They fixed that in A-Force. Jen shrugged off the missile and Thanos wrecked her mid-explosion, and everyone assumed Rhodey shot some kind of anti-Thanos missile, since he wasn't exactly around to correct anyone.

The real answer is that Bendis doesn't care about She-Hulk and editors don't stand up to him when he fucks around like this,
so we get dumb "explanations" out the ass of whoever writes the character in question next

It's the first serialized book written by a graphic novel author.

The pacing is fucking terrible and the "transforming is painful and her hulk form is scary now" marketing turned out to be way overblown. It's the second arc now, and she's okay with transforming and does stuff like smash up a junkyard for fun. It's different from the She-Hulk we're used to but it's not what we were sold and it took too long to get here.

It'll probably read better in trades though.

Originally the plan was She-Hulk would die. The first issue made that obvious and it was mentioned by the leaker at NeoGaf like four months before the issue was out.

So once everyone knew She-Hulk would die they went back and changed it (probably because they would get so much heat for killing a black character and a female character) and with minor modifications to the dialogue and recap, and adding the new scene in >>94159324
they tried to make it a hook to get readers interested in the new "Hulk" series. I don't think it worked.
