There's a few brief moments in Valerian & the City of Thousand Planets where it almost cleverly becomes a refutation of the cosmic scale violence seen in Star Wars and Star Trek.

But it's like 30 seconds. Otherwise the movie is dumb as shit. Anyway, TLJ looks great by comparison.

The movie is constantly throwing snippets of really great aliens, and then focusing on the more conventional ones.

The pale beach aliens are the origin of the story's minimal plot.

There's a subplot with a shapeshifter alien played by Rihanna where they infiltrate the lair of some space orcs.

If a solid writer had been able to tame Luc Besson they really could have made something of it. Instead the whole film spins its wheels with distractions because there's almost no story.

No you don't understand, LSG showed off during celebration for behinds the scenes stuff in Rogue One that the space batte was a huge carefully choreographed scene like 30 minutes long that played out "automatically" in real time and that the exterior parts we see of it are just the "camera" pointing in one direction. Forgot to add that one of the aspects of this would be Kylo beginning to think of Rey as a friend and them legitimately laughing at and enjoying banter between each other over the film. Kylo realizes that there nothing he wants more than to join Rey and put all this conflict behind him. Then he realizes that what truly turns you to the dark side is the destruction of what you care for the most, for example when Anakin murders Padme and loses all hope. He realizes that this is what made Darth Vader into the man he was so at the end of the movie he destroys the one thing he cares about the most, Rey.

Depends on what your criticism is. If it amounts to 'the shiledgate was up because it was' then yes, you're going to be shit on. But I think there are very valid criticisms. Rose is a technician for Cobalt Squadron from the looks of it, and that group has the bombers seen in the TLJ trailer. Pablo is once again writing the visual dictionary for TLJ, as I'm sure most of us expected. Chewie is getting a solo child adventure book with the porgs.

I honestly didn't like Rogue One very much at all, but I've rarely, if ever, seen someone make valid criticisms of it around these parts, and certainly not on fucking youtube.

Poorly thought out is more like it, like how every capital ship was the same four rooms on the inside, bad move. Getting out inside an enemy ship to sabotage it solo being perfectly valid and even easy, again bad move. I'd complain about how nearly every fighter/bomber was a copy-paste but that was beyond a doubt purely a matter of balance.
