I know I'm the only one in this group who cares, but I'm gonna poor one out for Archie Sonic anyway. Fuck it, I liked em.

It was honestly pretty damn bland before the LoSH hijack.

Well, I found his biggest problem on JLU (the only team book of his I've read) was that there were too many characters to juggle, Outsiders isn't as huge so maybe it'll be better.

I've heard his X-Men is bad but AFAIK nothing good has come out of that entire line in a long time either way.

What'd you all think of the Berger Books announcement? I'm not into every book but I'll check out 2/4.

I like that they're all set out as 4 or 5 issue miniseries. It feels, well, realistic? What you're getting is upfront and you hope the creatives will work to that, although I figure it'll be slanted way more for the trade than the single issue. Emma Beeby is the first woman to write Judge Dredd, which is a way bigger deal for me personally than Doctor Who.
>>
>>93997790

Sadly can't stick around to read this tonight so I'll just give you a friendly bump and be on my way.

>>93997857

>>
>>93997797
Reading it just on the principle of being Berger. I don't really know of any of Anthony Bourdain's creative works, if he has any. I wonder what lead to THAT partnership.

I'm also one of those people who didn't disown Nocenti after Catwoman.

>>93997829

>>

>No, no. He's Michael Cray now. "Deathblow" didn't play well with the marketing team.

Is that confirmed?
Because the new series has a countdown numbering like The Wild Storm for 12 issues.

Which makes me hope, futile, that it's just prologue for some real Deathblow shit.

Yeah. Today's issue was mostly an exposition dump, just to explain what the actual plot is.

Heh, not to gossip, but someone in the story time thread didn't realize at first that Jacob Marlowe is a dwarf. Not sure how one misses that.

Also, am I the only one bothered by how... intense Pris is in this book?
>>
>>93997892
Berger is out of touch. She thinks it's still 1994 and everyone wants to read about "goth slackers".
>>
>>93997838
One of the strips in the Fleetway stuff was Amy and her canary girlfriend going on weird interdimensional adventures, sometimes with a cyborg squirrel tagging along. That was my favourite. As I understand it Amy in the Archie stuff is completely insufferable.

Two people missed that.
And I'm a third because I missed that too.

I think they want to step away from the EXTREME aspect a little bit, unlike Youngblood.

Ellis has been all about making this super srs bsns.

Also, I think having action heroes that just have an unassuming name is a thing now, like "John Wick" and "Jack Reacher" (I haven't seen either of those)

I think it speaks rather loudly of human nature that we find humor in the suffering of others. And yet, we also see constant suffering as an endearing trait to be fawned over. It's an odd pseudo contradiction that may or may not be cause for concern.

Looking at you, newer fans of Coco Bandicoot.

>guess looking anywhere beyond Generations just isn’t in the cards for now, although I assume Legacy will be mentioned from time to time. Internal reports I get coming from Marvel are extremely conflicted, but the general sense is that Legacy is a stop gap event for some OTHER rejigger that is more to the taste of some internal faction. As everyone keeps saying, it doesn’t really make any sense, but there you go.

There's no Generations or Legacy panel.

Fuck it, this has been bothering the shit out of me ever since it started, and I hope I can count on you lot to have a clear headed conversation about this shit.

So one of the most common complaints about this new paradigm for Carol Danvers is that she often "looks like a man", basically that she's not hyper-feminine anymore.

My question is this; Why does anyone care? No really, what's the problem? Look, sorry if this makes me sound like an ass, but any soldier who comes out looking like a runway model has thoroughly fucked up.
If the concern is aesthetics, and if aesthetics do indeed matter in a visual medium, then the priority should be to have her look the part of a capable soldier, such that the audience is convinced that she can do the things she does, yes? Well, unfortunately, our society tends to equate physical ability with masculinity, and while that sucks, ain't no escaping it for the moment.

So again, why do people bitch about Carol looking butch?

>>
>>93999761
a. they can't fap to her anymore

>>
>>93999821
that's a cute design

>>
>>93999761
I think it largely is just the fapbait aspect, but there's something to be said for women not having to emulate men to appear powerful. Like there's nothing shameful about femininity and I think they COULD still draw her with less harsh traits and have her taken seriously.

But also I think that it's more of an artist to artist concern than something Marvel is actively telling people to do (like it's not as if Rocafort has drawn her manly even though she has short hair). Kind of the reverse of the argument where people complain that costumes are "too sexy" when it's really just the artist's fault for drawing it like a thong with cameltoe.

idk I'm done blogging now
>>
>>93999761
It looks like shit and this is a visual medium. You want her to be less feminine? Fine. Make it look good or fuck off.

If you can't do that, I'll keep my money, and so will the virtue signalling parasites you're making a clumsy attempt at catering to.
>>
>>93999532

>>
>>93999925
It kinda bugs me that people write off butch Carol as "well she was in the military!" as though women who used to be in the military are never feminine

I knew a woman Marine who loved girly stuff and her favorite color was pink, it's not like you have to hand over your lady card when you join the military

If Aquaman does well I imagine we'll at least get Hal and Batman's since they're probably popular enough. They aren't cute grills nor do they minus Aquaman have sexy designs so not sure who those are for.
>>
>>94000168
Lucia could probably sex the designs up a little if he tweaked them, I think Luppacchino designed Hal & Batman
>>
>>94000230
True, I think that's why Starfire's design changed.
Lupa did the original variant so he changed it to the firefighter thing.
>>
>>94000026
Does this friend have noticeable muscle tone and is capable of disabling opponents with physical force? Well, she can be as girly as she wants, society at large is going to see her as a masculine bulldyke. Again, that sucks, it's fucking disgusting even, but that's life.

Perhaps instead of complaining about Carol's lack of traditional feminine traits, maybe we could use this as a way to explore why we react negatively to a woman displaying what we perceive to be exclusively masculine tra-HAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh shit, I almost finished that sentence too. Comic book fans being introspective... As if that's ever gonna happen!
>>
>>94000066
It's /co/ of course so it's not going to be that deep. But I guess also most characters have a "look" that you can't stray too much from in main continuity without people bitching. People cry just as much about Harley designs too and they went the other way with sex appeal there.

>>94000026
>>94000092
I mean in the end the answer is "have enough female* characters so that no single one has to bear the brunt of the weight of expectations/stereotypes" but yeah.

*can apply to any "othered" group

I don't remember anyone calling Carol a bulldyke before artists started drawing her with shorter hair and less skin showing
>>
>>94000324
I think tomboy characters who have masculine traits to begin with are not really reacted negatively to in the same way, so it's not that simple. The fact that it is a change is why people complain.
>>
>>94000352
Unfortunately that looks like Lupa too.
