Are we just giving up on Hikiji getting his comeuppance altogether?
>>
>>94117863
Bad joke. You had to be there.
>>
>>94118041
I don't think we ever will.
Not at the hands of usagi at least, I'm imagining if hikiji does eventually get what's coming to him it will be in something fitting but rather anticlimatic, like being exposed and shamed before the shogun.
>>
>>94118041
It's great if he does, but with just the nature of the series and Usagi's ever changing philosophy I could see him potentially revoking his duty to seek revenge. Though Jei really does need to be taken care of once and for all. We have also had hints of western explorers coming to Japan and it would be nice to see Usagi making some European friends. He's currently not a big fan of them. I could also potentially see Katsuichi sensei or Sasuke the Demon Queller dying.
>>
>>94118146
>>94118252
Sakai's really good at huge epic battles so I'd love to see a massive throwdown between Hikiji and the Geishu Clan to cap the series.

And Noriyuki should be the one to kill Hikiji.
>>
>>94118366
That would be a pretty satisfying end. Though how would Hebi die? I've actually always found him cooler that Hikiji.

>>
>>94118366
>And Noriyuki should be the one to kill Hikiji.

I think I'd just as soon see Hikiji go a step too far and the whole thing blow up in his face.

No honorable death in battle, no grand showdown in a clash of wills, just a simple order to commit suicide from the Shogun.

She can sense him even in other bodies; her counterpart in Space Usagi was a telepath whose powers were just awakening but were still extremely powerful.

Beyond that, the main thing about her is that she reminded him of the girl that he saved from that illness by selling his soul to darkness.
>>
Always liked Usagi. I just bought this.
>>
>>94120781
It's a remarkably well-made figure for Playmates. It's every bit as good as the original four turtle releases, which were by far the best of the 2012 Nick figure line.

The only bummer is no other non-TMNT characters. Not even a Jei, who's in the three-parter along with Usagi.

But then he decided that was pretty fucking dark and had him possess someone else's body.

>Usagi thread

Yay!

As for the topic... The main comic stopped for months AGAIN to allow IDW's and Nick's crossovers to be finalized. I hope both turn out good. Stan writes and draws the comic, so at least that should be done right, but the declining quality of the show makes me worry about the cartoon's Usagi storyline. At least it will be told in multiple episodes, so it may not turn out to be a rushed mess like many so other Nick special appearances.
>>
>>94124312
Read the first volume of TMNT. Everything written by Eastman and Laird. Guest era...honestly, just read descriptions and decide what sounds interesting. Don't forget to read Leo's micro before #10 and Raph's micro somewhere before that.
Second volume is bad. It sets up a lot of stuff and than rushes through them. Also, it treats Casey horribly and harms one of the better stories from Guest era. And throughs one interesting supporting character away for no reason.
Third volume is non-canon. Has some good ideas that go nowhere.
Fourth volume starts promising, but than goes bonkers. Cockroach sex with April involved, anon. Also, shilling for Honda.
Read IDW Turtles. It's ongoing and pretty fun.

>literally a cliffhanger ending
Heh.

Not an exceptionally amazing episode (though for the show's standards, it was top tier), but Usagi and Jei were both fantastic. That first sequence with Jei, straight from the comics, simply brilliant. Putting focus on Usagi, not turtles, was a smart move. I also like how TMNT literally appeared because magic, fuck you, I am not explaining shit - it saved some time. Plus we got Sakai drawn flashbacks, some nice fight scenes and even a killcount (with creative cuts and choreography to make deaths PG). Overall, it was bretty good. If Chizu appears it's gonna be extatic, but anyone else from Usagi's supporting cast would be cool as well. Not likely though, they most likely will focus on the rabbit and turtles interacting.

I also love how ridiculously OP Usagi is, he is making turtles look like amateurs. If there won't be any "get him, he's just a single guy!" scene later on I'll be pissed.
>>
>>94106263
Was the girl from the comics? I don't remember her
>>
>>94125686
Simply by virtue of the fact that there were so many ways they could have fucked it up and avoided it, it was a terrific episode.

It was just originally Usagi and TMNT were under the same comic label and did crossovers with each other.

And that kinda just stuck throughout ninja turtles.

Stan is friends with Pete and Kevin and they made few guest comics for each other. Then the turtles got popular and they invited Stan to the party so he could get more exposure for his amazing work.

He has a kid yes, though the mother is married to someone else. They were childhood friends/lovers, but Usagi went off to war and decided to become a ronin after his lord died, unlike the man who married her who decided to retire and, uh, marry her.

Usagi has had multiple love interests, though only 2 are really recurring, Tomoe, a retainer to a young lord and Chizu, a ninja.
>>94120158
But lets be honest, Tomoe is the endgame.

