Depends how spells work, there could be good reason.
If spells are just bending the universe to your will with your mind, then armour penalties are dumb
If spells require intricate, full-body gestures (like some bending in Avatar), then armour can get in the way
If spells are "point and shoot" with a staff, the armour should be allowed
If spells require a connection to the ambient natural mana and artifice gets in the way, then a suit of metal amour could get in the way (bark armour? Go nuts)

You best be prepared to rebalance the entire game if you're doing this. Most RPGs are designed to make sure that wizards are more fragile than other classes, at least in theory.

Casters tend to be better than martials in a lot of TTRPG systems, they don't need yet another advantage.

Oh definitely, I would've liked if the show went more in depth with their relationship (something that could've been done if made today) but I'm pretty sure any subtly would've been lost completely. But at the very least we'd have more Piper x Cyclonis art thanks to tumblr so maybe it wouldn't have been all bad. Seriously though the lack of rule 34 of these two is damn shame.

It was barely subtle to begin with, really. It's one thing that she wants her for her beautiful brain, but the vibe is inescapable.

I also find it amusing that the two get along so well because they're the only ones on either side who actually know a damn thing about crystals. Like programmers surrounded by a bunch of script kiddies.

The only real downside I can see to Storm Hawks being made today is that the Piper x Cyclonis thing might go the way of Bubbline, where it's eventually to the point of "Oh just fuck already!". Come on, CN, nut up, will ya?

I feel like Piper x Cyclonis had a bit more chemistry though, both seemed to genuinely enjoy each other's company when they were just hanging out, something I felt that Bubbline doesn't have. One thing I've never liked about cartoon couples is that they rarely have characters who you could imagine just hanging out in their down time, with Piper and Cyclonis you could imagine a lazy Sunday where they just spend time laughing about crystals, while Bubbline...what would they even do, not only do they not have common interests, but they don't like what the other person does for fun all that much, and at the end of the day they just have bad chemistry and don't naturally fit together, I get the whole 'opposites attract' thing but this is that trope done wrong. In fairness I sorta dropped off AT a while back so maybe their relationship got a lot better, but it really shouldn't be an issue to have them officially together, I doubt any of their target audience would stop watching if it happened.
