I mean, I know Batman is supposed to be serious, but he's also supposed to be cool. The Batman from most of the better-written comics, from the animated series, from the Burton and Nolan movies, still has some personality to him.
The Batman in the Arkham series, though:
>The world's greatest assassin vs. Batman. Who will win?
>Not him.
He just comes across as cardboard, spouting generic hero lines like "I won't let you win, Joker." Batman is supposed to make you go, "Woah, cool, what a badass," not sound like your high school principal.
The games are fun, but Batman himself is so booring in them.
It's mostly the scripting, but even the acting leaves something to be desired. Conroy is the best Batman, but he doesn't bring his A-game to these games. Compare this to some old BTAS episodes, or even JLU. The grim, earthy rasp is gone from the voice. All that remains is the stern authority-figure part.
Meanwhile, Hamill alters his Joker voice just slightly to match the aesthetic of the game, but still sounds as Jokery as ever. This guy always hits it home.
It's hard to root for Batman in these games. He never has any good lines, even his design makes him look constipated.