Hell there was already a special comic series that shows them getting together right before Usagi dies

He has a kid (Jotaro) with a woman married to his childhood rival, who grown up to be a brave warrior, smart leader, good man, and a loving father. Usagi made that kid before he went to serve his lord and left his girlfriend behind, basically dumping her, because samurai honor and servitude were more important. When she discovered she is pregnant, Usagi's rival offered to marry her and raise the child as his own, because he also was in love with her since forever. She agreed and they proved to make a good couple. Years later, Usagi learns that he has a son. It's complicated and a bit heartbreaking, because both Usagi and Jotaro think the other one does not know the truth and they do not want to turn the other's life upside down, so they act like they do not know they're father and son. And then they both sulk and feel miserable when the other is not looking.

Yes, it's pretty good.
The TMNT episode is clearly a mixture of the second issue (escorting a child under care of a catgirl samurai), the first story with Jei (the fight at the start is basically it animated) and "Green Shades", a.k.a. the one where TMNT are summoned (though Usagi has met Leonardo twice before that in some silly short comics).

Usagi's love life:
- one was his childhood crush, he dumped her, she married another, Usagi has a son with her
- one was princess he was tasked to escort, she got married off to a high ranking lord for political reasons. He wanted to run off with her, but she knew he would tarnish his honor and be killed for that, so she denied. She still thinks of him
- one is his perfect match in every aspect, but soon she will be married off to a high ranking lord, because, again, politics
- one is a ninja leader with a heart of gold, who has yet to restore her clan and cannot afford to be close to anyone, no matter how much she wants to
- one died in his arms after saving his life. Fuck that storyline, I mean, holy shit, man, why is it raining so much today...
- one was a bat ninja who died because she had a crush on him, so she did not finish him off in combat and got caught off-guard

So while all the chicks have a rabbit fever, Usagi rarely has an occasion to enjoy this fact.

Look here you motherfucker. Usagi Yojimbo is a fucking classic. He's been nominated for 21 fucking eisners, and won 5, most of them back when the esiner actually meant something.

His work rides the line between american funnybook comicing, and Lone Wolf and Cub type seinen manga. Carefully balancing comedy, drama, and action, without ever losing it's poise.

Hey /co/, say I want to start reading some Usagi Yojimbo. Where do I start? Are there any fuckhuge collections or anthology's or some shit for this? Since I really prefer my comics in doses of at least a good 400+ pages a go. Stuff like those Invincible collections or IDW collections etc.
>>

>Are there any fuckhuge collections or anthology's or some shit for this?
I believe there are several, I've seen some big hardback ones in a store. I collect them in little softback volumes myself, as that is the official edition in my country.
>>
>>94128628
I'm not really sure how the volume numbering works. It looks like it starts over in numbering. According to the comics site I read on, the series technically has 3 starts to it. But yeah they all should be collected aside from the most recent stories.

So let's be real for a moment here.

What are the odds this series DOESN'T end with Usagi dying. Maybe contently maybe in battle.
>>
>>94132812
If we get a proper ending, id say 50/50 chance.

Since its a family comic, maybe closer to 70/30 chance
>>
>>94132812
I could easily see an ending with him wandering off into the sunset. Him settling down seems unlikely though.
>>
>>94132917
Eventually everyone has to settle down.

I think he could eventually stop for tomoe if the circumstances were right.

Anyway, in Senso he pledged loyalty to the panda lord
>>
>>94132960
Him settling down doesn't have to be onscreen though. It could be like Calvin and Hobbbes where though the story has ended, our hero's adventures have not.

>>
>>94132917
>>94132812
>>94133054
You want a happy ending?

Usagi and his friends get together to do something major, Dragon Bellow Conspiracy style (perhaps even revealing Hikiji's newest sinister plot to the Shogun, which would give Usagi his vengeance, free Tomoe from the need of a political marriage, since the Hikiji's threat to Noriyuki would be over, and allow Chizu to take back her clan). After all is said and done, Usagi gives thanks and farewells to his friends and readies to travel to his teacher's place, since before the whole adventure started he got a message to come and meet him as fast as possible. Just before he leave,s one of the girls, depending how story goes either Tomoe or Chizu (or both - their catfight is optional), catches up to him and promises to await his return. Lots of blushing and hand holding ensues. When Usagi reaches his destination, he learns that his master got struck by illness and died. The rabbit ronin takes over as Jotaro's sensei, but it turns out that the old lion left one last gift to both of them: a letter revealing the "secret" of Jotaro's ancestry. Usagi and Jotaro feel dumb, then laugh and finally openly recognize each other as father and son, then walk into sunset to have many more adventures.
>>
>>94133242
Nick does everything they can to destroy the show since late season 2.

Last three years were a mess when it comes to both airing new episodes (changing hours, long delays) and their quality.
>>
>>94132812
Usagi gets hired by Date Masamune to accompany a Japanese tour across the pacific and then to the papacy where he delivers his swords as a sign of peace to the pope himself. After having an adventure around there world, he returns to japan where he cant leave to visit the rest of the world.
>>
>>94134322
2 more parts actually.

