and then really early (or just one weirdo doesn't go to sleep or they're weirdos in different time zones) these kinda discussion threads do usually manage to survive during a bomb week, even for new shows. Someone just has to care about it
Nick made an instagram account for her. Her "real" identity is Agent 31B, and she works for an organization called Calliope.
Also, she's in a relationship
I was wondering if they were going to have the voice actor for Meatwad play a character, but then I looked up and realized that Meatwad actually had the same voice actor as Carl did. Weird, I saw a bunch of episodes of Aqua Teen and I never would've guessed
I really like the theme song. It's by the singer of the band That dog. and it has that sort of 90s twee/alt vibe to it, melodically unconventional with some weird touches but catchy and pretty. Can't get it out of my head honestly.
score by Ego Plum also rad as usual
The part that keeps getting lodged for me is actually the beginning, especially "But for you/it's just begun", the phrasing and bending guitars have a great tone together
Whole thing really, though. Sidenote, there is a longer version:
All I can think of is this every time I see this:
"Ruin has come to our family.
You remember our venerable house, opulent and imperial, gazing proudly from its stoic perch above the moor.
I lived all my years in that ancient rumor shadowed manor, fattened by decadence and luxury, and yet I began to tire of... conventional extravagance. Singular unsettling tales suggested the mansion itself was a gateway to some fabulous and unnameable power. With relic and ritual, I bent every effort towards the excavation and recovery of those long buried secrets, exhausting what remained of our family fortune on... swarthy workmen and... sturdy shovels. At last, in the salt soaked crags beneath the lowest foundations, we unearthed that damnable portal of antediluvian evil. Our every step unsettled the ancient earth, but we were in a realm of death and madness. In the end, I alone fled, laughing and wailing through those blackened arcades of antiquity. Until consciousness failed me.
You remember our venerable house, opulent and imperial. It is a festering abomination! I beg you, return home, claim your birthright and deliver our family from the ravenous clutching shadows of the Darkest Dungeon."
i love the monster designs in this show
thursday's was the best yet - shake's like olly except he's not afraid to be a dick sometimes
the "all he did was push a button" thing had me in stitches
>Some Kind of Tap-Dancing, Beekeeping Whaler
>As Olly helps his new neighbor regain his memory, Ansi is convinced that his best friend is in mortal danger.
Found this episode's line of strange symbols.
We should try and decode them someday, because for now I think we have no clue what does each individual symbol mean.
I'm guessing they're starting us off easy and each symbol simply corresponds to a letter of the alphabet
Will take quite a bit of trial and error to crack but someone with plenty of freetime could do it
I think he'll take any part of Ansi he can get a hold of
I like Wendell, Masterson, and the librarian whose name escapes me. The latter two aren't very fleshed out but it's a good time when they're around.
Not sure about the new vampire guy, based on the design he seems like a generic scene kid. Reminds me a lot of Fern from Adventure Time.
I wonder what will happen between him and Wendell, little guy seems obsessed with catching his own vampire. I think it's adorable the fact that he wants to follow on his parents' footsteps.
Saraline's my favorite, I just like to hear her talk, her voice is great. In this exchange for example
Plus even though she's so bossy (and mean sometimes) she has other traits that soften her and she's always looking out for the good of the team
Overall I don't really dislike anyone yet which is a good sign
yeah, it's also interesting that we've never seen any of the parents either. probably intentional. from what i've seen of the trailers i don't think wendell's gonna be a huge part of today's episode.
you stopped it with the gay and left this thread alone, at least until the new episode airs
Although I can't record, I still felt like helping you guys out with a stream I found, it's pretty HD:
I like how each ep title is a random line from that particular episode.
I don't understand how the Loud House is so successful. I get that /co/ watches it because it's full of waifubait, but you'd think that would be the extent of the fanbase. I tried giving the show a shot but it just sucked so hard. I'd put it in the Brickleberry/TripTank tier of how shitty it is.
>I get that /co/ watches it because it's full of waifubait
Replace /co/ with the internet and you'll get the success of such a mediocre show. There's a FB page full of Latinos that love the show, and it's ridiculously huge.
because I'm a spic and FB advertised it, but I don't like that show
Definitely, after all he now owns that apartment, which is also Team Timbers' new HQ.
Man, this show does the exact opposite most shows nowadays do. It changed the status quo in the fifth episode.
