Snyder has his own editor, David Brenner, and his own cinematographer, Larry Fong.

All Whedon is doing is DIRECTING the reshoots. Not re-editing the movie, not changing the cameras, not doing script rewrites. He's standing behind a camera and directing the crew.

there's little sense of visual artistry in Marvel's output thus far, particularly Whedon's stuff. The guy got his start in TV, and it shows; he's much more interested in snappy dialogue than cinematic visuals.

Marvel is getting beyond Whedon a bit more now, though, thankfully; the Thor: Ragnarok trailer actually had some solid visual composition and identity.

It's a standard practice when shooting film footage to go for a darker image than you intend. When you're color-grading the footage later, you bring out that underlying color without sacrificing raw image quality.

i swear, you faggots are the only ones who ever complain about color grading. i have literally never heard of anyone EVER complaining about a blue filter or a dark filter, except for you fags, and i find it easier to believe that the whole lot of you are shitposting. i've got eyes. from what's been posted so far, the snyder screens just plain look better and convey more emotion and tone.

snyder's films are absolutely gorgeous. they often feel ridiculous because the acting doesn't match the writing doesn't match the plot, but his visuals are fantastic and tremendous.


snyder's weakness has to do with wrangling appropriate performances out of his actors, and i guess having enough clout to keep the producers from cutting his well intentioned films into complete garbage. his visual sense has always been superb, and his movies look better than reality, which as cinema they absolutely should.

whedon's strength comes from writing and wrangling actors. his visual sense is nowhere near as strong as snyder's, even in his best works.

if the film has already been shot, it might already be too late for whedon to save it unless he can keep the producers from trimming essential material that keeps characters compelling and sensible.

for the record, the snyder shots look 1000000x better because they try to convey a sense of tone.

in hindsight, i may have completely downplayed whedon's visual sense; his stuff tends to be gorgeous, even if it's not as spectacular as snyder's contributions. his sense of tone is far better than snyder's, and his action sense isn't bad either. he was totally right about aou, for instance. the sequences that the producers insisted upon that he disagreed with are totally jarring and cheapen the film. i still feel like a compromise would have been better, as opposed to giving the producers exactly what they asked for, but eh...

when it comes to setting up the scene and shooting big moments, snyder is vastly superior.

Trailers aren't edited/colored by the directors. Most often than not, directors have no say in how the trailer will look as its the studios decision to what they perceive to be the best look for marketing.

I don't mind the idea of a darker justice league film but the excessively dark films should be in the minority. Justice league will be setting the tone.
