On top of being generally extremely powerful, he's feared by all Kryptonians, has a body count in the trillions, appears constantly, is one of the few beings Superman doesn't object to killing as a first resort (usually), has never been cast in a "enemy of my enemy" situation like Luthor constantly has been, and is often the main villain of crossover events ranging from comic arcs (Crisis on Infinite Earths, Our Worlds At War, New Krypton, Convergence, etc.) to adaptations (Injustice 2 game, season 2 of JLU, etc.). He was the main villain of the comic that sent-off pre-Crisis Superman as well.