Also, I think they're setting up Wendell to be an antagonist? I mean, Saraline wiped his memory but that doesn't mean he cannot re-learn about Andrei again, also because he seems to hate vampires to the point he becomes violent and irrational.
well, he wasn't particularly antagonistic in his debut appearance and doesn't seem like a bad guy overall. he might be against andre but other than that he's probably just a goofy side-character.
also i have no idea why nobody's pointed out how baller it is that he TAUGHT HIMSELF telekinesis. his parents might have some psychic abilities but that's just so interesting. makes him a much more competent antagonist.
meh, toads and tiaras is on and that's a solid episode. i agree though, loud house is above-average at best.
perhaps we underestimate the power of pedob8
>No Matt Maiellaro
>No Andy Merrill
>No Mike Schatz
>No George Lowe
i think what he's trying to say is that we haven't gotten a kid's show that focuses heavily on plot and continuity on a mainstream tv network
each episode builds off the previous one at least a little - even the first episode kind of clumsily takes stuff from the pilot shorts
yeah, maybe he's catching glimpses of weird stuff in the wayne and he's trying to sneak in
wait, george lowe's in this?
Adventure Time is a classic example, it takes too much for the writers to change something about the story or the characters. It had some progress, but it was slow as fuck.
Holy shit this. Wendell is a fucking overpowered character if he managed to teach himself such power.
It's not just plain telekinesis, Ansi can fucking talk to him with the spoon, or "talk" as in Wendell can sense through them. It's more like a deep connection with stainless steel.
Can you imagine if he mastered it with any metal object? There's a shit-ton of ancient armors and weapons in the Wayne, he could craft an army of iron golems (I chose golems because they're jewish lmao).
He should be (the creator wanted Aqua Teen vets)
That's okay, because Nick probably wanted you to do that.
It's a good show. A good quality show! Very funny. Lots of continuity too! Great characters. Maybe some mystery? Keep watching!
There's a lot of shit to discuss, because this show is deepest lore.
The mega links are scattered in this thread, make sure you download so you can watch and understand the story by yourself.
tl;dr, Ansi is the newest guy in the Wayne (the building), he goes on adventures with Olly and Saraline, because in the first episode it is revealed something big is coming to the building. They then focus on two monster-of-the-week quests (Eps 1 and 2), get to meet other residents (Eps 3, 4 and 5), and so far try to discover more about the building.
damn i thought matt voiced meatward.
i'll just go now
Welcome to the Wayne is an American children's animated television series created by Billy Lopez. It premiered on July 24, 2017 on Nickelodeon. Welcome to the Wayne originated as an online web series, that was originally released on Nick.com from November 14 to December 26, 2014.
The Wayne is an apartment building that is not your typical apartment building. Upon moving to The Wayne, Ansi Molina befriends Olly and Saraline Timbers where they go on a journey to discover the secrets of The Wayne where it's everything is not as it seems.
Oh boy, sounds like fun!
Great, another show where things seem all shits and giggles at first but secretly has the DEEPEST LORE.
I'm definitely gonna watch now
btw vamp guy is Tom Kenny, recognizable as always but doing a new, more subdued and naturalistic voice than usual (perhaps even more "normal" sounding than his actual speaking voice). Between this and Zeke from Billy Dilley he's had a 'goth' streak goin on
Show will be back in September with another premiere week
And there will be tie-in products
Jimmy Neutron was accused of being a Dexter's Lab ripoff but the idea is of a similar vintage even if the show was much later. Johnny Test was a ripoff of both though
Harvey Beaks was accused by morons of being a Gumball ripoff because he's blue. That's literally it.
Nick was forced to stop spamming Spongebob by Comcast because it was making the network's ratings drop overall
I think Nick really is positioning this as their GF; I don't think it's a ripoff at all personally, it simply exists in the same genre. But the article makes it sound like they're really banking on the show and the fomat because trends and focus groups indicate a serialized mystery is what people want to see and will keep them engaged right now. And they're probably right! Now they just have to follow-through and keep up this kind of support through the first season (at least) so the show can actually find it's audience..