And I thought Usagi's voice was fine. I prefer it to the 03 Usagi
>>
>>94133609

I dunno. I sort of feels that kind of leaves Jotaro's adoptive father out in the cold. The guy raised the kid and was pretty much the perfect dad which is especially kind of a big deal given the era. Sure pretty much everyone knows and I don't think it should lead to drama but understating adoptive dads is kind of shitty.
>>
I'm not used to Usagi having a deep voice. Did they choose this one because they couldn't make his 3D render more expressive past grimace?
>>
>>94135074
Its possible.

I think I like this usagi voice wise
>>
>>94132812
>implying Stan won't die before then
>>
>>94135479
The saddest part is Stan made Senso (where most of the main cast dies) after losing his wife and grandchild, because not only was he in a dark mood, but he also realized his own mortality. If he dies before Usagi gets a proper conclusion, we have Senso to somewhat half canonically wrap it up and nicely tie everything to Space Usagi.

I wish the man all best, but he realistically has 50, maybe 75 issues left in him.

>>94135865

Sorry friends, wrong. Start here:

https://www.amazon.com/Usagi-Yojimbo-Special/dp/1606998870/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1500942853&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=usagi+yojimbo+the+special+edition

This collection contains the entire pre Dark Horse stuff. I forget the company. Epic? First? Some smaller press? Whatever. It's all here. Then the Dark Horse Saga's collect the rest, with The unnumbered Saga, I think Legacy, collecting the graphic novels and what if stuff. There's at least one more numbered Saga likely to come out. And that's it.

I've heard that the Saga's don't include some short stories and back ups. So I dunno, maybe Dark Horse has plans for that stuff one day. No offense to Sakai, but he is in his 70's or such. He uh... probably can't go at this much longer. They may be holding off on that material to flesh out whatever unfinished Saga they're left with. Or I'm totally wrong about uncollected material.
>>
>>94130364

Senso, the other one, and Space Usagi are all kind of meant to be a The End to Usagi. Sakai knows he's never going to actually stop it, so he squeezed out some material that's as close to the end as he'll ever actually do. And now he's back to churning out issues as he pleases.
>>
>>94128114

>Simply by virtue of the fact that there were so many ways they could have fucked it up and avoided it, it was a terrific episode.

Stan is very careful to keep creative control of Usagi whenever he's used in other media. This is why we'll most likely never see Usagi in an animated series of his own, but it's also why Usagi is remarkably consistent (and fucking awesome) whenever he appears.

The story goes that this appearance took years because he was so fearful of any creative rights ending up with Viacom that he was waiting for some contracts he was very happy with. Every other Usagi/TMNT appearance before this is from back when Eastman and Laird had the rights themselves. After the sale, he's still friends with them and willing to go in on the occasional goof like this, but he's got the big corporate body he's (probably rightfully.) paranoid about.

>>94137763

Oh, the Art of Usagi Yojimbo? According to Wiki it has a few stories in it not elsewhere. Wiki also claims it has book four, not book two.

Is that book worth picking up for completionist sake? I'm just grabbing the Special Edition and I'm trying to sort out what extra stuff I need or may want after the Saga's.
>>
>>94137831
I really love having it, but you don't get too much extra. I'd focus on getting the Saga volumes, and the books with the start of the story. The Legends and Yokai are good to have as well. I have Space Usagi and the War of the Worlds story separate, but I might pick up Legends anyway, because Space Usagi is falling apart.
I'd get the artbook last, after getting everything else.

The fact that Sasuke didn't finish him off before that point makes me think Jei is impossible to get rid off.

This is Stan trying to keep his spirits up after losing his wife, right? I doubt he cares about copyright

At least got remarried two years ago. To a woman who could be his daughter, no less. And Sergio Aragones was his best man. This whole multicrossover with TMNT may be the best sign he is doing well again.

Cool. After I was finally talked into buying Usagi and it proved one of the best decisions in my comic reading life I try to share the love as much as I can.

This series deserves at least 10 times more praise and exposure than it gets.

I think the thread is dead right now. We can talk next episode

Tomorrow has the IDW crossover

I had to wait for months to get a new Usagi comic. I really hope it was worth it.

But I really need to buy it since it being part IDW makes the story unlikely to appear in the Saga tomes or trades.

That's not Dream, that's Spuckler Boach.

>I bet your Space Usagi is not in the best shape anymore
You would be wrong there. I keep my tomes tidy, anon. However, I believe I might go ahead with buying it and donate Space Usagi to the local library.

Knowing IDW, they'll probably give it a special hardcover edition prior to the paperback. They've done it with the Batman/TMNT, Spirit/Rocketeer, and LOSH/Star Trek crossovers.

Have you seen the prices of that thing online?

But whatever, just make sure the library puts giant neon arrows pointing at the book, next to signs saying "good comic here".

Isn't this a one-shot?

I'm sorry, I don't read the comics. I liked this episode a lot.

I don't apologize for liking the episode.

It was a good episode, you shouldn't have to apologize. But if you did like it you may want to check out the books
