PUNISHER STORYTIME
All this year I'll be storytiming Punisher comics. Most of the focus will be on the pre-Ennis era, with the occasional Ennis era story and possibly some post-Ennis era material at some point. Expect at least 1 storytime per week.
Over the course of this year I've been able to go through the Mike Baron era of the character (basically the late 80s through approximately the end of 1991), covering pretty much all of his run (excluding an Annual or two). I also recently posted Chuck Dixon's first story on the character (the graphic novel "Kingdom Gone") and have posted his fill-in issues during the Baron run, including the issue he did right after the Baron run ended and immediately before the Abnett and Lanning run began.
What's that? You didn't know the famous DnA writing team even HAD a run on The Punisher? Well they did! In fact, they wrote more issues than famous Punisher scribes like Carl Potts or (the REAL definitive Punisher writer) Steven Grant. On top of a dozen issue long run proper on The Punisher, they also wrote a multi-issue arc on The Punisher War Zone, a couple more multi-issue arcs on the main series, a miniseries, an Annual, and... I can't remember what else for sure. In total there were close to 30 issues IIRC, making them one of the top 5 most prolific writers in The Punisher's entire 4 decade plus history.
Today we're going to read their very first Punisher story ever: Eurohit, which kicked off their initial run on the series. It features The Punisher allying himself with some kind of... odd acquaintances. The cast in general is a bit more colorful than your typical Punisher comic, but all in all it's a reasonably entertaining story, and much better than either of the other 2 previous extra-long Punisher tales up to this point (Jigsaw Puzle and The Final Days of The Punisher).
So grab a drink and/or some snacks, and strap in for some stylized covers and yuro-shenanigans and let's read this bitch.

I really feels like Batroc and Tarantula's roles should have been swapped in this story. Batroc has a code and a sense of honor,so him allying with Frank wouldn't have been too weird, unlike Tarantula, who was always just a generic, money-hungry mercenary-assassin.

It's probably the worst Punisher run ever. He's not even the main character in his own book (it's the writer's NOTself-insert instead) and they have him doing "quirky" shit like killing people with a bear trap on a chain. They're also about to give him an Iron Man suit. Seriously.

You didn't read the issue though, dude. It was fucking ridiculous and they made it into almost like a Deadpool (or Family Guy I guess) "gross/violent comedy" type thing. It was just cringey garbage by a cringey garbage writer who's in the habit of doing shit like that.

Frank returns to one of his hideouts in New York, and notices that one of his guns is missing, so he's running all over town trying to get it back.In the end, it's not because of any kind of weird sentimental attachment or even being all that pissed that he was robbed, it's just that it's booby-trapped and will explode if someone tries to fire it without the second, hidden safety being off.

>>94021652
Just SHOOT him, Frank. Don't mince words.
Is anyone else getting the feel from this, that the Punisher has been jobbing pretty hard?
>>94044571
It's more because it's KINGPIN so obviously Marvel wouldn't let them kill him off, but the writers clearly didn't want to include him in the story without giving the readers a face-to-face confrontation between the two, so that's the compromise they came up with: He hesitates, gets distracted, shit happens, Kingpin escapes.
>>94018171
I'm not a gun aficionado, but how did those peashooters knock down Frank? He has enough kevlar on him to stop normal handguns, and was shot at point blank range by small calibre arms and barely finched.
Or do those guns pack some kind of special type of firepower, in excess of normal handguns, on account of the fact that the entire mechanism just seems to house one single bullet? Like, some kind of shotgun type spray, or a larger calibre?
>>94048351
No idea. Maybe some /k/ posters can answer that.
>>94020553
>>94020609
fucking hell, Batroc is hilarious.
>>94027349
I feel like she said that because she's trying to copy Ennis' MAX version where that's how he's depicted
however what she missed out is that when we're not following Frank we're following the criminals he's targeting, almost in a way that switches the usual antagonist and protagonist roles since they're reacting to Frank, so we learn more about the criminals and the reader will have a reaction when he kills them in the end, usually widely varying reactions
rather than just some generic cops we don't give a fuck about that don't drive the story at all
