I guess if there really was a difference then homo magi basically make it a superpower where they can just say something or twirl a finger and it always happens. While ordinary people need to learn complicated incantations, keep a shitload of artifacts and herbs, salts, gems, and other new age-ey shit on them and sometimes make a big ritual out of it.

Well the thing is most really powerful magic require external powersources. Basically it always meant you don't have total control over it. Batman HATE giving up control.

That actually makes a lot more sense. Though magic seems to work out nearly 100% of the time for full time magic using league members, so Batman would realistically look at those odds and choose to be pragmatic and learn magic regardless of the loss of control.
