The question on my mind right now is what Toonami is gonna do with this scene. Given what they cut out of KLK for being "too sexy", it makes me wonder if this scene will get the axe, too. That show wasn't really good but it was a recent show that very few people had heard about and so there was incentive to check in on Toonami.
To Toonami, Boku no Hero is probably the most "obvious" next choice but that show has literally been watched in English by EVERYONE at this point

That rule was working pretty well for Toonami up until 2016. You could say it was mostly luck though. There were a steady stream of pretty popular anime that were perfect for Toonami coming out from 2012-2015, and Toonami was especially fortunate that they were able to get them on the block. So the result is from 2013-2016 (since Toonami usually picks up recent shows about 1.5-2 years after they premier in Japan) Toonami did very well, jumping from one popular fad to the next. It helped that most western casual fans didn't really latch onto a show until it had finished airing in Japan which meant that the 1.5-2 year buffer was more like a < 1 year buffer since the fanbase had been really exposed to it.

But that strategy only works as long as you have that nonstop parade of hit shows that fit the block. Toonami lost a lot of good potential shows to Funimation and Hulu and Netflix, and back during the spree of good times it didn't seem that important but now we're hip deep in 2017 with very sparse pickings. Demarco has to pray something really good comes out in the near future and then latch onto it with a simuldub deal.

It was never going to reach that level of popularity here, it is antithetical to what western anime fans want in anime. Everyone that likes anime here looks at it and thinks it's goofy and childish specifically because it doesn't fall into the edgy childish traps that Bleach, Naruto fell into.

People in the west in general think anime is weird and stupid. I'm not saying that a One Piece live action series will succeed or be good, but it has a better chance of taking off than the Anime did because the anime alienates the common anime fan by the very nature of its existence. It is not "dark" it is not "hardcore". One Piece fans and anime fans are different breeds. Every anime fan I've met that also likes One Piece feels a need to make excuses for liking it, "I know how it looks but it's actually really good."

If a One Piece show gets made and is decent it could take off, the people that watch television dramas don't care if its based on some dorky anime or whatever, look at Game of Thrones and the Walking Dead. I think it could receive the budget it needs because the money from a successful adaptation could come from dozens of other countrys that like the source material.

I don't really care about toonami general so I'd just post in whatever toonami threads existed on 4chan, whatever board they were on. I haven't really enjoyed TG since 2014 or so. Threads are too negative now, too bogged down by shitposting and unfunny memes. You have people who spam images constantly, mods do nothing about it. If you cut everything out of the TG threads except actual discussion related to the block and its shows you'd have maybe enough for 2 threads at most. Maybe 3 if it was a particularly busy night.