It would also be cool if they can get the merch part down early, something Disney completely dropped the ball on with GF (failing to capitalize on the popularity of the show even though every sliver of substantial physical media that got out sold like hotcakes)
bgs are all watercolor n shit
Episode 5 1080p web-DL:
Surprisingly good series. It's actually a bit like Gravity Falls, but far less annoying. Dedicated comedic relief (Olly) here seems just genuinely optimistic and easy-going, compared to Mabel's maliciousness
And also the show admits his way of seeing the world is flawed, even the characters point that out.
In Ep 4 both him and Saraline apologize because each one has a bad perspective on Ansi, and Wendell pointed out that they behaved more like babysitters instead of friends.
Had this been GF, nobody would have blamed Olly or Saraline, Ansi would have apologized and let everyone walk all over him, and Wendell would be an insufferable smug piece of shit.
So the album covers clockwise are
>Velvet Underground & Nico
>Dark Side of the Moon
>? (Sly Stone maybe?)
>Public Image Ltd - Metal Box
Other than PIL he's lacking in vamp cred desu
someone should buy him a Cure album
Disintegration, Seventeen Seconds, and Faith are all absolute top tier moody rainy day albums
Good starter as they are very much the most entry level "goth" band there is (as they have many straight-up pop songs)
I'd expect a vampire to know that shit but I guess someone has to get him started
The vampire movie trend is kind of dead though so I feel like it would feel dated if they tried that now. Beavis & Butt-head and Robotomy did it at the right time (2010)
battle of the lil homos, who wins
who is more likely to end up with their object of homolust
Nice pic but it seems like everyone's eye balls are shitting their noses out of their faces....so that was better than the original.
Only a matter of time.
Tumblr's already got posts in the tag about Ansi being genderfluid and shit
Notice also the hourglass pattern on the wall, that symbol is important too.
For now we could try and see if a simple cypher will do. Try to match a common word with one of these, then proceed with the other pics.
the nigga in the OP
>Comparing him to Pacifica
WTTW did get better numbers all week than Clarence has gotten this season.. looking at the ratings on the wiki page for any recent CN show is depressing because it shows how the network is commmitting suicide with their scheduling. It seems like they lose a million viewers every year
First time watching this series and I have to say, it's pretty good. The characters are funny, Ansi is very charming and the background art is interesting to look at.
After Gravity Falls and OtGW, I've been looking for a mystery series and this might hit the spot.
Glad the show is getting some art.
Plus 22 minutes feels like a blessing for a kids show nowadays, CN's serialized shows always seem like they're struggling to fit everything they want in their timeslot
And at 20 episodes in the first season there's gonna be at least 4 times more of this than there is of OTGW
He put on a few pounds.
See, Saraline, all the guys would say
She's mighty fine (mighty fine)
But mighty fine only got you somewhere
Half the time
And the other half either got you
Cussed out or coming up short
Yeah, now dig this
Now even though (even though)
You'd need a golden calculator
To divide (to divide)
The time it took to look inside
That real guys go for real
Down to Mars girls
I take it this was Andre in the web series.
I wonder how much else from the web series is gonna pop up?
Is that a robot Leif in the foreground?
Is it weird that I want to cuddle with Saraline platonically? Maybe nuzzle her a bit.
Jesus fuck if they go this route they will become GOAT for me.
>Bishop and Olly's father worked together on some project, probably to contain the Wayne
>Literally SCP Foundation shit, doing unethical shit just to save the world
>Throughout the plot, Team Timbers discover everyone is involved to a certain extent
>In the end,
The Wayne was built to contain an underground portal to a Lovecraftian world where eldritch abominations live, putting the world in danger
>This is why Bishop tries to stay away from them, evading their questions and acting strange
Masterson's words would make so much sense.
Any other esoteric media references I, as well as any children who watch this show, would have missed?
She'd probably play it off tsundre to maintain her alpha demeanor but inside her heart would melt.
She deeply yearns for a human connection.. she doesn't even know how lovable she is ;_;
Props to the creators for not returning to the original status quo. At least they're not faggots when it comes to development.
>"See you tomorrow, Jenna!... now that I've got a camera in your house~!"
what did she mean by this
>Assemble The Gyre
verb: gyre; 3rd person present: gyres; past tense: gyred; past participle: gyred; gerund or present participle: gyring
"a swarm of ghosts gyred around him"
noun: gyre; plural noun: gyres
a spiral; a vortex.
a circular pattern of currents in an ocean basin.
"the central North Pacific gyre"
My best guess is that the gyre is a vortex.
