Maybe this doesn't count. When I was a kid and Invader Zim got cancelled, I didn't realize it had been taken off the air and had been removed from the network indefinitely. Nickelodeon hastily slipped Butt Ugly Martians into Zim's former timeslot, but all of the tv guides at the time continued to list Invader Zim as playing at that time. So, being a stupid kid, I would tune in every single night the guide listed Zim as airing only to find Butt Ugly Martians was playing. Invader Zim was my favorite show at the time so I refused to give up, hoping it would come back. This went on for months. And ever since then I haven't been able to separate an association between the two shows in my memory.

I think in the case of cartoons it supposedly has something to do with maximizing potential ratings by airing shit according to times of the year when viewership increases, especially revolving around the school year and its various vacations for children. And the strategy of hyping up new episode airings by building them as "special events." All, again, supposedly, to increase profits. I wouldn't know because I'm not in the business.

Taking the whole series, or Korra saga or whatever you want to call it, it really seems like they had only one season worth of good ideas. And those good ideas were Korra's opposition. The anti-benders could have been made to make Korra self reflect on how fortunate she is not only to be the Avatar but to have any bending powers at all and humbled Korra to the normies. The secret commie society that wanted to end the Avatar cycle should should have led to a discussion about the changing landscape of the world in politics. With Kuriva being the overreaction to the idea of the masses taking control of their lives. The Dark Avatar thing, which was handled poorly, should have been the final boss demonstrating Korra's growth as a character, with the Dark Avatar being what we actually ended up with, an arrogant shit that is entirely self centered.

I have a theory that LoK was originally meant to parallel the secularization of the 20th century that happened in a lot of East Asian countries, summed up by the Avatar (the arguable spiritual center of the in-show universe) being both ineffective, out of place and generally ill equipped to deal with the changing times and loss of spiritual connection to bending.
But then I'm probably giving the show too much credit, as it's clearly shit.

Humbling wouldn't do anything since everyone keeps falsely bringing up how bending makes it so non-benders will always be oppressed. Before there were benders and non-benders (this divide did not exist in AtLA,) there were the four nations of which even non-element users belonged to culturally and ethnically. Korra already wanted to help everyone, but the people who the show focused on were benders and the non-benders immediately went for rhetoric taken straight from violent oppressor groups.

You humble a character like Sokka who thinks someone else (girls) can't do things. You humble a character like Azula who thinks that fire is the superior element and everyone else are peasants. You don't humble a character who already wants to help others, you guide them to maximize their drive to succeed. In short, you get an actual writer to write them.

Aang was not humbled when learning elements. Katara was when she was teaching him waterbending. Aang got earthbending, his most difficult, in an afternoon and wasn't humbled so much as he couldn't pick up the animal attacking Sokka with airbending. And fire was fear.
Korra walked away from Tenzin in the probending episode and then experienced a practical application for airbending tactics and stuck with him and it (because for some ridiculous reason airbending is the only dodge ability which is why everyone else never dodged?) And spirit stuff was in book 2 and everyone was a shit in book 2.

A cute and fun show. And then, the bandwagon jumpers came.

Johnny Test. NOW HEAR ME OUT. That first season was good but every season after that went downhill more and more. It became irredeemable shit and I don't know exactly why.

She learned airbending without having to grow spiritually in season 1, which is the entire philosophy behind airbending, if they had written it better this would have been her main internal struggle (like how aang felt conflicted about killing ozai) but instead the writers retconned this (among many other things) so that Korra wouldn't have to change from her "strong black independent womyn" character.
